Ordering more than one entree at a meal

On our last cruise I ordered 2 desserts. They were great.

What was not so great was gaining 5 lbs on a 4 day cruise...

Aren't there lots of other places to get food if one entree doesn't fill you up? The idea of ordering 2 seems very strange to me. Maybe I am just picturing a regular sized entree form a restaurant. (Or even at WDW, where one entree stuffs me to the point of bursting!)

On our last cruise we traveled with 4 boys, 3 were teenagers and one was a picky 11 year old. The boys often ordered 2 entrees at the suggestion of the servers. One to try and one to be sure. The 11 year old ordered off the kids menu mostly. He would taste something from ours occasionally. One time he found he liked some kind of twice baked potato puff things and the servers were so excited that he ate something other than chicken strips and burgers and mac and cheese that they brought out a plate with 4 of them on it! It was so funny. We do love us some asparagas and when they would have it asked for a side of it. They brought out a large bowl and several of us shared it.

I didn't do the double entree but did do double appetizers now and then.

Flashing back to our cruise years ago. Can still remember our servers names ("I'm Marko and he's Yurko and we're your Croatian tag-team...You want it? We'll bring it!")

The first night I couldn't make up my mind between two appetizers, I asked Marko which he thought was better. His response, "No choose...I BRING YOU BOTH!"

And don't forget the birthday cake. It wasn't my Bd , and I have order it, I just ask to take the bd-ship off the top.

And don't forget, you can order off the kids menu too if nothing on the main menu appeals to you. One cruise I didn't like anything they had on the main menu, but the kids menu had spaghetti and chicken fingers -- just what I wanted [of course, that was a 24-day back-2-back in the Med and Transatlantic and we were pretty burned out on the rich food by the end of the third week]

I had the impression from our serving team that it was discouraged--I noticed when someone at the table would ask for 2 they would reply that the portion was "large" or "are you sure", etc.

We talked to the server at lunch at Lumierre's and they said that once in awhile during the meals for the week, they don't mind. But they especially hated working Med Cruises--they said the clientelle was different and that everyone always ordered 2-3 entrees each and ever meal and it was a lot of extra work and killed their arms. *shrug*

That said, if you asked for it and/or insisted, you got it.

My husband orders two entrees because he can't make up his mind which to have , so the servers say have both. Most times he just asks for the meat portion , like a lobster tail not the whole thing with sides.

He also asks for a Mickey Bar at every dinner even it is not on the menu. Sometimes it is listed on the kids but not always.

On steak and lobster night we ordered double and most nights my son ordered double cheeseburgers the server brought 2 everynight automatically as thats all he seemed to like .

My wife would often order two entrees, because they were so interesting, but then she would intentionally not order any starters. If it turned out that the two entrees were too much food for her, she always had me to help finish off the plate

This is not the norm for a DCL serving team and would have lead to us undertipping or not tipping at all. I might have even filed a complaint with the HS and/or guest services. Not only is it *incredibly* insulting to the guests in question, but there's a reason we save our money and splurge on an all-inclusive vacation like a cruise. We are foodies and are paying for the opportunity to eat lots of different things without worrying about the bill at the end of the night.

I order more than one thing in any given category on every night I've been on a DCL ship and I make a point to eat everything that I order (unless it simply is not edible -- which hasn't happened yet!). One night I skipped appetizers and soup/salad altogether and ordered three entrees instead, because they sounded the most appetizing!

My servers have never EVER implied that it was not in their job description to give me exactly what I ask for without me having to insist or demand it a second time. On our honeymoon my server even saved me an extra lobster tail on Gala night to take back to our room because he remembered that I had been choosing lobster dishes all week every time it had been offered on a menu! And believe me, we gave him and his team a very generous tip for his thoughtfulness throughout the cruise.

Even our head server brought us our honeymoon celebration cake AFTER we had already ordered desserts off the regular menu. It is NOT DCL policy to police the intake of food by guests onboard.

How exciting to be able to stay on 3 weeks but yes, I can surely see how you would get "over" the food by then. Just a grilled cheese and cup of soup would be nice by then.

We too have gotten the impression that this was frowned upon. We had one server tell us that DH could only have one lobster tail as they had to make sure there were enough for everyone in the dining room! Funny, as I am allergic to lobster so I told he could have mine.
On all of our 15 cruises with the exception of three I would say we ended up with the so so servers. We were blessed to have three cruises with the most exceptional teams one could imagine. They remained friends and as soon as we found out we could request them we did so on the next two cruises, then Theresa went and married the head server and stayed home to raise their children
Carmen also had the audacity to do the samething So, hopefully on our next cruise we will find a serving team that doesn't mind a double order of lobster tails.
Oh yeah and then there was the french head server who could not take his eyes off my oldest as he thought she looked just like Britney Spears and told her so every chance he got.. Ugh

one lobster...ha ha ha....I would've still requested two lobster tails...they know people are going to order 2 lobster tails..on my carnival cruise I ordered 3 lobster tails, and 2 filet mignons (no sides) and ate it all with appetizer and desserts...I told ya'll I'm a pig when I'm on vacation...at home I can never eat like that..

This sounds like the server we had on our cruise. One night I ordered two appies and no salad, and he acted like I did something wrong. On the last night, none of the appetizers and salads sounded good to my son, so I told him to just order a Caesar salad. Well, you would have thought we asked for the moon! He had to "check" to see if it could be done!! I guess he was too busy oggling our table mates teenage daughters! It was actually so obvious that my 10 year old son noticed!! And it was creepy as well!

In eight cruises, we have asked for double lobsters three times and our wait staff never said anything -- and we weren't the only ones. I think they are more prepared for this than is being let on

On our cruise in 2009, I could not make up my mind on what dinner entree I wanted, and they brought me both!! I ate them both!!!
