Ordering Palo While Staying in Royal Suite

I've never sailed on the Dream or Fantasy. In fact just on the Wonder. We are sailing in Dec and staying in the Roy suite. Our two children will be with us. While we would like to try out the dining rooms, I know we will sail on both the new ships again but probably not in a Royal Suite. Would you forgo the dining rooms (four night cruise) some/all evenings and have Palo delivered to your room? Can you do it more than one night?

If not which dining experiences on the Dream on a four night would you make sure to be at? Which ones do you recommend we miss?

TIA

We were on The Magic in the Royal..and we did desserts from Palo one night with friends. We did have Palo one night at Palo, and I kinda regret not doing it in the suite.

I haven't sailed on The Dream so Ican't answer that. But if you plan on going on The Dream again, take advantage of being in the Royal... We did spend much more time in the Cabin on Sea Days :).

I would absolutely skip a dining room meal to eat Palo in the Roy Suite.

Is there any additional charge for Palo when delivered to the Roy Suite? I assume there is tipping as for room service. Do you tip each course or at the end?

There is no charge. When we did it in the fantasy last summer, the concierge gave us the menu and had the Palo manager call us to place the order. They sent a team of 2 guys to come set up, serve and clear. I tipped them at the end. It's a good way to enjoy Palo in the privacy of your suite and have the kids present. I have to admit when they being the food all the way from the back of the ship to the most forward suites some of the dishes seemed to 'lose' something. Yet, it's something I recommend royal suite guests to take advantage of at least once. No offense to Walt but I love the Roy suites - on both classes of ships.

On one cruise, we actually either ate at Palo or had it delivered to our Royal Suite each and every night. We never went to a MDR the entire cruise. As mentioned, there is no charge when you get Palo as room service although most tend to tip fairly well since they usually make three trips to your room to serve the multiple courses.

We are headed off to the Fantasy in less than two weeks and will likely have Palo's delivered two or three times. We tend to sit with the kids, for example, at dinner during Pirate Night (and do not eat anything there) but have Palo delivered for ourselves later. The system actually works well. With the full fridge, it is nice to have some leftovers the next morning for breakfast!

This brings up a good question. What would you recommend for tipping?

I do not know if this is "appropriate" but I did $5 per delivery (three deliveries for each meal = total of $15 per order). It must have been fine because the same people returned the following days on subsequent orders and were very enthusiastic.

P.S. The delivery is not that much more tricky than a regular room service order, so I suspect that $15-20 range would be quite good to receive.

Since you have never been on one of the new ships and will be traveling with kids, I would make a point to be at AP for the Crush show. IMO, that is the only "can't miss" experience in the MDRs on the 4-night. On our 7-night on the Fantasy, I loved formal night as well. It helped that we were in the Royal Court, which is a fantastic setting for formal night.

I can't wait!!!!! I didn't know this and we are staying in the Roy suite for an upcoming cruise. My husband and I wanted to eat at Palo one night but my kids are not excited about not eating with us and staying in the kids club. This solves our problem! :)

Few things to add -

We were able to set our times between courses. IIRC, we set them to 20 minutes. Some may want to eat at a slower or faster pace.

Also, our kids had an entree from a MDR, but Palo brought a chocolate souffle for each of us, including the kids.

Great information! I'm even more excited :cool1:
