Osborne Lights-Dates Posted

I also just sent an email stating my disappointment and anger regarding the date change. I even mentioned how my November trip won't be as magical.

We are going the 9th-20th. I have never been to Disney any other time than June. So this trip I planned based on the fact the O'Lights usually start the same time as MVMCP. I am just so glad I didn't tell the kids about the O'Lights. They won't even know what they are missing. I had a night planned at DHS, and I was going to surprise them with the Lights. At least I am the only one disappointed.

Do you think the castle lights will be on Nov. 28th or earlier? I'm thinking earlier because of the whole MVMCP thing, but was wondering what others thought.

I haven't gotten a reply, but I did ask Disney about that in my e-mail.
Bobbi:)

I hope this late start of Osbourne lights doesn't also mean that the resorts won't start to be decorated!

VERY GOOD question!
Even more than Osbourne Lights, my family and I are SOOOOO looking forward to the Resort decorations!:santa:

Hey, we're almost twins! We'll be there the 9th through the 22nd!

I'll be doing the same thing with my parents. I won't even mention the Osborne Lights to them. Still, it's disappointing that they won't be able to experience it on their first and (likely) only trip to WDW.

REALLY BAD NEWS! it's official.....now on the hollywood studios calendar page, at the bottom, the 11/13 date has been changed to 11/28.

We went to Disney at the end of November in 2005. Well, the night we were at MGM (DHS) we were eating dinner at Sci-Fi Drive In and then we were planning to go out and see Osbourne Family Lights. Well, at dinner my daughter starting running a very high temperature:sick: and we had to leave the park immediately and return to our resort and completely missed Osbourne Family Lights (we gave her motrin and it must have been a very short fever virus because she was better 24 hours later):( . The reason I am sharing this is, yes we missed the lights on our "christmas trip":santa: and I have yet to see them (hopefully no one will get sick on this trip and I finally will!), but we still had a really great time! I'm sorry that there are a lot of folks on this thread that will miss the lights, but your trip won't be ruined and there will still be plenty of magic to go around.pixiedust: Cheer up! Afterall you're going to Walt Disney World!:thumbsup2

Disney has posted the dates regarding
the Osborne Family Lights...

Nov. 28 2008 - Jan. 4, 2009

You're so right!

This being the first time my parents have ever been there, they will definitely not notice the lack of the Osborne Lights (or Christmas Around the World, or...). It's not like they'll be sitting there twiddling their thumbs for a few hours, and I'll be thinking, "Gee, if only the Osborne Lights were on, they wouldn't be bored!"

Thanks for the perspective. :goodvibes

Have they ever run them a couple days before the date as like a test run?

Yes, they have. My advice is to not count on seeing them early, but be pleasantly surprised if you do. :)

Yes, they will be. Unlike the Osborne Lights, there hasn't been any mixed signal from Disney about the Castle Dream Lights. They will be turned on by the first night of MVMCP, November 10. :thumbsup2

We also received email from disney today stating Nov 28-Jan 4. We planned around the last two years dates. I had asked why the change in the dates but the response email ignored that completely. Would you change weeks because of this and the Epcot Christmas events ? We are going Nov 5-12th so would have 3-4 days of food and wine and a little of the christmas events. We are two adults so MVMCP was not going to be purchased. Is it more for families with children?

We are arriving on Jan 4th....I guess we'll be walking over to MGM on our first night.;)

We have been for the holidays twice with the kids and we really wanted to go one more time before we cannot anymore because of school...We decided on Nov. 16-22 because we thought the Osborne Lights would be on...

Now we know different :furious:

So, I called today to change our dates...We are now going Dec. 12-19...It is a bit too close to Christmas for us BUT we will now get to experience all the wonderful holidays events...All the events are very family-friendly and very worth it for the kids to go...I really did not want to go the week before Christmas but we are really happy that we will get to do it all....Of course, now I have to change all my ADR....FUN, FUN, FUN...

Shame on Disney for changing the schedule and waiting so long to make that information public...This decision has had a negative impact on so many people...

We have also been to the F&W Festival...That is not for kids at all...Yes, they have a couple of kids areas set up...It was not worth it for us to go with our two small children....The holiday events are VERY worth it to our family, so the vacation dates have been changed.

This is why we decided to stick with our annual time frame of the first few weeks in December. Thought about going before Thanksgiving but I decided I didn't want to miss all the Christmas decorations.
I know it is dissapointing for people but hey you are on vacation, not at work, and at Disney. Be HAPPY!!!! :) It isn't the end of the world. (I am putting on my flame suit now)

It is just my husband and I and we love MVMCP. We go every year. The parade is AWESOME! Not to be missed. IMHO

I know - it's all about perspective! We're fortunate enough to even be able to go to Disney not once, but twice this year. But still - I thought I had picked the best time to go (Nov.8-16th): experience a little bit of F&W; first MVMCP and the Osbourne Lights. I guess two out of three aint bad!:thumbsup2

From now on, I'll know better......stick to visiting WDW AFTER Thanksgiving!

I did too, but I expect the same canned response we got while waiting for November hours.

Seems like Disney is quickly losing their magic...if they can't get it right during the planning stages, what else do we have to look forward to going downhill on our upcoming trips? :confused3

really. I hate to say this but this may be my last trip... what else are they going to get rid of? Mickey?

Just wait - I bet next year they'll go back to starting them early again - but will charge a special admission to that part of the park to see them....."well, here you go folks - you wanted the Osbourne Lights early, but it's going to cost you!"

yeah I almost put that I would pay to see them. I understand the electricity is a big expense. they would have to really rope off a large area - would be kind of awkward. will probably be like MCMCP or MNSSHP where you pay extra money to go in the park that night to see them and have free run of the park...sigh
