Not sure how credible this is but was talking to CM at HS this week and I brought up Osborn lights desert party we went to and they said they are not done. They said it was one of the biggest money makers for HS but it had to be taken down due to construction. Said we'd probably see them resurface this year some at Disney Springs and once construction completed, they would bring lights back to HS.

Again, not sure how credible but relaying what I heard.

I do suspect that there will be SOME kind of light show SOMEWHERE, but probably will NOT be labeled Osborne Lights, as I believe everything that was originally purchased from the Osborne family has been sent back to them. That doesn't mean that the ones Disney added to the "Spectacle" won't reappear in some form, but probably not in the Streets as that will be converted to the new "Star Wars" area, from what I've read. I'm sure others have more info, just going on the Dis threads I've read.

I too will miss this wonderful event this Christmas, and hope that SOMETHING can match the beauty of those Dancing Lights!

Highly unlikely it happens at Disney springs. It's even highly unlikely they ever come back period. DHS is losing their infrastructure for the lights and Disney springs doesn't require admission.

Finally get my sister to take the kids to Disney this year and after telling them how fantastic the Osborne lights are, they're gone:sad1: I hope you start hearing that they are coming back!

Disney Springs may not require admission, but having a lights display there (which, to me would TOTALLY fit in with the town feeling) would draw people to DS which in turn would probably lead to increased revenues for the shops and restaurants. Granted all of that $ doesn't go directly into Disney's pocket, but I imagine they would benefit nonetheless.

I don't think it would necessarily generate that much revenue for Disney though. I think many would just go for the lights and not shop.

Maybe. But if I was taking the time to effort (drive &/or take a bus) to take my family to see the lights, we would at the very least eat dinner down there - almost guaranteed. We aren't a big souvenir kind of family, but if we were, I could easily see wanting to shop, too.

I think traffic flow inside Disney Springs would be a nightmare if they did a light display similar to Osborne lights. Picture the jam packed crowds on the SOA when the lights were on. Now picture that same crowd in DS, and add people who are trying to get from Point A to Point B for dining or shopping. Gridlock. And I'll bet it would get ugly.

One of the Osborn family members posts on this board and has said that there are no plans to bring the lights back.

I got an flyer in the mail from Disney this week because I did a search recently for a December resort stay.

The flyer mentioned the Osbourne Lights.... mistake maybe? Or they really will be back? I don't think Disney makes those kinds of mistakes!

So, I recently searched the Disney website for a December report stay.

Well this week I got an advertisement in the mail from Disney about Disney in December... and it mentions the Osbourne Lights!

Not sure if this is a mistake (what?!) on Disney's advertising and marketing departments or... could they be coming back?!

the osborne lights as we knew them aren't coming back. does that mean that disney won't do some sort of light display in a smaller area of the park? this was the only thing the studios had for the hoidays so noone knows.
there was talk that possibly there would be some sort of display in what is going to be known as the muppet courtyard area. but then again who knows?

if they spread it out in DS like it was originally in HS it could work without disrupting traffic flow.
i do highly doubt that they will put it in DS or back in HS though.

Your not the first one who has claimed they received a flier with the lights mentioned. We are a family of CMs, Anual Pass holders and we frequently book and stay at WDW resorts. All the emails, Mickey monitors, and other publications we receive have never mentioned them again past last years run. I've even seen some of the power distribution and up audio equipment for sale at Disneys liquidation site, all of which had Osborne lights painted on them and/or an asset tag riveted on. So if you did receive such a publication, scan it or photograph it and post. Or it didn't happen. The lights are sadly gone..

Omg I agree with PP imagine the gridlock at DS if they did have some form of lightshow! It was bad enough at HS at Christmas. I was actually knocked out of my wheelchair. Folks were going mad. The lights were pretty though.

They could totally do a light show at downtown to drive sales...it honestly would make more sense there than at studios.

Everybody is overestimating how many actual tickets Osborne sold...which is the only way to "make money" off them.

And a much higher operational cost.

But at springs...where they collect rent and want to flood people there - that makes some sense.

I think the reason is won't happen is simple: they've been 100% upfront that they are looking to cut costs everywhere they can.

People really need to understand what current management is: willing to spend only as a last resort to get YOUR Money.
