I booked my trip through ORBITZ, who after 3 days of reassuring me that everything was OK, called to inform me that they cancelled my hotel stay because they were 'overbooked'
I was told that the POR, where I had reservations and all the other Disney Resorts that they had contractual agreements with were booked solid.

Moreover, this was a combo deal, Flight, Hotel, Ultimate Park Hopper Passes all in one.

Currently, I'm waiting for the supervisor to return so I can at least salvage the airfare/Ult. Park Hopper passes and book a hotel on my own.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

I was supposed to stay at the POR, who I called IMMEDIATELY after I spoke with ORBITZ last night. The Disney rep was very nice and told me that there certainly was availability.

I'm SOOOO confused. :(

Sorry to hear about ur situation...

I can imagine the stress, nobody stands between me and WDW! :teeth:

Did you book POR w/ Disney, when they told you they had available? I think w/ Orbitz they sell a block of pkgs and once its all booked, then that's it. So they probably oversold themselves.

I've never used Orbitz (and I now, I never will), but JetBlue has very reasonable airfare and the park tickets you can order online. I know, it's not the same as when you get everything in a pkg, but this way, you're doing the work yourself and you know its NOT going to get cancelled.

MOUSESAVERS.COM
Also has WONDERFUL codes and discount notices available. I hope it all works out for you...don't worry...just look forward to seeing Mickey!:teeth: :teeth:

OK, here's the latest. (And I'm sorry if I'm using this as a personal venting spot.)

Called ORBITZ again and spoke with a very nice supervisor.
She said she would call and check availability again.

THEN I called Disney directly. Lo and behold, rooms at POR were available. They could not hold them for me, but they said that all ORBITZ had to do was call them up and settle this.

Basically, as expected, the resort rooms are available/unavailable minute-to-minute -- due to cancellations, etc.

Fingers crossed.

Should be resolved soon.

I hope everything works out for you. I would be sooo stressed. Hope you're enjoying the Magic soon!!

I'm more tired right now. I just want them to call back and say "OK, you're good" and get to bed. I've been working all night!

I never knew you could be totally bumped like that. That's a shame!! I started out trying to make reservations through expedia.com but I could only get a room if I got length of stay passes which I didn't want, then tried hotels.com only to learnthey cannot guarantee their rates. Someone told me they had booked a Disney hotel through hotels.com and when they arrived they were told they had to pay the regular rate. So I ended up going through Disneywith one of the codes and that worked out for me. Just be careful going through any of the internet sites, always ask if they guarantee their rate!
GOOD LUCK!! ::MinnieMo :sunny: ::MickeyMo

I would be really mad especially if they reassured you, what the heck. Be sure you get something out of it-they should compesate you in some way.

Correct me if I am wrong (calling all TA's). I believe sites like expedia and orbitz are called consolidators. They buy a block of rooms/pkgs at a particular rate, and some have more than others. Once they are gone they can't book it at those rates. I understand this happens alot with airfares in particular. If you call WDTC they usually hold a booking for 14 days? at which time your deposit is due and if none is received the room etc is released back into the system that night. Whenever I have called to inquire about rates they always have asked if I want to put it on hold. Have things changed? All the best to you-hope all works out. I would probably call a reputable TA and see what they can do for you (AAA has always been great for us, if nothing else they can get a AAA disount on the room and they usually have a Disney Specialist or two on staff).

Glad everything worked out in the end! What worrying you must have been doing! Thank you for the heads up on Orbitz and their "real" hotel policy!

Have a Disney Day!
Debbie

Basically it was a 16 hour snafu.
I'm still booked at the same place, same rate etc.

What it really boiled down to was that when they checked there were no vacancies on Monday. Then they gave up.

I physically called Disney 407-WDISNEY on my own and they explained that ressies pop in and out due to cancellations, etc.

I must say, even though it was a rough day with uncertainty, the reps from ORBITZ were VERY courteous and very apologetic. And handled everything in the best possible manner. Unfortunately, their policies are trash. But the managers I dealt with were great.

Have a great vacation now and try to put this all behind you.
