DH and I will be in Buffalo next month for a quick trip. We were thinking of taking a stop at the Anchor Restaurant & Bar, since that is the home of the Buffalo wings. Has anyone been here recently? Do they have a kids menu if we went for dinner? They don't list a menu on their website. Are there any other good restuarants that anyone can recommend while we're in town? Also planning a stop over in Niagara Falls as well.

Thanks!

It's a pub/bar - there's burgers, fries, chicken fingers, nachos, etc. on the regular menu so not sure what other options your lil one would need? :confused3 If you've got an old license plate, bring it along and let them add it to their collection - it's the wall decor there :rotfl:

Buffalo is home of pub grub: wings - every and pizza joint in town has their own and everyone has their faves. Duffs is also popular; Charlie the Butcher's Beef on a Weck; grilled hot dogs from Ted's; Anderson's for custard. Lots of good pizza joints. Grovers for the best burgers. If you're looking for sit down, head to Hertel Street, wander around and check out the menus and choose a place. Not sure where you're from but there's all the usual better franchises too: Melting Pot, Cheesecake Factory.

For breakfast: Betty's on Virginia St, Restaurant 1207 on Hertel, Original Pancake House for their dutch baby or apple cinnamon pancake. Can you tell breakie is my fave meal of the day? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Your post is pretty vague, check out the local listings of best of places for things that match your budget/food preferences. :goodvibes

cheers,
:flower3:

Anchor Bar is our favorite pizza and wing joint when we make the yearly trip to Buffalo to see the Sabres play. The medium wings are fantastic and just enough heat that you need to eat more but not so hot that you cant taste the chicken. The pizza, oh my mouth is watering:worship:. I live in Cleveland and they cant make a decent pizza and wings to save thier lives. If you like pasta check out Como's, uber yummy. If you google them you can see the menu. Have fun and suck down some wings for me when you go:woohoo:

I also enjoy Duff's wings, but I got to second the vote for Anderson's!!! Got to love their frozen custard, it's amazing.

I personally don't like the Anchor Bar. It's overpriced and the wings are the same wings you can get anywhere around here. We like Zebbs, Duff's, Andersons, Teds, and Pizza Plant.

I haven't been to the Anchor bar in a while, but I liked it. It is an experience. I thought they had a kids menu, but I could be remembering wrong.

I also had the Beef on Weck the last time we drove through and that was really good. We went to Schwabl's. It's a very interesting place, basically an old house. (I am craving roast beef now)

The Anchor Bar might be the original, but not the best in Buffalo. The Pub, Mammoser's, have some of the best, La nova's are better. There are a lot of local Faves, It seems to most that live here Anchor Bar is not on the A list! :)

ITA :thumbsup2 I take visitors there and understand them wanting to experience it ;) :upsidedow

Thx for the reminder, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in southtowns :goodvibes

If you're keeping a list...I'll add Alehouse, Pizza Works, Bocce, Elmos, Buffalo Bills :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Went there for lunch in late May (after a trip to Niagra Falls) and LOVED the restaurant and the chicken wings. They do have a kids menu...my ds ordered a grilled cheese sandwich from it.

I'm with those that say that while the Anchor Bar created them, other locations perfected them.

My favorite wings are Duff's. If you have a GPS, ask it to locate the intersection of Millersport and Sheridan Dr.

For other restaurants, my very favorite is Tempo. But it's expensive. REALLY expensive. But trust me when I say, so VERY worth it!!!

Some of my other favorites:

Byblo's - REALLY good Lebanese food
270 Campbell Blvd.
Amherst, NY
(Near University at Buffalo)

Al-E-Oops - DELICIOUS BBQ
5389 Genessee St.
Lancaster, NY

Friar's Table - prime rib
301 Cleveland Dr.
Cheektowaga, NY
They're having a special...I think it's an entree, appetizer, dessert and glass of wine for $20 per person. Through August 31.

Old Man River - hot dogs/hamburgers/fresh cut fries
375 Niagara St.
Tonawanda, NY

Roycroft Inn - nice restaurant, contemporary cuisine - reminds me a LOT of Artist Point. It's more expensive than most places, but it's not unreasonable. Really nice!
40 S. Grove St.
East Aurora, NY

Zebb's - burgers and fresh cut fries - MUCH better than Old Man River - not that either one is bad, but given the choice, I'd prefer this one. This is a chain, but it's a local one. Locations are in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas.
2875 Niagara Falls Blvd.
Amherst, NY

Solé - delicious Caribbean inspired cuisine
5110 Main St.
Williamsville, NY
(in the Walker Center)

For more suggestions, you might want to check out this link:
http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/restaurant.guide/

It's a REALLY comprehensive list of Buffalo-area restaurants with reviews for each. And while the guy that runs the site does write some of his own reviews, most are from site readers. It's kind of like TripAdvisor for Buffalo area restaurants. :)

Have a great trip! Hopefully, you'll bring good weather with you! :)

Wow! Thanks to all for the suggestions. I love to try the local places, and they're just hard to find through the normal tourism sites for buffalo. I'm compiling a list for myself and DH to decide which places we'll be able to hit. I knew I could count all all my DIS friends for great advice!! I'll be sure to report back next month on how it all turned out!

Duffs is my favorite place for wings. I have lived in Buffalo all my life and must admit I have never been to the Anchor bar. :)

Bocce pizza is also great for wing, or LaNova.

If you are looking for something absolutely wonderful but kind of pricey I totally recommend either Tempo or The Left Bank.

One thing about Buffalo..we may be poor but we have FANTABULOUS food!!!

ahhh Bocce pizza...My roomate's is from Rochester but her mother grew up in Buffalo. Every time she visits she orders a half backed Bocce pizza to take home, under threat of being locked out if she returns without one...lol :rotfl:
