OT- Are your children loud?!!

We have four DS's -- ages 4 to 13 -- that we love to death. They are ALWAYS loud but the only time their noise really bothers me is if I'm hungry or if they're really, really bickering with each other (which of course only happens about two hundred times per day).

What always amazes me is how loud the the TV's are when they are turned on for the first time of the day -- well, of course, they're loud because they were turned up and turned up and turned up the day before so they could be heard over all the noise the kids were generating.

Still, I wouldn't trade this beautiful noise in for anything. It always seems so wierdly quiet to me when I come home from work to get something during the schoolday and the house is silent because the kids are all away.

my sister who is 10? well...you don't wanna know. as soon as we mention anything to do with theme parks she screams at the top of her voice

My house gets very loud. At least people say it is....I have my 3 and most of the neighborhood kids. I really do not hear the noise though. I have learned to only tune in on crying, and emergency yells....and of course if someone yells "Mom".

That being said. We do have quiet time. My DD and her friends, if they are at the house after lunch, they have to watch a movie or take a nap. So usually a Disney movie is watched and I have 1 1/2 hours of quiet...

How do you tune it out??? It must be a gift that some moms have inherited! ;) I am glad that I got the gift, or I would be insane by now.

Well - you can see you are not alone! I think my oldest being autistic gave me a different perspective on how children express themselves! Lovely alternative to the opposite (IMHO) Mu=y kiddos do get pretty , well - spirited- (nice euphemism eh?)
I think it helps if you can find something they are REALLY interested in. Like Legos, or blocks, painting, coloring, etc. Play-Doh is an awesome quiet activity! Making your own is even better - you can make nice big batches, it is easy to work with AND your kids will love that they had a part in it! Wedgits are a great building type toy, endledd possibilities. 2 years and up - they can be very complicated or very simple designs! Don't worry - pretty soon all this little kid stuff will be done - then you will REALLY miss those loud boisterous voices!

My 7yr old daughter is so loud I had her hearing checked. No problem with the ears...only the big mouth. :Pinkbounc

I'm so relieved I'm not the only one who's done this! At the request of my mother-in-law (insert comment here), I actually had my oldest's hearing checked when she was 3. I got the same response "She's three."
Now my sweet middle child (just turned 5) is quiet as a mouse... UNTIL YOU ENTER A MOVIE THEATER! Then for some reason, she becomes Howard Cossell and can't stop giving everyone around her a play-by-play...

I've stopped trying to figure them out. :confused3

:rotfl2: My DD3 (also adopted but from China) has 3 settings: Whisper soft, Loud and LOUDER. And when she screams, grown men shake (ok, so it's just her father) and dogs hide (except for the Siberian Husky who joins her in a lovely howl). As a friend of mine said about her scream - "it's definately soprano". I'm hoping that it gets better, but I'm not placing any bets on whether it will be anytime soon.

My kids think my husband and I only say "Can you use your inside voices, please?" I don't know that we've said anything else to our children in the past three years. I'm thinking about having a button installed with a recording so I can save my own voice.

Yes - in fact when it is quiet here I can be sure there is trouble brewing!!

My 2 DDs are the same. DD (7) and DD (2 1/2) aren't just loud, it's fighting and bickering, and it drives me crazy! I can send 1 to one end of the house and 1 to the other and they will literally yell across the house"You started it!" Did not! Un hunh! Un ugh! So eventually, I let them back together so they can fight face to face because it's actually quiter that way.Add to this DH (who's the loudest of ALL) yelling, If ya'll don't stop right now..... So here's how I cope. I work part time in a call center and every few weeks I take a day off, go to Border's, order a hot chocolate extra whipped cream, and read and enjoy the peace and quiet. Sad to say, I'm usually ready to go home after about an hour or so because it's tooo quiet and I always have this sense of something's not right. Because loud is good because when they're quiet....they're up to something. :stir:

My kids are 6 and 10, both boys, and yes they are very loud. Sometimes it feels like we have a 3 ring circus or neon signs bliking over us saying look over here  .

my kiddo's are very loud too- I bought a MP3 player to tone them out- works like a charm
