We are considering flying in the Friday before our cruise and staying at the airport Hyatt overnight. We figured that way we could get up early and get on the first bus transfer to Port Canaveral. The rooms seem expensive though. Has anyone done this or can anyone suggest an alternative? Thanks!

I am staying there this Friday & will let you know. We booked our air through Disney and they included the Hyatt in our package price.

We're also staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before our cruise. We got a rate of $177, which is more than I'd rather pay, but I'm just thinking of it as part of my cruise trip and am sort of excited about it. We requested an atrium-view room, which will look over the hustle and bustle of the airport. I have 2 teens, and they think this is really cool!

We considered the Radisson, or one of the other port hotels, and some airport area lower-priced hotels. We even considered WDW for the one night. But for the convenience and excitement, we decided to pay the $177 and book the Hyatt.

As you said - the MCO Hyatt is mighty convenient yet pricey. We did it a couple weeks ago and would probably do it again. No need to schlep luggage back and forth to another hotel, and you're ready to go for the DCL transfers in the morning, with your tagged luggage sitting outside your hotel room door ready for pick-up by DCL. Not having to do a morning shuttle back to MCO is probably worth the Hyatt premium right there.

It's definitely worth staying at the airport for the convenience! After very early morning flights on our first two cruises, we realized that it wasn't worth starting a vacation already tired!

Personally, I don't worry about being on the first bus to the port. The gangway opens when it opens, and I'm happy to join the line about 11:30 or so. Our experience has been that once passengers are allowed to board, the line moves fairly quickly.

Only 4 1/2 months to go for us!!

There are about a dozen hotels 5 minutes off the airport property all built around a giant pond with a fountain. All offer free shuttles to and from the airport. We paid $65 for 4 people in a suite at the Sheraton. So if you don't mind being 5 minutes from the airport, you can get a room for less than half what the Hyatt charges. Just get up 5 minutes earlier, and you'll be on the bus to the port at the same time as if you had stayed at the Hyatt.

TVGUY, DID YOU DO PRICELINE FOR THE $65 IF YOU DID, WHICH AREA'S DID YOU USE BESIDES AIRPORT.

ALSO, IF YOU DID USE PRICELINE, HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DID YOU USE IT FOR YOUR TRIP. I AM GOING THIS NOV. DID YOU PRESS 3 1/2 STAR?

THANKS

I got lucky and got the Hyatt through priceline for $60 about 5 mths in advance. Just chose the orlando airport and the highest amt of stars. Good Luck

We've done it both ways. Our first cruise we stayed at the Hawthorne Suites Airport. I believe we paid $99 for a one-bedroom suite and that included the shuttle back and forth, plus a complimentary hot buffet breakfast. We arrived at MCO very late at night, 10:30pm, so the hotel shuttle was not running. I simply had to place a call using the hospitality phone in the baggage claim area. He arrived in about 10 minutes and it was a very quick ride and easy check-in. We made arrangements to have places set aside on the morning shuttle back to the airport. It worked out fine for us and really the only inconvenience is bringing your luggage back and forth. My children are older, so they were able to handle their own stuff, so I think that made it easier too.

The next time we decided to give the Hyatt a try. After getting our luggage off the carousel, we were standing at the registration desk within 5 minutes. They had a packet of information for DCL transfer guests which basically said to tag your luggage with the ones that came in your cruise book and leave it out before going to bed. The next time you'd see your luggage, it would be sitting out in front of your stateroom. In the morning, you could have room service, eat at McCoys at the Hyatt, or go right out into the airport facility and Krispy Kreme, Starbucks and a few others were within a few mintues walk. DCL representatives were waiting in the hotel lobby area to get you on the bus and headed to the port. Definitely more expensive, but very convenient.

it is definately worth the convenience. disney picked up our luggage and we sat comfortably in the lobby while waiting for our transport tp port canaveral. no shuttles, no schleping luggage and the facilities of the airport at our disposal. in june 04 we paid 140 w/ aaa discount and even though it was higher than we would like we considered it part of the vacation.

In our opinion it is well worth the extra few $s to stay at the MCO Hyatt - especially after a very long journey. We have done it 3 times now before our cruises, and cant stress how convenient it is. We paid approx $120, but it was worth every penny.Nat :cool1:

Our Travel Agent did everything.

We too chose the Hyatt for the night before our October cruise. We also decided to book it for the night after the cruise. That way, no rushing around and no chance of missing our flight back home. We paid $177.00 for each night too. That included our AAA discount and we booked it in January for October. We also figured it in on our price of the cruise.

Now we are playing with the idea of cancelling our Disney transfer back to the airport on Saturday, renting a car for the day and maybe running around Kissimmee. "Old Town" has an awesome "Cruise Night" on Saturdays. "Cruise Night" means old time cars from the 40's, 50's 60's etc. Or maybe one more "fix" of one of the parks. :wizard:

We booked the Hyatt the night before our cruise because we were scheduled to get in at 12:30 am and it was the shortest distance between the plane and the bed. That was WONDERFUL when we were delayed leaving DFW by a lightning storm and got into MCO at 3:30 AM.

We'll probably do the same the next time we go but we're taking the day before the cruise OFF and planning to get to Orlando about 3:30 in the AFTERNOON.

If we stayed at the Hyatt the night before the cruise, what time would the first bus to the Port be? What time did you get into the port if you took the first bus? Any info on early embarkation would be much appreciated. We are also considering staying at the Radisson at the Port...does anyone know what time their first shuttle is, and if it gets dropped off at the same location as the DCL transfers?

I know that most offer shuttle service to/from the airport...has anyone stayed at any other Hotels in the MCO Airport Area that offered back and forth shuttle service BETWEEN the hotel and Port Canaveral?

We stayed at the Hyatt the night before. I thought it was very much worth the price to not have to cart luggage around. Our larger pieces were in the hallway by 8:00 AM. The only things we had to carry on the ship were our day bags.

As for the buses, they start checking in at a table in the lobby at 9:30 AM. They want your hotel room number and number of bags. Ours was the first bus to leave and we left at about 10:00 AM. The video on the bus is perfectly timed :) to end as you pull into the terminal, right about 11:00 AM.

We just got back from a cruise and stayed at the Holiday Inn Select. They had a shuttle that ran every half hour. There is a perkins restaurant right across the street as well as TGIF and Bennigans close by--half a block or so.

I used my entertainment book card and got a rate of $60 on Sat nite before the cruise and $80 on Sunday nite after the cruise. We will stay there again due to convenience and price.

Is this located across from the airport? I certainly wouldn't mind shuttling across the street if the rooms are nice and we can get THAT much of a discount! Thanks for the tip!

Whether we were lucky or not I do not know but we got about $50 a night knocked off at check in.
