I remember as a child when we went to DW, my parents stopped at an orange grove to pick oranges, sample orange juice, etc. Does anyone know of a place near Orlando that does this now? I thought it would be fun for the kids.

This sounds like a great idea. I would also be curious as to what time of year.

My family and I used to stop at an orange grove just outside on the North of Orlando. It was so fun! I loved to pick the oranges and eat them right there - YUM!

Unfortunately, they built houses where this used to be and only a small portion of the grove remains. :sad1: It, however, is closed to the public. Not sure though, that this is the one that you used to visit.

If someone knows of another public you pick grove around Orlando, please let me know. I would love to take my son!

ive never seen one that allows you to tour it, not saying they arent there, ive just never seen it.

i know everyone knows this, but i want to reiterate that you can not pick any oranges from orchards that you see on the side of the road.

The orange grove that we used to visit was open to the public. It was a You-Pick Grove. The people that ran it were extremely nice and friendly. But like I said it is now it is covered with houses and only a small portion remains which is closed to the public.

When we went down to Disney back in 2006 and discovered that it was gone - it was very disappointing. But this particular grove, we visited when I was a small girl up to when I was a young teenager. So, it very well could have been gone for many years.

I would love to find another You-Pick grove - it is lots of fun to pick the fruit yourself. Not sure I could say that if I did it for a living!

As of last year we went to Showcase of Citrus and it was great! It is on Rt 27 not far north of 192. It is going toward Clermont. I found out about it here on the Disboard and we all really enjoyed it. You can google their web site. We were there in Feb and the kids got to pick oranges, and grapefruit. The juice they sell is delicious. Grammy

Oh, thank you! :cool1: Even though, I'm not the orginial poster for this topic - I am grateful for the information. Can't wait to visit them! Again thank you!:thumbsup2

Thanks for this info...I just looked them up online & found this:
Welcome to The Showcase of Citrus'
Online Citrus Grove and Gift Shop!

Notice: Gift Shop and U Pick Citrus are closed
during the summer months; May - October.

Bummer for me but I'm sure it will help someone to plan something unique on an upcoming trip.

We will miss it in September. But I'm trying to convince my husband that we should return to DW around November 08 for a short trip and swing by the orange grove on the way home.

He loves to get-a-way so it shouldn't be hard to persuade him. :goodvibes
