Kids are turning into adults for our fall trip. Really, there is nothing on adult menus they will eat -
so.. how does it work?
If they are "adults" at age 10... and want a hot dog let's say at Sci Fi.... when I order them a kid's meal (out of pocket, no dining plan).... will I be charged the regular kid's meal price.... or will they up the charge X amount to reflect them being an adult? Or are they going to add an extra chicken nugget, for instance, and then use that to justify charging them more of an adult price?

We usually do deluxe dining... and LOVE it! But 7 nights of deluxe at approx $125 more a night now with twins reaching adulthood.... that's a lot to be paying when they still want to eat the same kid's meals.... so out of pocket it looks like we'll have to go (and TIW).

But would they be able to order a kid's meal... at kid's meal pricing, at places like Tony's, Via Napoli, Sci Fi, 50's, Whispering Canyon? Obviously not for buffets I know.

Seems to depend on the restaurant. At most restaurants they seem to allow those paying OOP to order any way they wish, even off the kids menu regardless of age. But see the post above where a family was told that under no circumstances could their 10 year old order off the children's menu at La Hacienda de San Angel (on New Years Day; not sure what the deal is with that - if it's a consistent policy now or was only for the holiday)

We were just there in November, my daughter and niece are both 11 and one or both of them ordered off the kids menu at no additional charge at the following restaurants:
WCC
50s prime Time
Liberty Tree Tavern

At CRT, which is a fixed price they allowed my niece to order off the kids menu but they brought an adult portion (which she didn't eat because she doesn't eat that much) and we had to pay the adult price.

One nice surprise we had was at Rose & Crown for our Candlelight Processional the waiter let them order off the kids menu and only charged us the CP price for kids not adults! We were surprised and very happy! He definitely got an extra tip on that one.

Yep. My daughter had some $60 chicken nuggets at CRT in December. Gonna have to rethink that for return trips. And CRT has always been a highlight on all our trips.

I've seen it both ways, so it really just depends on the waiter. GF charges for an adult meal and adds more, others just brought out the kids' meal at the kids' meal price. I know I've ordered the kids' meal for breakfast at a CS place no questions asked, kids' price charged.

Ours was cheese pizza! I had to get past thinking, "I'm paying $60 for pizza." and realizethat I am paying for the experience and I would still be paying the same price if she ate off the adult menu and I wouldn't feel bad, so I needed to just get over it! It is definitely a cognitive decision for me to move on in this instance!

Over Christmas we had mixed results with my DD16. Only the Brown Derby let her have a kids meal at kids meal prices. Other places let her have adult size portions of kids items, and at some places we just shared.

After paying $40+ at Chef Mickeys for her to eat a Danish and some bacon, we will not be paying for her to eat at any more buffets.
