Ordering off the kids menu?

How strict are the TS restaurants about kids ages. :confused3 My DS is 10yrs old and most of the kids menus say up to 9yrs old. My DS will not eat anything off of the adult menu, he is very picky (he has autism) and mostly eats chicken nuggets for dinner/lunch. I don't want to lie about his age but I will if that's the only way he can order what he likes.

We have never been to WDW before so maybe I am worried about nothing.

Thanks for all of your help :flower:

I think that the server should accommodate your needs....they usually can't tell how old a child is and my 10 year old looks older and they have let her order off of kid's menus as has my 12 year old.

GOOD LUCK!!!
:goodvibes

We ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe with a very picky 13 year old. She asked the server if it was okay if she had chicken nuggets. They said, "of course, you may have whatever you'd like." I'm not sure if that happens everywhere, but if you just ask, I think they'd accommodate you.

A lot of times I'll ask the server if I can get a kid's meal myself, they never said no. I'm not a kid, but have a small appetite.
I don't think you'll have any trouble.

ETA: I've never done this at a buffet, just in case anyone was ready to pounce on me.

We just got back and we had a 10 ,11 and 16 year old that also prefer the childrens menu items and every restaurant we visited had no problem with them ordering from the childrens menu.

I was a little concerned about my kids and now I know I can relax a little!!
Thanks to OP for the question and to all you wonderful Disers who answered!!

I would hope so, you would actually be saving them $$ by not ordering a full adult meal.. My 1 son is also VERY picky about eating. Have fun!!

When we go to the "world", I often get things from the kids meals too...and I'm 25!

I try to eat 5 small meals a day to keep my blood sugar level consistent, and upon asking I've never ever had an issue...usually don't ever even get asked. They just understand.

Sometimes I like them even more than the grown up food.

I know here in California, I'm addicted to the popcorn chicken and happy face potatoes at D'California Adventure's Taste Pilot's Grill.

MMMM. Yummy.

Hey Katerbug,
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Our (now 10 year old son) has aspergers. When we went in 2002 we ate at...... Beaches and Cream (I think. It was in the Yatch/Beach club area). It was a night that he usually had Mac and Cheese. There was other things he liked, but not on that night. When the waitress found out he was upset that there wasn't mac and cheese, she went to the kitchen next door and got some for him :teeth:
They are very accommodating!

My kids are 12 and 10 -- everywhere we ate at, the host/hostess automatically gave them a kids menu. They were never even asked their age. I think the servers have learned that happy customers leave bigger tips. ;)

I'm another adult who has ordered off the kids menu at WDW and never had a problem. My older DS16, who is extremely picky (he has Asperger's Syndrome and a lot of the sensory/texture issues that go with it) often orders off the kid's menu.
