Orlando Water

Is it just me, or is Orlando tap water vile? I noticed this last year and this year, both times at Windsor Hills. The water smells awful. (So bad that I haven't been brave enough to taste it.) I acknowledge that I am lucky (?) enough to have a very heightened sense of smell . . . has anyone else noticed this? Is it just here in Kissimmee or all over the area?

I am with you 100%.. The water is just awful.. we always drink bottled water while we are there.. Even soft drinks taste off.. but tell you what.. when you are so hot and sweaty.. almost anything goes.. I've noticed the water is a little hard on my hair.. after a couple of days it starts feeling like straw.. I wonder if all of florida is like that?

It's all over central Florida. Greater Daytona Beach area water is even worse--I couldn't even drink what came out of the tap in DeLand. Conventional wisdom is that it's because they put extra chlorine in it, but that could just be an urban myth.

The water is AWFUL!! We usually pack a Britta water pitcher and filter water for our water bottles. We also bring a plastic pitcher and make Kool-aid and iced tea (powdered mixes) using the filtered water.

It is cheaper than buying bottled water and better for the environment. No plastic bottles in the landfill.

Orlando water has a high sulpher content, that's why it tastes so terrible.

Sorry, but if anyone thinks Orlando water is awful, they have no idea what awful water tastes like. Of course I prefer our home water, but the Orlando water is drinkable. It may have a slightly high sulfur content, but having relatives who lived in the country with high sulfur and iron content, it just does not compare.

Yep, it's foul!!

Of course, you can get by on it if you have to and it won't make you sick but this was the first time traveling outside the 'developing world' that I (indeed my whole family) preferred to buy bottled water rather than drink the vile stuff coming outta the taps!

And my wife's hair also had the dry scarecrow look about them after a day or two. We thought it was the humidity but maybe the water played its part too......

We never notice a problem with the taste of the water and often drink it in restaurants. Only the color and odor bothers us. We usually buy a couple of large jugs (3 gallons I think) of water at Walmart or Publix to get us through a week. They only cost about $3 each.

The residents say it's because the source is an underground aquifer that adds sulfer to the water. Smells nasty.

We can not drink it. We purchase bottled water by the 2.5 gallons. My husband even puts the bottled water it in his coffee. It has to be real nasty he drinks dark roast coffee black and he can not take it. LOL

I'm now back home and all of my clothes (that I washed before coming home) smell like that awful Orlando water. I have to admit, though, when I catch a waft of the odor, I kind of like it . . . it reminds me of vacation. :)
