Has anyone tried any of the vacation homes that are in the Disney area? I read about them on Deb Wills site and they sound like a very good deal. They are a fraction of the cost of a hotel room on property, and yet you get so much more like a full kitchen with full size fridge and micro, coffee maker, washer & dryer ( anyone knows how inconvenient the laundromat in the hotel can be, not to mention expensive). Private screened in pool included, cable tv's, vcr's, sony playstation, and some even included a rental car. I did the math and it is less than half of what we are paying to stay in the Polynesian, even though the room in the Poly is booked with a military discount. The vacation home still is way less. We have always stayed on property and I am just curious if anyone has an opinion of the vacation homes, are they as good a deal as they seem? It seems to me ideal for families with children. I just read on these boards someone wanting to know how to put her baby for a nap while they are all in the room. A vacation home is so nice in that they have 3, 4, 5 & more bedrooms, depending on what your needs are. Ideal for babies. Opinions anyone?

We stayed in a vacation home 3 years ago when we went to DisneyWorld. We loved it. It was so nice to have our own private pool. The day we arrive, we go to WalMart which is on 192 to buy groceries. We ate breakfast there every morning and it saved us lots of money. Make sure that your home is within 5 miles of DisneyWorld. Some homes are further than that and then it takes longer to get there.

We are going again the end of May and have a home 4 miles from WDW. We booked through Alexander Holiday Homes. The internet address is http://www.floridasunshine.com. However, there are many others.

The washer and dryer are a major asset. The kitchen is great. The private pool is the best. We are taking 3 children (13, 15, 16) so the cost savings is tremendous.

I do not think you will regret your decision to stay off site. We loved having a home all to ourselves!

Are you asking just for one trip, or do you travel to WDW on a semi-regular basis? If you like to go to WDW as often as every other year or so, you might be a good candidate for the Disney Vacation Club. Have you looked into that at all? My wife and I had never even heard about it until we stayed at the Grand Floridian last June - heck, for the money we paid just to stay in the GF that week, we could have paid off a HUGE chunk of the membership costs, and then had 40 years more almost paid for already. Anyway, long story short, DVC is sort of a timeshare, Disney style, without many of the negatives usually associated with timeshares. It made it affordable for us to be able to plan to take our 20 month old to WDW on a regular basis, when we thought we would have to wait until he was 4 or 5 before we could take him. Anyway, please let me know if you have any interest/questions about it and I can certainly point you in the right direction.

Take Care,

Jon
