Every year my DH employer holds an Annual Employee's Awards Banquet. It's a pretty big-to-do in that it's usually held at a nice convention type hotel. It's mandatory even for the spouses. You're to arrive Saturday around noon and leave Sunday around noon. The plus being that eveything is paid for - airfare (if it's far away), the room, the meals, open bar ... Generally though, it's pretty boring.

DH comes home on Thursday and says guess where it's held this year and I can tell he's pretty excited about it. So I guessed Florida and I was right! I'm thinking this can't be real I mean no way is it held in a nice warm state and near Disney!

I was pretty close to being right. It's in Jacksonville. And once you check in you are not allowed to leave. :(

So in April we'll (no children allowed) be spending an all expenses paid weekend in Florida - stuck in a hotel. :( :( :(

Does anybody want to join my pity party?

oh Belle, that's awful! How can they tell you you can't leave?
sounds like that line from the "Hotel California" You can check in any time you like, but, you can never leave ugh!bad enough you have to sit in on a boring meeting but, to tell you that you have to stay there the entire time is a little off the wall!!!Do you absolutely have to go?sorry to hear about your dilemma.

Is there any way to extend your trip a day or two? I guess the plus side of the weekend is that you are in florida with your husband..... Right now I would give about anything to have a weekend with just my DH!!!

and at this point, I'd give anything to have a weekend in Florida
for the weather compared to here in the Northeast it's a tropical island lol.
Maryann :)

You have a trip to disney coming up in 2010,, You'll have time then to play at Disney;) ;) I'm so mean::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

LOL Laurie!:p

Belle, that just stinks...I have to ask the same as letfuller though, can you extend your trip a day or more? Then you would have some time to do what you wanted...

How weird that once you check in you can't leave:confused: Seems extreme to me, but hey, what do I know? :hyper:

Hugs Belle!

Oh Belle, I'm sooooo sorry! :worried: I'd come & sneak you out to hang out with me if I could. Here's a genie to grant you one wish :genie: & a big group hug too :grouphug: .

Why y ou can't leave, so they say, is because you are on their time. They are footing the entire bill. If something should happen to you ... accident, injury or whatever, then supposedly they would be held liable.

When you first get there you check in with your immediate supervisor, get your room, get your things to your room, go back down for meetings, spouses get dismissed while the employees have another meeting, then you go down for the awards presentation, dinner, dancing (DH wouldn't dance even if I begged, party pooper) and then a midnight buffet, sleep and breakfast, check-out by noon. And be sure to wear your name tag all weekend.

Somehow I always manage to get sick the days before the banquet ;) Funny how that works out. :teeth:
