Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? My sister is letting us use a week of her timeshare, and this is the place that came up for the week we wanted. I have never stayed offsite before and was wondering how far to Disney and Universal, and pro's and cons of staying offsite. I know we will have to rent a car, and we will be arriving on Halloween, so I have to plan. Thanks for any information.

This is a wonderful resort. If you have kids they will love it too. Can't answer the pro's & con's about staying offsite compared to staying on site because I have never stayed on site. My family loves staying off site. I hope you do to.

I've done both and will be doing both next week. We're staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for 2 days and then Orange Lakes for 7. Disney resorts are great if that is all you want to do. The family and I love Disney but there is so much more to a Florida vacation. We have stayed off site for many years now and I prefer it, especially now that we have been doing timeshare rentals. I have been getting two bedroom suites in great resorts for half the price of a little room at a Disney resort. The only reason we are doing AKL is because I needed 2 more nights and they were running a special ($108 a night). I'm sure it will be wonderful but we'll be glad to check into Orange lake and have some room.

Thanks for the information. Is it close to Universal also? We are staying at Orange Lakes for the week and then I am thinking of staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Poly for 3 days after we check out on Friday. I don't like to drive around unfamiliar places, but I figured we would find our way around. The resort looks great and the pool also. Did anyone rent a car onsite or at the airport? Thanks for all the help!

I've posted multiple times answering all your questions. Was there May 2002. Go to bottom of page and type in Orange Lake.....

Drive to Universal was 30 minutes.

Once offsite, you may not wnat to stay on-site again if space is important. Drive to Disney 15 minutes max.

The search is not working right now. In fact it is down more than it is working. Sorry

Hi,

We stayed at Orange Lake at Thanksgiving in a 2 bedroom in the North Village. We liked it so much that we purchased a week, through resale of course. This resort has something for everyone!
It is pretty close to the parks, depending on the traffic. It has a Public's on the property and many restaurants onsite. We tried a few of them while we were there and they were pretty good. :)
We will be back at OLCC in June, can't wait!

Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions. :)

Is the road construction on 192 in this area done? When we were in WDW June 2001 there was a lot of road work going on on 192 which really made for some slow going. My sister and her husband are thinking of staying at Orange Lake on April and were wondering about convenience to WDW and Sea World.

Hi,

There wasn't any construction going on when we were there in Nov. The traffic moved pretty smoothly, it took us around 15 min or so to get to Sea World.

Randi :)

The construction on 192 is to the east side of Route 4. Orange Lake and Disney are to the west. I am not aware of any road work on the west side.

Can someone describe the pools and activities they have there for the kids? We will be going with a 1 year old, 4 year old and a six year old. I wanted to know if the pools had waterslides or mushrooms?

Thanks

Carol

This was a list of questions answered after our trip. Enjoy, a very nice resort with plenty to do.....

1)Where did you stay, and was it in close proximity to a pool?

We were in the North Villas..... Pool was a half mile around winding road, though we saw it from the patio. Were on 7th hole of the 9 hole walking course. Drove everyday, but not a problem.

2)Did they let you check-in early?

Were there at 1:30 and room was ready.

3)How was the transportation within the resort?

Didn't use it as I don't like to wait. Doesn't look great, but we didn't need it.

4)Did you go to the Luau, or any of the parties at the resort? If so, how'd you like them?

Many were at the main pool. The pools there include an Olympic pool, a huge pool with a bandshell if entertainment, a smaller pool, kids pool and 2 spas. Also there was the miniputt and exercise room.

The North Pool nad the waterslide, kids area, waterfalls and no deeper then 4 feet. Very nice, also very hot water.

Did not do Luau or C&W BBQ, though checked the buffet in the restaurant and it looked quite good.

My spouse calls it 'organized fun' and is not into it.

5)Did you golf?

Yes did the 9 hole walking course. Ran around in 1 hour as it was empty considering the 95 degree temps at 5:00 pm. Cost $8.

Did the new Legends course $34 after 3:00, included cart, no surcharge playing alone. Caught up and played with couple after 7 holes. Very nice course. Played in under 4 hours.

I play 2-3 balls when alone and thus get in 2-3 equivalent rounds. Hate driving ranges, so great practice for me.

I think the special is 3 rounds for $112, so if playing at 7:00 am, that is a great bargain too.

6)Did you eat at the resort, and how was it?

Well for me the key was they had Krispy Kreme Donuts at the breakfast buffet and on the presentation breakfast if you do it.

Did not eat there, as there are too many other places. Kids wanted to eat in room, so we had Chinese takeout from Publix plaza (1 light from resort) and microwaved mac and cheese 2 nights. The kids get drained too and want to relax.

7)How long of a drive was it to the Disney parks?

No time (15 minues maybe). I made it to Universal Monday morning in 30 minutes. Seaworld was 20 minutes.

8)Did you use any of OLCC transportation to the Disney parks? (I plan to golf, a morning or two, then use OLCC to meet everyone at the parks.)

I'd golf in the afternoon. They have transportation, but it is probably overpriced. May also look at afternoon break for family and a swim if temps are as high as last week. We couldn't last 6 hours at the parks. Spouse gave me the look often that she had had enough.

9)THANKS!!!!

Rooms are huge and comfortable. Three TV's including 36" in living room. Hue sectional and nice kitchen. Froze gatorades and water and they were slushies by noon, perfect. Plenty to do, no where near enough time. If in Tennis Villas near main building, may be more to do. But frankly, we were tired.

No timeshare presentation was required.

Any suggestions that you can make, about OLCC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, again!!!

As for eating...... Go to Outback for steak.... We really like it (and I have discerning tastes). In LBV we found a place called Romano's Macaroni Grill, which I thought was outstanding Italian at a great price, nice decor and large portions (one of the very very few times I did not finish my meal).

Crowds were light. Seldom a wait. Fastpass, while good, not great, long wait to use and still some lines at times. I.e. I went to Epcot at 3:00 and could not use Fastpass on test track 'til 5:00. At Universal, I got Express Passes that were valid immediately. Walked on MIB and ET.

Let me know if anymore questions.

How do you rent these places and how much do they cost?

I have found them on eBay but there are many other sources. The earlier you purchase them the better deal you get. I got mine in October 2002 for President's week. I got a steal. 2 bedroom for $599 for the week!!!

We just stayed in feb-2003! We loved it ! The 2 bedroom was great and clean and we had a newer unit!We were close to Splash Lagoon and it was great also. Even our 3 yo loved the pool and slide! We have stayed at the Poly and Cont. and all stars and even rented a house but we enjoyed this more. I would suggest this place to people with large familys or older guests comming along who may not want to do parks every day. They have so much going on at the place that you could never even get to the parks. Every night they have a dinner or dance or louau or campfire going on. We got a great deal on Skyauction of 268. tax inc!!! For a week! We will be back next year for sure!:D

Did you get that price for President's day week? If so, you did very well. My 2 bedroom unit ran from the 14th through the 21st, a very popular week.
