So, the Oscar Noms are out. What does everyone think?

Personally I'm very glad that Colin Firth was nominated for his beutiful portrayal of a man grieving for his late partner in A Single Man.

Also very happy to see Up nominated for both best animated picture and best picture.

What does everyone else think?

My 2 cents:

Either Avatar or UP for Best Picture
Jeff Bridges for Best Actor
Christopher Plummer or Stanely Tucci for Best Supporting Actor
Helen Mirren for Best Actress
Maggie Gyllenhall for Best Supporting Actress

It will be fun to watch, can't wait!

Stanely Tucci for Best Supporting Actor.

As much as I loved UP, I can see Avatar taking best picture easily.

Exactly, which therefore means that Up is a shoo-in for Best Annie and thus Princess/Frog is more or less screwed.

At least there's a high chance it could get best song though.

I would love to see "A Single Man." Colin Firth is one of my favorite actors and the movie isn't being shown around here. I don't get it.

I would love to see UP take best picture, by far it was my favorite film of the year. I thought Avatar was cool and entertaining, but ultimately lacking in substance.

Also happy to see The Fantastic Mr. Fox got nominated for best animated picture, though I think it's not got a very good chance.

I couldn't believe Blindisde was nominated for Best Picture. I mean come on the film itself is a Lifetime Channel movie but Sandra Bullock was great in it.

It is Hurt Locker vs Avatar for Best Picture
Jeff Bridges for Actor...Crazy Heart is good film too...see it!
Mo'nique for sup actress but I would love to see Anna Kendrick win
Sandra Bullock for Best Actress
Christoph Waltz for sup actor
Up for Best Animated and probably Best Score

I hope there is some surprises. Those have been the ones winning and winning awards for all the award season.

I was listening to an NPR interview with Colin Firth. They played the portion of the film where he receives the phone call...

I honestly don't think I can watch that movie. I know I should, but I'd be a total mess and make an utter fool of myself. :guilty:

It's a visually stunning movie. And Colin Firth is PHENOMENAL!

There are a couple really uplifting and hopeful moments in it.

On the whole though . . . it's not what I'd call a "feel good movie"

But it's SOOOOO GOOOD!

Colin Firth: Had better win, fantastic performance but watch out for Jeff Bridges.

Avatar: Great technology but is it enough of a story to hold up? And I guess it bothers me that Cameron's so arrogant. (Liked Titanic but my heart went on without it.) Would love to see UP sneak in and think Hurt Locker may just have a chance, anyone else?

Waltz: Sup Actor Tucci should get it but the film was directed by someone on mushrooms in my opinion. (I know, when you read the book you have your own image in your head)

Meryl Streep: Best Actress (but secretly wouldn't be disappointed to see Bullock get it just because I succumbed to a "feel good" movie)

Mo'nique for supporting actress. Precious is a movie we should all be made to watch, hard as it is.

Just my opinionated two cents!
