You can ask for any drink in either a souvenier or regular cup. If they bring you the wrong thing, you don't have to sign for it. Tell them to get you a new one.
i don't want to be spending a lot of unnessary $$$ . Do I have to tell my Server every time that I don't want a souvenir glass with my drinks .. It is extra money correct?
You will need to go to a bar or find a server taking drink orders. At the Sail Away party, there will be lots of drinks on trays in DCL glasses, you don't have a choice there. However, it's not hard to find a bar by the pool decks.
Eeep. Okay, I haven't heard about this before. Is this something that I should warn my DH and parents about? What exactly should we be looking for/avoiding? I didn't realize there were situations where we would be presented with drinks to buy that way...

Anytime you see someone walking around with a tray of drinks, and they offer you one, chances are, there's going to be a charge.Eeep. Okay, I haven't heard about this before. The big exception to this is the captains reception on longer cruises. On that night adult drinks and smoothies are free flowing.Anytime you see someone walking around with a tray of drinks, and they offer you one, chances are, there's going to be a charge.

As I said, if they ask for your KTTW card, it's going to cost you.I expect we'll encounter this situation: we're going on an 11 night Transatlantic.
So, would it be correct to explain it this way to my family: "As a rule, alcoholic beverages/smoothies are an up-charge item. Even if someone comes around offering them on a tray, you'll be asked to charge it to your KTTW card. If you want one, be aware that you can get it cheaper without the souvenir cup -- so if it looks like it's in a fancy cup, or they mention the souvenir cup, you're better off going to one of the bars and getting a fresh one. This might be a good idea, anyway.
"The only exception to this rule is if we attend a Captain's Reception. You'll know this is a special situation (I'll tell you/It'll be in the Navigator). If that one case, if someone offers you a drink from a tray, enjoy without guilt/cost."
Am I getting the idea? Thank you guys SO SO SO much. This is the sort of thing that I can totally see my mom being annoyed/upset/confused about!

I would point out to her that she may find herself in that position onboard. The servers make it seem as if it's the norm to just "serve yourself" and THEN ask for the KTTW card. If she does find herself in the position of drink in hand and then realizing that she needs to pay for it, it's no shame to say "Oh, sorry" and put it back.If I know my mom, if she has already said, "Yes! I'd love one," and starts reaching for it, she's going to feel embarrassed if she finds out that it'll cost her and decides she doesn't want it. Embarrassed mom = irritated mom. Better to forewarn her so she doesn't get to that step accidentally.![]()

Just so you know, some served drinks have an extra charge in the dining rooms. Alcoholic drinks, for instance. In the dining rooms, what's included is sodas, coffee (regular, not specialty), tea (hot & iced), water (tap, not bottled), milk.Ugh. Thanks for the heads-up. This is precisely the sort of thing she'll hate. It's probably just safest to tell her that all served drinks outside the soda station and dining rooms are at an up-charge. Thanks so much for the heads-up.

Keep in mind that the drinks of the day are very well priced. They are about $5 each and that includes gratuity. Though I question how much alcohol is in it.
