Oreos

When my daughter was a young teenager, she had Oreos for a snack every day. She would open up a napkin and lay an Oreo at each corner and one in the middle. Then she would get a big glass of milk and dunk the Oreos in the milk as she ate them. Happy memory.
For me personally, I only like the dark chocolate Oreos, which are hard to find.

Love them, but never cared for the filling that much. Now I buy the Thins. Less “stuf”, more chocolate...yum. Not a dunker, but I do enjoy them with a big glass of cold milk.

When I was a kid, my mom always bought a different brand, Hydrox. My grandmother, however, must’ve preferred the taste of Oreos, since she always bought them. I always liked Oreos better too, but only had them as a special treat at her house.

So here’s some trivia...I come to find out that Hydrox, made by the Sunshine Co.,was actually the original chocolate sandwich cookie. It came out in 1908, then Nabisco introduced Oreos in 1912. Oreo became much more popular and people assumed that Hydrox copied them, when in fact, it was the other way around. More trivia...on all packaging, the Oreo filling is spelled as creme. The FDA doesn’t allow it to be called cream, because it’s not made with any dairy (may be considered vegan).
We loved the Hydrox cookies better than the Oreos in our house. I believe Oreo bought out Hydrox, if I remember correctly. Maybe someone here knows.
Have not had an Oreo for a bit, now going to buy some. Yummy! 😊

Or not quite enough...

The questions is to you lick the frosting out of the middle? Dunk it in milk? Or just eat them whole?
None of the above.

Double Stuffs, take apart being careful that the creme stays on one side. Eat the uncremed cookie. Take apart 2nd Double Stuff same way, again eat the uncremed cookie. Put the 2 cookies with the double stuffed creme together and BOOM, ya got yourself a Quad Stuffed cookie.

And back when they announced moving production to Mexico and everyone said they aren't buying Oreos again but continued to buy Oreos much like the people yelling to boycott the NFL but still talk about it 3 days out of the week, I continued not buying Oreos so it is a different brand.

I take two double stuff. I separate them and eat the two cookies that have no stuff. Then I put the stuff halves together to make a quadruple stuff and eat it.
Well, there you go! I am developing a bad habit of not finishing threads before responding...

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say I like the Golden Oreos better that the chocolate ones..........:duck:
The Aldi version, I think they’re called Benton’s, are surprisingly good too. And for $1.69, can’t beat the price. One of these days I’m going to do a side-by-side taste test.

I totally agree with both of you! Oreos taste burned or charcoaly to me, but Golden Oreos are delicious! And the Aldi “oreo” is a true smooth chocolate flavor: no charcoal taste at all!

A quick google search finds lots of info about this. I personally haven’t seen Hydrox in stores around here in many decades. Apparently they were available until the late 90’s, when they were bought out by Keebler and rebranded as “Droxies” before being discontinued, then brought back with the original name about 5 years ago. You can read about it below.

What I find interesting is the how the new blue packaging is so similar (clearly intentional) to that of Oreos, while the package I recall from my childhood was red.
