Original Gondola System Design Concept

View the original concept for the Gondola System:
(And the actual system implementation works as well as the concept)

Don't you consider the Gondola a huge improvement over the buses? Just face it. Disney blew it big time when they designed Disneyworld. Disneyland is a far superior. You can stay at the offsite hotels and walk to the front gate in 10 minutes.

1) I think the buses are better than the gondola system.
. . . gondolas are more fun than buses, but not as dependable
. . . the uptime of fixed-systems is uncertain
. . . without buses or other transports, there is no way to get people to their destination with breakdowns
. . . without buses. there is no ability to conform to changes in routing or capacity needs
2) You are correct regarding access to Disneyland vs. DisneyWorld.

I agree.

Disneyland has plenty of flaws and it not far superior. Ever been there when they had to cancel fireworks due to the proximity to houses and such? I have. Only manage to go off once in a 5 day trip. This reason alone means they didn't blow it designing WDW. Now, is it better to walk to the parks? Sure. Not sure it's better tripping over the homeless or avoiding the pan handlers though. Though each does have advantages over the other in many ways and in the end, they come out pretty even.

Wait. Were you there the same week I was?!?

When Walt imagined WDW, There was one park and lots of space for expansion. He did that because of the spectacle that happened outside of Disneyland. When he started to drive the idea of EPCOT, the monorail was expanded to include EPCOT. So at MK, you had boat, monorail and some bus (there were bus stops at the Mouse House at the TTC). Same when EPCOT opened.

No, you couldn't really walk to MK originally, that was by design and what was Walt's vision for the illusion. You really can't compare the 2, they are different animals. DL access is easier due to the area it's in.

The biggest issue is WDW didn't really keep up on the transportation as it expanded. All it really did was add additional buses. The few small boats really don't count.

Now they add a new transportation system and it's no good as far as some are concerned. This is really phase one of a multi phase expansion, which is dependent on this phase working well.

I get it that the rustyscupper has a thing against Igor and Disney in general, they could have put in a major monorail expansion with all new trains and he wouldn't be happy. Disney is learning this new system, it's going to take a bit of time to work out all the bugs. Compared to monorail expansion, yes, they cheaped out. Compared to other gondola systems, no they didn't cheap out. They went with a top of the line company with a proven product but have a Disney twist with a mid-line station. The accident proved that no matter what planning you have in place, crap happens in an actual emergency. Now learn from it and change the plan based on real world experience.

I spent 20 years as a first responder with emergency planning experience. What I can tell you is no matter how good your plans are on paper and implemented thru drills, there is something that doesn't ever go as planned or something that comes up in the actual emergency that someone didn't think of prior.

It's a funny thing about emergency situations, they never follow directions and go as planned, LOL
