Orlando/Florida maps

Hi everyone - can anyone recommend what I should do for road maps? Is there a particular 'brand' that is favourite amongst regular visitors? Also, should I buy before I go? If its best to get a map when I arrive will I be able to pick it up at the airport?

I'm also off to Naples so does anyone have any recommendations for a map covering wider Florida?

Hi Trashy,

Road maps of the Orlando area are notoriously hard to come by and are generally 'representative' rather than strictly accurate. Having said that, you can buy detailed atlasses (Rand McNally seem to be the AA or RAC equivalent) at the airport, and in the supermarkets once you are there. I've no doubt you could get one from Amazon too if you wanted one before you go.

If you are hiring a car, they are duty-bound to provide you with a map, so make sure you ask for one if it is not automatically provided.

Where are you staying? There are several online maps which will help you to get an overview before you go, although there is nothing like a paper version for the car once you arrive.

I like the Rand McNally maps - we have found them in gas stations with a larger shop attached in Orlando and surprisingly at some WDW resorts.
If you are travelling around Florida, these are far better than the maps provided by the car hire companies. The Rand McNally I have has enlarged maps of some of the towns.
I have seen some better than usual maps in a large Waterstones and in a local specialist (non-chain) book store in our town so it might be worth having a browse over here too.

Another recommendation for Rand McNally - got a superb AtoZ style one of Orlando and surrounding from amazon.co.uk for c.£15 two years ago.

Wasn't a stock book, but only took 5-7 days to arrive.
