We're considering putting in a pool - we have a HUGE backyard and have not enjoyed it since we moved in five years ago. I've always wanted pool and beautiful landscaping (been watching too much HGTV) to enjoy with our family.

So..after researching we think we've decided on a fiberglass pool.

Does anyone have one or words of wisdom?
:confused3

A pool is a great thing! I don't have a fiberglass but a regular in ground. They are pricy and very time consuming to take care of though.I decided when we put ours in to get a salt water pool instead of traditional chlorine and it was the best investment. The water is so clear and does not burn your eyes, plus it is cheaper than chlorine to run.

Dh only wants one if we get the salt water system! We've heard wonderful things about having that.

We want fiberglass so the doggies don't tear into a normal lining with their claws! We are true homebodies (except for our Disney trips!) and we would really enjoy having a retreat in the backyard. Plus...my kid will always be at OUR house with her friends instead of the other way around!!

We also have a pool but it is a regular in ground with a liner, and we love it. We are home bodies too so I under stand what you are saying, it helps to have something to do at home. I don't know anything about the fiberglass pools, but I can tell you that the upkeep of our pool has not been bad. I do it myself and actually enjoy it. Our pool is a 20 X 40 with a diving board in the deep end. It's a great size for a family of 5, plus friends.

If I were to put a new pool in, I would make sure that it had a diving board or a slide. It keeps the kids from getting board, and by the end of the summer, they do get board with it. Some folks think that pools are a bad idea, but we have really enjoyed ours. ;)

The only thing I will tell you is when we first put our pool in...suddenly everyone in the neighborhood was our friends, even people that never gave us the time of day before. Now I get along with everyone, but it was kind of obvious at the time who just wanted an invite.i even had one pushy person ask if they could use it when we weren't home ( absolutely not).I truly love my pool, I haven't gotten in that much this year but it is just the weather doesn't cooperate when i am ready. We staycation in our yard during the summer months.

hi there
I echo everyone's thoughts about loving their pool and the salt system is wonderful.
I'm not sure we you live...we live in Montreal (so our winters are COLD)...we were considering a fiberglass pool but we were warned against it because of potential cracks. When the ground freezes and unfreezes in spring, the risks of cracks in fiberglass is greater than with a vinyl pool...and if a crack occurs you might have to replace the whole pool. At least that's what we were told.
The flip side though is that a fiberglass pool maintains its water temperature much better than a regular inground so you don't pay as much in heating costs.
Hope that helps and enjoy your new pool!

We love having a pool and count us in as another salt water fan. We love ours!!! Everyone kept telling me what work it was going to be, but with the salt system - I check the water everyday and it's just about the same. Five minutes a day is not work when you think about all the fun time you get out of it! My kids (4 and 6) are FISH!

I don't know a lot about the fiberglass pools, but I do have a couple of good websites that really provided a great deal of information and they may be able to answer your questions. Let's hope these links work!

Good luck and enjoy your new pool! :thumbsup2

I had a fiberglass pool in the house before this one, and loved every second of it. It was so easy to float around with a little scrubbie thing and some biodegradable cleanser, wiping off the "bathtub ring" that formed from normal skin oils. We couldn't have one in this house because we live right beside a lake, so went with gunite. We are building another house and went with gunite for it, too, because fiberglass wouldn't fit where we needed to put it.

If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to know the costs of your pools. My dh and I were considering one in the next year or two. We would love to know the costs on the different types...but like I said...only if you are open to sharing! :)

Check with your insurance company about the slide/divingboard. Down here it is nearly impossible to get insurance with them.

We have the nature2 system and we really like it.
