Osborn lights not dead?

I am not pushing anything, just stating what I got in the mail. I am an Annual Passholder as well.

here is what I got last week. I'm sure it was a mistake but it made me hopefull is all :)

the only page that had the date is the page for the resorts, so I took that picture too to prove I just got this this year.

Your not the first one who has claimed they received a flier with the lights mentioned. We are a family of CMs, Anual Pass holders and we frequently book and stay at WDW resorts. All the emails, Mickey monitors, and other publications we receive have never mentioned them again past last years run. I've even seen some of the power distribution and up audio equipment for sale at Disneys liquidation site, all of which had Osborne lights painted on them and/or an asset tag riveted on. So if you did receive such a publication, scan it or photograph it and post. Or it didn't happen. The lights are sadly gone..

I think you will see some sort of large light display at DS, not Osborne and maybe not this year. I would think Disney rents its space at DS based on foot traffic through the area. If they can double that on top of what the holiday season brings, then that means more incoming rent. Obviously, there is a lot more to it than that, but I would think it's a big part.

They also greatly expanded the parking capacity and rerouted their internal transport...

That stood in the way of their events down there as much as anything.

Well, I think we are getting hung up in semantics here. I think that Disney will definitely do SOMETHING as far as Christmas lighting for decorations not only at DS but probably at other venues as well...but it will NOT be called "Osborne" anything, as that part of the display/show/equipment is no longer available. Disney did add a lot of elements to the original ones they got from the Osbornes, and I suspect we may see some of that in the future,

It would be great to have another huge "dancing lights" display, but I truly doubt it will happen any time soon. Will they put up some really cool Christmas decorations that maybe have some Disney-owned elements of the past show? Probably. But on a much smaller scale.

We can only hope to be able to experience another event in the future that is as awesome as the "Osborne" show was.

Would someone actually at WDW at the moment please go ask a bus driver about this so we can lay this issue to rest once and for all?!? ;)
We do drive all over property (well, I used to anyway), so of course we would know whats going on. :D

Given the push to develop events that can be up charged, it would seem they would only bring something similar back if they could put the display in a contained area to control the entrance point.

I get what you are saying and Disney would not be the first to think of this at all. An outdoor shopping center near us has a lighted tree show every Christmas season. I will say that during the lighting ceremony the crowds are impossible to squeeze through at times and that's just for a single tree in a Chicago suburb. Imagine a huge light show in DS and the word "nightmare" comes to mind. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that they would need to make certain it wouldn't interfere with the shopping/dining experience.

If anything like a light show does materialize at DS, I would expect it to be moderate and restricted to an open area.

Based upon what I've seen some say, it may be that osborn lights are ended, however, what would stop Disney from starting their own "disney lights" christmas spectacular? I think they know it was a big draw and will do something after construction is completed. May not be osborn lights, but I can see something being done.
