I'm lusting after a piece of furniture.

Does anyone have this? I want it so bad!

Help me justify this purchase! I figure with all the organizational stuff I've bought that didn't work I could have purchased this wonderful armoire.

PS - I'm a single mom so I really don't have to justify to anyone but myself but need just that little bit of peer influence if ya know what I mean! In other words, just tell me to jump off that bridge! :thumbsup2

Hey Julie, all the cool kids have one!

It does look really cool. I couldn't ever get that organized to actually label everything. But if someone wants to come over and do that part for me, well, I've got some great coffee/tea I can share.

Well if I had the extra $1300 laying around I would probably buy one. Especially since I lack space in my house. Having it all contained would be nice.
There are 2 things that concern me though. one was the lack of table space, I need about 3 times that much room when I scrap, and 2 it seemed awfully wobbly when he was opening it. It could have been on carpet or something, I don't know.

Oh and I know I have more stuff then would fit in 1 box. LOL

Really cool. I think it would be a great thing to have, especially if you had really limited space and/or wanted or needed to keep your scrapping stuff somewhere like the living room or dining room. It could pack away to neatly, folks would never suspect it was full of scrapping supplies! I don't need one, but I should would like to see one in person.......................P

Looks very cool (I  organization tools too!). Have you looked at http://www.hobbyhideaway.com/features.html at all? I saw them at the CKC Seattle and was very cool. The coolest part to me about the HH is that you can leav your stuff out on the table. It lifts and slides in, leaving 3" between the bottom & top part and over 6" overhead on the top. So you can leave your projects laid out and still close your cabinet.

That is beautiful, but it wouldn't fit in my scrapping room. Guess it has to go in yours, Juliegirl.:thumbsup2

Thanks for those links. They will help me design one for me to build. My wife says I have to put all my scrapbook stuff into a cabinet so it stays organized.

In theory it looks really cool but what concerns me is the limited desk space. Way too small for me. Plus it would be like scrapping inside of a closet. When the guy sat on it, it wobbled. Would be concerned with the kids around.

I'm concerned by the fact that if I had room to swing a cupbard out to 9' then that space would be a dedicated scrap rooom anyway;) I like the HH better, but still don't have room for it. I do have space for the scrapbox in the conservatory (once I bin all the boy's toys :lmao: ) but its not a comfortable room to work in- cold in winter and hot in summer. No, I need a new house with a fully-fitted scraproom ready to move into :thumbsup2

I wouldn't want to "enable" this one, Julie. At first glance, it looks really good, but I'm thinking those velcroed bags wouldn't support punches or anything that weighed very much, the table space is small and must be empty to close the unit, and As a previous poster said - I'd feel like I was scrapping in a box. My suggestion is to really observe the way you scrap, make a list of your criteria for a scrap space/storage system, and keep looking.

I wish there were more people like you around my place. I have converted the 3rd bedroom in our place to a dedicated craft room, complete with pegboard & shelves in the closet. We're trying to sell now and move, may just end up having to take down the pegboard & shelves & do some major putty work!

Another option to consider is something like this: http://www.for-keeps-sake.com/ or the cubes they sell @ Jo-Ann's to make your own. You can always add a lock on some of the cabinets if you are concerned about little hands.

What you need is a couple without children yet who already craft - we need 3 bedrooms PLUS the craft room or I'd be on a plane like a shot to view ;) Do you belong to any craft clubs or classes where you could drop a few hints?

I love that crafting unit, but I don't think they deliver in my area:rotfl2:

Thanks everyone - you all raise some very valid points about it.

I would have another table to scrapbook on so I wasn't concerned about the small table space but figured that the small table would be a good place to put my Cricut when I was scrapping. It always gets in the way and it would be nice to have a dedicated space for it.

I also planned on keeping small things in the Velcroed pouches like adhesive refills and newer embellishments until they found their permanent homes so I never even considered putting anything heavy into them.

It is actually going to be in my "office/library" and I really hate having my clutter everywhere which is why I was considering this. I found a scrapbook store relatively close that has one on display and plan on going to go see it before I commit to anything.

Also thanks for the links to the other storage furniture. I wish I was handy like you, Fireplug, so I could build myself something.

The Hobby Hideaway is gorgeous but I would end up spending almost three times what the Scrapbox is by the time I added everything I wanted. I have a LOT of stuff.

I wonder if a local cabinet maker might be able to make something and how much that would cost. Hmmmm - something to look into!!

I'll be interested to see what you finally choose and how you like it. Using the local cabinet maker would certainly insure a custom fit for your stuff and your space.

I have had a Hobby Hideaway for 3 years and I just LOVE it!!! I checked out having a piece made for me and the quote I got was way more money than the HH. It wouldn't have the desk that I needed (HH has a patent on the desk). :goodvibes My dh was impressed with the way it was made and now says it was the best purchase we ever made......(no more scrap projects laying around). It was a lot of money but any good piece of furniture is - My friend bought a For Keeps Sakes at the same time I bought my HH and hers is falling apart and sagging because of the stuff they use to make it. The scrap box looks more like a storage unit and I needed somewhere to do my work and store my stuff. Good Luck in whatever you choose to do.
