Does anyone know if you can take your luggage on the monorail with you instead of dropping it off again. We only plan on taking 2 suitcases so we can easily manage with it on the monirail and Im hoping this will cut down on the waiting around at the 2nd carousel!! Will it work or are you made to go on monorail luggage free???

Also if we have to lose our luggage can one of us go and sort car hire out leaving the other one waiting fro the luggage. I seem to remember waiting for ages last time we went for the suitases to come back to us and with 4 small kids im hoping on cutting down the waiting round time !!

Last twice we have been(Xmas & Oct) we have kept our luggage. New escalator now takes you straight upto the monorail, we never had any trouble with 2nd bag collect but it is better keeping it.

Thanks Wayne !!
I just wanted reassurane that my idea was a good one had visions of getting to mono rail and someone telling me I had to leave luggage and the walking all the way back to drop it off again !! Apart from anything else my dh would be a bit miffed :rotfl:
My job is to keep track of the kids nad his is to carry the luggage !! Not sure who gets the best deal there?

You go thru Immigration, collect Luggage, thru Customs then when thru the door you have a choice to either bag drop or take you cases up the escalator onto the monorail.

so this is differemt to before, I think. Used to clear immigration and collect luggage. Then drop off for customs, get on monorail and collect luggage at other end, or am I getting confused?

Everyone used to clear Immigration thru the door and bag drop, up old escalator to security check onto monorail then collect for 2nd time and on your way. Now you have the option to bag drop or not and are allowed cases on teh monorail up the new escalator.

I had assumed that when you did the second bag drop that some US folk checked the luggage again for some reason, but was the purpose of 2nd drop just move luggage between buildings?

Yes it was thought to be the best way to get luggage across from the terminal to the main building.

We arrived here on 26th Jan and we were not allowed to take our cases with us on the train, they insisted that we put them on the conveyor belt and picked up at the 2nd collection point.

We had really hoped to take them with us to save the hassle of collecting again. If they do give you the option on the day you arrive then take them with you, it took ages (about 1/2 hour of waiting at the carrousel before they came through at the 2nd collection.

We're the other way - last May they absolutely refused to let us use bag-drop and they told us we could manage. Nearly broke our backs, 2 of us carrying 3 cases up an escalotor!

Stupid question but as its only been me & DH before I have never taken any notice but is there a lift at all? *** this time will have DD in a pushchair too :goodvibes

TBH I've never noticed a lift, but then I've never looked for one hehe. I'm sure someone here must know for certain

I have never looked for one but there has to be, how would wheelchairs get up?

I am pretty sure that there was a lift round the corner by the old esculator but when we went last year the was a family trying to get up the esculator with luggage plus child in a buggy!

Worst case we will re-drop the cases and carry DD and stroller up!
