I just ordered a Canon G9 (and a waterproof housing). I should have it for this weekend. I'm interested to see how well it works. I'll try post some shots here by Monday.
It is a great little camera other than at higher ISOs. Bet you can't tell which of the photos in this gallery were taken with my 1DsMkII and which were taken with the G9 (other than the underwater and high ISO indoor shots):
Mark - If you really get into using your G9, go to www.lensmate.com and check out the accessories. I got a wide angle and a telephoto lens for mine and ended up taking just it and its accessories on our last trip to Virginia. Not perfect but great for those times you don't want to lug all your other gear!
Here I was almost wondering if you might have broken down and ordered a D300. Especially since you're not a stockholder any more... but maybe next time!
I was discussing this (not the G9 in particular but PnSs in general) with ukcatfan when we met. I just can't be happy using a PnS any more, even if one suddenly offered superior image quality and functionality. I just need the "feel" of a proper SLR, with focus rings and such. (Or a rangefinder - something properly mechanical.) I wonder if you'll feel the same way?
Cool camera, but for underwater shots I still prefer my Olympus 770SW (waterproof with no case needed, unless you want to go below 33 FT, then they sell a case that can go to something like 200 ft deep). And it is more compact and takes great shots!
