OT - 800 count thread sheets, worth it?

DH wants to try some really nice sheets. I gave him the Kohl's catalog to look for bedspreads. He didn't like any of those but wants to try the sheets.

Any input would be great. I don't normally spend that kind of money on sheets.

The higher the count, the better. They're more "crisp", don't lose their shape, and they wash much better than lower thread count sheets.

I got some at JCPenney and we love them. We got DS19 some to use at college and he thinks he can't sleep on anything else now! Oh, did I mention they were on clearance???

try Overstock.com. I got some 600 thread count sheets for about 1/2 price. I would love to try 800 thread count, I can definitely tell the difference!

I went to an upscale flea market, and got 800 tc sheets for $15!!! I called my mother, to see if she wanted any - I ended up walking out with 8 sets! We love them!!

I also got my sheets from overstock, or maybe it was the other discount site online, and would recommend looking here. However, I noticed with the higher thread count I had trouble getting holes in them as they were thinner than my others. Anyone else notice this?

Personally, I found that Egyptian Cotton is much softer than Sateen or other types of cotton sheets. We have EC 350TC that feel so much better than 1000TC regular cotton.

Could you clarify this statement? I don't understand why you would want holes in sheets.

YES, totally worth it. I bought my set at I think it was 40% off at Kohl's and I got Kohl's cash. I have 800 TC and they are the softest and most comfortable sheets I've ever slept on. I don't know if I can go back to 300 TC!

They are definitely worth the expense. I received 1000TC sheets for a wedding present that we love. It was the Hotel brand. I tried to save money and buy 1000TC sheets at Walmart when they had a set on sale for Black Friday and they definitely aren't as soft and crisp as my Hotel ones. You can find the Hotel brand sheets at Ross sometimes.

I'm not a snob about most things but I have declared myself a "sheet snob"

It started by being a guest at a very wealthy friends house for a couple of days I knew the first night I was never going back to 300 count! Never thought tc made a difference ( and I have stayed at a lot of very nice hotels but still couldnt tell the difference). As soon as I got home I went on line and orderd 1000tc sheets even dh noticed. now I have a few sets and they are a couple of years old but still look and feel as great as they were new.

I second this! I love my Egyptian Cotton sheets. Even the boyfriend complimented the sheets. I got mine at Target.

Definitely worth the extra money up front. They last way longer than the lower thread count. You can either spend the money and have the set last and last or buy a couple of the cheaper sets over the life span of the higher thread count

We have 2 sets that are over 5 years old and they look and feel like new.
No pills or holes anywhere.

I agree with the others. A great investment and they last a long time. They get softer the more they are washed.
I get mine from BB&B with 20% coupon. I also got a set at TJMaxx.
I'm glad to read of the good experiences with Overstock.

Could you clarify this statement? I don't understand why you would want holes in sheets.

I'm pretty sure the poster was saying that with those types of sheets, they got holes in them not that they wanted them.

I also love Egyptian cotton sheets!!

That is a very good point and I agree. We have 800 TC EC and they have lasted forever. The more they are washed the softer they get.

I would buy them for 2 bucks a sheet at goodwill the set on my bed that I been using for at least 5 yrs came from a yard sale got sheets dust ruffle comforter pillow cases an pillow shams pluse a few decorator pillows all in the zippered bag for 2 bucks. The comfortor even had same print on both sides

I got a set of sheets more than 30 yrs ago for a weddin gift. I used them a few yrs got rid of them when got new bed that was bigger. I still see sheets just like them at goodwill almost everytime I go they still just as nice an bright as when new an much prettier than what is on market today I think my next sheets are gonna be a set of those.

Now if only I COULD FIND MICKEY SHEETS AN COMFORTER CHEAP!!!!!

I have had this problem too. We got a set for our wedding from Linen's and Things and within two years had holes in them. I have a set now, can't remember where I got them, they are "only" 400TC and they have lasted over 4 years. They are super soft and comfy.

I also love EC vs. regular cotton.
