Ordering modified items at Be Our Guest

We have a breakfast reservation for Be Our Guest at the very end of August.

I've eaten there once before, but my DH and DS have not, and are very much looking forward to getting in there. DS isn't an issue. He eats everything. DH, on the other hand, is very, very fussy. I think Belle's Prefere will work for him if they removed the egg, brie, and any garnish. He won't eat the fruit salad, but he won't be offended by its presence, and someone else might. It's even possible he'd pick the grapes out.

I'm assuming we can't really do mobile order for that, but have to go to the cashier.

The other option is to save the credit (we'll be on the dining plan) and let him just have an orange juice and whatever looks good to him on the pastry tray, maybe sending him over to Gaston's for a cinnamon roll (although that's an awful lot of carbs) when we're done. I will ask him what he thinks, but he tends to want me to order for him, and to do the research.

Fortunately he's not actually allergic to anything, although his stomach can be kind of sensitive.

I think if you are planning to spend the credit you should order the option you and your son would eat the rest of. Is there any reason, for example, your husband wouldn't get the Gaston Feast? He can eat the bacon along with a croissant from the pastry tray. I have to assume even the fussiest of eaters can handle roasted potatoes, and your and your son can then have the scrambled eggs? I think that would be a lot easier than trying to modify something with poached eggs and brie and it gives more "value" to the credit rather than major exclusions.

ETA I think you can sub double bacon if the sausage is a no go

I always pre-order. Since I have a few food allergies that can’t be handled online, I just let the CM at the register know to advise the kitchen to leave off any items I don’t want. They make note and go back into the kitchen, while I am standing there, to confirm.

It's a shame they don't just have a side of bacon he could order since that seems to be all he'd eat from there. :(

He actually doesn't eat potatoes, for the most part, and he'd be unhappy at having the scrambled eggs on the plate. Sausage is a no go. Double bacon would be a plus. He will eat the croissant from the pastry tray, but he'd be happy to have more croissant, which is why I was thinking the Belle.

Anything that does get ordered for him will be nearly unrecognizable by the time we're done, so it's usually just a question of what it's simplest to start with.

Yeah, unfortunately they don't seem to. That would make my life easier, and I could just pay out of pocket for that.

What if you just order whatever you think he’ll eat the most of and once they deliver it, just put whatever he won’t eat in your plate? If that’s not an option, I would probably not pre-order.

Even if it's not listed on the menu, you might still be able to order a side of bacon but not through mobile order.

I think you mixed up the DH and DS abbreviations, I was wondering why you were writing about DH like he is a child you have to order for and worry about carbs for a grown man etc and then I realized lol

with our son sometimes we actually got food for him before the meal if we knew he would prefer that.

No, it is my DH. And obviously he is an adult, but he prefers that I order for him most of the time, because he thinks I'm better at being aware of what might be on the plate and I'm more likely to be successful in getting him something he'll eat. Since he is a grown man, the carbs are kind of his own issue, but...

On consultation, he thinks the stripped Belle Preferee will probably work, assuming they'll let me order it that way. I may see if they'll let me order bacon by itself, too, but it sounds like mobile order is not the way to go.

My DS is also an adult, but he eats pretty much everything.

You may know this, but your DH could just skip food at BOG entirely if there's nothing that really appeals to him. You don't have to order anything. I rarely eat breakfast and usually just get a coffee at BOG while my kids get an entree.

We had breakfast at BoG May 2019 and January 2020. Both times on the Dining Plan, pre-ordering (for the shorter line) and both times making similar modifications for my meal. I don't eat eggs, but didn't want to just skip a big part of such an expensive breakfast. Thankfully DH and DS eat them for me, I just asked for them on a separate plate or on the side. I also sub chicken sausage for the bacon. In May, no problems, food came out just as we ordered it. In January, the cashier was more interested in Dining Plan policy than in my substitutions. We found this funny because we understood and were ordering the right number of meals/credits. Our meals came out completely wrong. Thankfully the server was very kind and understanding. He fixed it and brought us extra.

My advice is to order the meal your DH will eat the most of and make any substitutions or ask for things on the side as necessary. You can pre-order the basic meals and make all the modifications when you "cash out" at the restaurant. Or just save his credit. Enjoy your trip!!

That's our back up plan if they won't let me strip the Belle sandwhich the way I need to, but he'd like to eat breakfast, just not most of what they serve.
Or better yet leave him off the adr and enjoy breakfast
We do split up sometimes, but in this case, he really wants to eat in BOG, and while I didn't try to get a lunch ADR, breakfast definitely fits better with our schedule, and lunch ordering may not be any easier.

Have you checked out the kids’s menu options? Even though you will most likely be charged the full credit, unless you do OOP for him, there may be something he likes better. The portions for kids are smaller, but maybe you can just all share.

We do sometimes do that, if there are easier options (he's had a lot of kid's turkey sandwiches), but unfortunately the kid's menu at BOG is also full of stuff he won't eat.

No, no it's not. This is actually my life.

My mother used to jokingly call him Persephone because he was so cautious about eating, but he really does have an extremely limited diet. And unlike many people with extreme adversions, he does really enjoy eating and likes trying different restaurants, but it can be very tricky for him to order/be ordered for, especially since a lot of "picky eater" options don't work for him.

Just have him try something new, he’s an adult for crying out loud. I didn’t like mushrooms when I was a kid, I had them as an adult and what do you know they were good.

Respectfully, this is not really that kind of issue.

He does try to be flexible, and will try new foods in a "safe" profile, but there's a long list of things that he either finds absolutely disgusting or has serious texture issues with. It's probably sensory of some kind, it might have improved if someone had tackled it when he was a kid, and he inadvertently "tries" quite a few things accidentally.
