OT -- Anybody watch Max and Ruby

i can't stand Max and Ruby. My very intelligent, fully functional 5 year old watches that show and then starts barking one word demands at me. So max gets limited time in our house!

Same here! I couldn't figure out where her snottiness was coming from, then one day... hello... lightbulb moment! DH despises this show more than any other. :rotfl:

My DD does the same thing and it drives me nuts!! :sad2: Limited time at our house too for sure!

DD4 was doing the same thing recently. She would say "thirsty" or "hungry". She has never talked like this before and we realized she was trying to be like Max. We told her she doesn't get anything without asking a question. That fixed that!

Okay, we get a lot of Noggin time while I am fixing the meal, cleaning the meal, making bathroom trips with one of the 4, *on the disboards*:rolleyes1 , etc,

and more than the lack of parents, I get irritated that:

Franklin is the only character with a name on the show

Miss Spider is the mommy but all the bugs are different species

there is no point to LazyTown

Dora gets way to dang excited about finding the tall mountain

Diego has parents that he must save on occasion??

And where did that deep-voiced Diego come from anyway

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast-where does she live when she isn't in Nowhereland??

Oh wait. . .I think I will quit watching. Let the kids watch, I am going to read a book!!!

I am so on board with not liking Max & Ruby!!!! DD4 likes it, when I let her watch it. Besides the parents not being there, I dislike the fact that Max bugs Ruby enough that in the end he gets what he wants. Ugh!

I know the Miss Spider one.....I remember an episode that they mention adoption...I think...but that is why they are all different...they are adopted.

I agree with the rest of your observations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao:

And why, oh why, does the Diego in the Dora episodes have an older sister named Daisy, but in his own show has a sister named Alicia????

What kind of animal is Wubbzy, and why do the creators of the show sing weird new-age songs at the end of every episode??

What do kids see in SpongeBob? I think it is one of the most annyoing pointless ******** cartoons on tv.

Why do all the preschool shows ask the audience to answer every question? I mean, I know kids learn by repetition, but having all the characters on Dora repeat everything 26 times every episode is a little much. Ditto with Blues Clues, PinkyDinkyDoo, and Little Einsteins.

But you're right. Nothing is more annoying than the parentless, nauseating one-word Max and his know-it-all sister.

We love Max and Ruby although my girls are getting a little old now. I have asked my girls about the no parent thing before, and they say "Mom who wants to watch a show about parents! Then it would be a grown up show not a kids show!"

My ds used to love this show too and thank god he has outgrown it:cool1:

He would go around the house using the one word sentences, too:headache:

Anyway, Rosemary Wells is the writer of that show and this what was found in her autobiography:

She states you never see max and ruby's parents because she wants children to try and solve their problems on their own.

OK I seem to be alone in liking the show, and seeing Max as being the good one but Ruby as being the annoying one.

No point to Lazytown???!!!!!! That show taught my son how to do a somersault! And that no one's lazy in Lazytown! Love that show! DS loves to have a moustache like Sportacus. :) It also taught him that he needs to eat fruits and veggies for energy. :goodvibes

The land that Maggie is in is her imagination...all the other things on the show are toys in her room.

And I can't speak against Blue's Clues, as Steve took my son over a speech "hump" that was just about to worry me. A year later I found out a second cousin of mine had a son at the same age my son had been, and that he was having the same slight speech issue. She and the ped were thinking of being worried soon, and I told her about BC...he got over the speech hump just like DS did. I have nothing bad to say about Blue's Clues; they have my loyalty. And trust me, we talk and talked alllll the time to our son, using proper words, but I think there was something about having a male talking, during the day, "to" DS that helped him in ways that I couldn't, and that hubby's evening and weekend chatter couldn't do either. Love BC.

Diego and Dora, however, need to stop yelling at the microphones.

I'm glad I am not the only one who spends time thinking about these shows. The thing that makes me wonder the most: What is Uniqua? The little pink thing on the Backyardigans, all the others are easy to identify, but I have had discussions with my adult friends about what Uniqua is. My husband thinks I am nuts. I'm glad there are people out there who understand!!!

I just always guessed she was a salamander.

Thanks for the responses. I agree with so many of your comments. I guess I am just trying to analyze the kids shows with an adult thinking pattern and it's not going to work.

I too, don't get LazyTown or uniqca.

Uniqua is unique one of a kind. ;) She is basically a made up thing. I was curious one day as to what the kids look like they have a few of their pics on IMDB.com

OK, most kids cartoons don't have parents...
max & ruby, Charlie & Lola, backyardigans, the kids on dragontales, Dora's parents let her go to outer space and sailing the ocean alone, darby's is running all over the Hundred Acre woods alone...its a shame! They should park their kids in front of the TV! :happytv:

Ahhh, you hit the nail on the head! I don't let my kids watch because I do not take well to demands. They begged to watch one episode that we had "on demand" with comcast. After they watched, my two year old (at the time) started yelling "markers, markers, markers". Max just whines until he gets his way and never gets in trouble. I just cannot deal with it at all.

My husband and I always joke that we are going to turn them into bunny social services.
I have never even heard metion of a mom, just the grandmother and then sometimes the bunny scout leader comes over.
Drives me nuts too

Someone help me figure this one out...

Why is Little Bear running around naked when his father wears a 3 piece suit every day?

Thank goodness my son is over Max and Ruby. He was barking out the one word demands for a while too...so we said goodbye to that one.

We also don't watch WonderPets anymore since he was imitating the way the duck (or chick?) spoke.

His new favorite show is Word World on PBS. He's actually learned to spell quite a few words from watching it...it's one of the better ones out there.

My son still loves that show. there explanation when asked where the parents are.... They are just busy or maybe on the laptop! Then DD says well Ruby knows how to be the mom anyway she takes him all over town!

We banned Wonderpets because of my DD imitating that lisp from the chick too.

And yeah Miss Spider adopted all those other bugs which is why they are all different.

Ruby & Max is my 2yr old's favorite show. Drive me nuts but he loves it for some reason. Thankfully no one word demands from him. We even did chocolate chickens one year for Easter instead of bunnies and the little ones were thrilled.

I do think Blue's Clues was better with the first guy..Steve?..my kids have learned a lot from that show and it's not really on the annoying radar. ;)

I like Max and Ruby, though it is not a show we watch every day. I think it is a very gentler and slower paced show than so many others, and I like that about it.

Yes, I think you can make yourself crazy thinking about all of the less than reality aspects of cartoons, but they are after all cartoons - fantasy. Kinda funny to have to say that on a Disney board....Disney where a mouse is king ;)

We have 4 kids (13, 12, 7, and 3) and I have to say one cartoon all of my kids have liked and so do I is Arthur...something about that aardvark we all have enjoyed over the years.

You know you have a problem with the laptop addiction when...

That's me, too!

I know this is way off topic and really not Disney related, but do any of you watch Max and Ruby on Noggin with your kids? I watch it with my dd2 almost everyday. Do they have parents? I have never seen any adult other than the grandmother so who do they live with? Thanks much (this is driving me crazy).

I've heard it suggested (on this board, I think) that Max & Ruby's parents ran away because Ruby was so bossy & irritating.
