Osbourne Family Lights Question?

Alright this is our first trip to WDW during the Christmas season.
I know that the OFL is a Christmas lights display at MGM.
My question is this: is it an attraction that you have to wait in line to see?
Or is it a walk thru area of MGM that's decorated with a lot of lights?

How is the OFL set up? Displayed?

It is a walk-through, no lines. It is absolutely beautiful, by far the best light display I've ever seen. Enjoy!

I've read that people start lining up to walk through before the lights are turned on at 6pm.

It is a walk thru, and the lights are set up on the buildings. Also they try to add a touch of winter with snow.. Well it is soap bubbles falling from the sky, but still neat none the less. My kids had more fun trying to catch the bubbles than looking at the lights. Also they play x-mas music.

Hope that helps.

Cheers :cool1:

What day are the Osbourne lights taken down after the holidays??
Thanks
Suzy V.

It's a walk through, but people do line up before the area opens. Depending on how busy the park is, you may wait until those in line have gone in, and head to that area about 30 minutes after it opens. (Unless it's really busy)

Last year I had a great experience - I forgot that Pop Warner had bought out MGM and that the park was closing early. I got to Osbourne lights just as the park was 'closing' to regular guests. But nobody had told the CM's at Crazy Andy's Xmas Tree lot, so about 20 of us had our own private little showing. The actors couldn't figure out why it was so empty. Finally a very angry CM came by and told the actors to quit it, the park was closed. We all wandered out very slowly, enjoying a private showing of the lights.

DW and I walked thru it last year after Fantasmic. It was a little crowded at the beginning of the line but cleared out once you got onto the backlog area. For those of us that suffer the Griswald syndrome, it was really cool. Let me know and I'll send a digital pic.

We lucked out and walked right in during Christmas week. It was BEAUTIFUL (so gorgeous I can't even find a good smiley for it).

By the way, it's the Osborne Lights, as in Jennings Osborne, a Little Rock business man.

I have to say that even though I have seen this light display many times at home and at Disney , it is still the best IMHO :goodvibes It brings a little home to me at my "second" home :cloud9: ! So even if there is a line it is worth the wait.

We loved Osborne Lights!! We went walking around the corner expecting to see "some" lights and displays but we were in total awe!
If anyone saw a family of 6 in early December standing at the end of the street with their mouths all hanging open for about 15 minutes...that was us! :teeth:
Our teenage sons didn't want to see it and opted out for ToT but after we told them they just had to see it--must be amazing if it renders teenagers speechless! We walked through at our own pace...no specific "route" you have to go, just walk and see what you want.
It's just so beautiful !

We are going in august, will the lights be up?

Nope, only for the Christmas holiday season. That's when Jennings Osborne used to decorate his house(s) in his neighborhood until the neighbors complained about all the traffic and he wasn't allowed to do it any more on that scale. So Disney heard about it and now he has his decorations at Disney Studios.

I just have to share with all of you that last year when we were at MGM, they were just starting to set up the lights. We asked a CM about it and he said they were for the Osborne lights at Christmas time. We walked away and didn't think anything of it.

However, later my wonderful, but sometimes clueless husband, said "Why do you think Disney would name a lights display after Ozzy Osbourne?" :rotfl2:

:scared1:

I tried arguing with him that that couldn't possibly be who they were named after, but since then we've all wondered.

So ... thanks for sharing how they got their name! :disrocks:

A Not to miss attraction! How beautiful they are. My kids walked through (and probably myself) with their mouths open! People line up before they open (i think 6pm) but after that it's a walk through, not to bad. If you get there early walk down to the stage where they have a big switch and "turn on" the lights you can see the opening ceremony. Last year they picked a little girl from the crowd and it was so cute, she was disabled and it was so special. Her mom was sobbing and I started to also! They also have the streetmosphere characters walking around too. ONe of them was at a tree lot and he was selling christmas trees, so of course when he asked if anyone needed a christmas tree i gently pushed my son forward! :rotfl2: I never laughed so hard in my life! He was asking my son all kinds of questions about where he lives and his family and adding on $$ every time he answered a question. My son was kind of shy but when he asked my son if anyone in the house drinks...he answered quickly and loudly "YES"! I thougt i was going to fall over. :rotfl2: The tree ended up "costing" my son 4,789.00! (he did get a discount because he had an anoying little sister!) Have fun and enjoy!

I can just hear Bing Crosby's rendition of "I'm going off the rails of a crazy train" as we stroll down Avenue of America.

That is so funny! I was thinking the same thing about OZZY!!! I had to click on the thread to find out what it was all about. I've never seen it but it sounds neat.
