OT: Anyone Stayed @ Loew's New Orleans Hotel?

When we were last in NOLA, they were still building this hotel. It looks very nice, but the location is questionable for me. We like vacations where we can park our vehicle when we arrive, & not get back in it until it's time to go home.

We've stayed on Poydras Street before. The hotel was very nice, but I didn't feel safe walking back & forth to the French Quarter at night. Many times we were the only people on the side streets. They weren't well lit either. FWIW, I do feel safe in the Qtr. at night. We avoid Bourbon St. though.

Back to the Loew's Hotel..... What's the walk like from there to the Qtr. at night? Are the streets well lit, & fairly well populated? It is closer to the Riverwalk than the hotel we stayed in on Poydras, which may make a difference. We'd like to plan another trip to NOLA. We're considering staying there next time, but only if the walk feels safe. TIA :)

PS: Sorry this is OT, but I thought with so many Loew's 1st members on here someone must have stayed there. :teeth:

I live about 2 hrs from NO...I would not trust walking anywhere at night there now. They have called in the natl. guard to help police tough neighborhoods. I dont know if these neighborhoods are close to the FQ or not, but if you go to nola.com you can see the newspapers articles about the amount of murders taking place there. Im sure the FQ and around the riverwalk are fine but I would not take the chance of walking too far at night.
Its hard to say "yeah come on over" we do need the tourism, but it has gotten worse in recent months. :sad2:

Thanks for the honest info. We're looking for a Thanksgiving getaway & this was one of the possibilities. I guess I'll keep looking, & put off a trip to New Orleans a little while longer. Hopefully, it won't take them too long to get the city back to it's former glory. It is a shame how some people have exploited the tragedy.

I just returned from a conference at the Riverside Hilton which is very near the new Loews hotel. We tried very hard to be in by dark....furthermore, a lot (I mean A LOT) of the shops were closed by 6pm. We were told it was because they wanted to be home by dark. That says a lot...even the Riverwalk mall - which the Hilton is connected to closed at 6pm. It was a long dark walk from the French Quarter.....we did it the first night and did not do it again.

That is so sad. :guilty: It's such a shame that a wonderful city like NOLA could fall apart so easily, & not bounce back more quickly. :sad2:
