Is there a website that help with what is the "average" airfare to a location? How do I know the airfare I am quoted is a good deal or I should wait a bit longer and wait for it to go down?

I love the seat guru, it has helped alot. But is there one for price information?

THANKS : :hourglass (DS liked this icon)

The 2 I use are Travelocity and Expedia.com. But I also look on the carrier's page to make sure I am getting a good price. For our Ca to Fl repo cruise, I used expedia because I was able to get seats to Ca on Continental and fly home non-stop on Delta. The price was the same as travelocity but if I went with them, I would not be getting there at 9AM. There are all kind of travel addresses out there. pirate: princess: :wizard:

Try sidestep.com. There is a program that you can download that will check all travel search engines in one go.

Bestfares.com is the best research tool I've found for airfare research. It has advantages over Travelocity and Expedia because it searches low-fare airlines like Southwest who don't sell tickets through third-party sites. It also gives the best prices for surrounding airports. So, if you're flying to Orlando, it'll also check Tampa Bay airfares. Some airfares can be only purchased by Bestfares members, but most can be purchased directly from the airline listed.

Just enter the departure city and destination city.

There are lots of sites that search every site. I forgot all there names. SideStep is good and I have used bestfares.com to. Try orbitz, usually they are pretty good.

THANKS! These links will help me to find a fare. But how do I know the history of a fare? For example, is $172 a good fare to San Jose CA or is $500 too much to Hawaii? Should I wait or purchase?

Thanks

airfares are tricky and the price can change several times a day. I will give you an example. STL-MCO was over three hundred dollars for six months.
I checked it every day. On Monday it dropped to $261. Thursday morning it dropped to $226. Luckily I bought then. By the afternoon it was back to $261, and now it is up to $291. Did I get the best deal? I don't know, but it is a price I can live with.

I like www.bookingbuddy.com. You plug in your dates/people/airports and then click on where all you want them to do the search...the airlines directly, expedia, orbitz, priceline, hotwire, quixo, sidestep, mobissimo, etc....You get the picture. Its kind of a one search hits all. Southwest is even on there. As far as the typical price, all you can do is watch the prices for a time period to know. And, book when you see a price you can live with! If it goes down, most airlines will give you a credit for future use. Also, although I use these websites to search for prices, I usually book directly with the airline. Easier for changes and usually cheaper too.
