We will be staying at the Orange Lake Country Club from Saturday this week for 7 nights and have a couple of questions that hopefully you can answer for me.

1) We are members at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club and they provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, washing powder etc and wondered if OLCC do the same.

2) Can we/should we request a certain appartment (2 bedroom villa) before we arrive - and what are the best villas to request. We are a family of me my DH and DS (aged 10). We would prefer a newish appartment if possible and maybe near a quieter pool.

Thanks for your help in advance and for all the great threads on this site - you are all soooooooo helpful and friendly !!!!!!

Onlyholly-

Please give a review when you return...We are staying here in November. There will be my husband, me and DS (5).

Thanks!!!

Ok will give a review on our return. After OLCC we have a 10 night booking at the Hilton GVC so will report round about August 28.

Here is a link to another question about Orange Lake that I posted on - it may be some help -

Orange Lake thread

They do provide washing powder, dishwasher tablets & soap - for some reason I can't remember about the shampoo & conditioner! I think just a couple of hotel room sized bottles in each bathroom.
I don't really think the amount they provide of the kitchen things is really enough for a week, for a family, - so you may need to pack or buy a little more.

Enjoy your trip - that counter is so low you must be very excited now,

onlyholly,

I wish I could answer your questions about OLCC as well, but we will be there for our first visit in Dec. I would also be very interested in hearing about your experience upon your return...our only other suite-type resort experience was at the HGVC last Nov. and we loved it there! I'm also wondering how OLCC compares...hope you have a great trip! :D

Claire4dpins,

Thanks for the link to that OLCC thread and the info! If you don't mind my asking, does your family have a favorite section of the resort (West Village, North Village, etc.) and why? Thanks for any info!

Thanks to you all for your valued information - shall report back on our return.

Holly

I would request the East Village if you can get it. This is the newest area of OLCC.

Avoid North Village although it has the waterslide etc but you asked for a quiet pool...just curious if that is the pool that your 10 year old also wants?? You may spend alot of time at the North Village.

Tennis villas typically go to owners.

Hope that helps. I would try calling now to request a specific area. They typically do nto do this but if you get someone nice on the phone...and you are nice in return...

Good luck.

I thought the North side was the new building? I called the resort yesterday and they said North was new? We are going next month, but have not been able to secure a room/building yet. Is there a second choice? Are any rooms really bad?

East Village is the newest area and is still under construction.

Last time we were there we had one of the oldest units and it was fine. It was part of West village.

North village is among the newest but East is still newer.

The North Village is all new - and that is where I would choose to be - all the two beds and up there have the jaccuzzi sp? baths in the master. This is nearer the splash pool which I think would be fun for the kids. East Village is also new.

That having been said it is not near the clubhouse, cinema & eating places so if this is important I would go for West Village.

In my opinion all the units are nice - even the older ones - as I say the only thing I would miss is the jaccuzzi bath! We also like being near the Splash Pool.
I have never stayed in the studios or tennis villas though so I can't comment on them.

Hope you all have lovely trips,
Claire

Has anyone stayed at Orange Lake and requested non-smoking rooms? I've seen where other timeshare units dont specify and we are planning on going next month.

Also, is there a housekeeping fee when you leave? Do you have to clean before you vacate?

Cant wait to read the trip report!

For those of you who have already stayed at OLCC, can you please tell me what time of activities/entertainment are offered, particularly at night. From what I've read in past posts, some people don't want to leave the resort because there is so much to do! Thanks in advance.

NO housekeeping fee when you leave...unless you leave the room a real mess. I would do a light clena up before leaving...by that I mean, put the dirty dishes away, etc but maids do come in to do a full cleaning.

Non-smoking can be requested.

Activities run all day. Night activities are usually some type of buffet meal and entretainment that starts around 6 or 7 if my memory serves me correctly.

There is lots to do a OLCC but we still made time to go to WDW and Universal and other places.

the biggest complaints that I have send are about its size. Some guests did not like having to get in their cars to go the pool or the restuarant.

It only has 2 pools. - more golf courses than swimming pools.

Two Pools....???

There are three pools in the main pool area and then a large lagoon style pool at the North Village and I do not know how many are at the East Village. But there are far more than two pools at OLCC. And 5 full 18's of golf is a nice thing to have if you like golfing!

Yes it is large but we just walked to the other areas that we wanted to go to. A little exercise never hurt anyone....

And having the variety of pool areas is nice and means that you can always find an uncrowded pool.

sorry the map I had did not list the one in North Village - well not as a pool anyway

there were 2 pools listed in West Village - none in East Village.

Well I have to say we were not impressed at all ......... We were delayed in Washington for 2 hours, so did not arrive until 11.30pm - the reception staff were dull which didn't set us off on the right foot - who cares that it was nearly midnight, it was the start of our holiday!!

Our villa (2 bedroom) was situated in the North Village, a 10 minute (or more depending on traffic and sales carts) drive away and the swimmingpool a few minutes drive away (too hot to walk).

The villa setout was good but the place needed updating/decorating and a good old spring clean. The couches were torn in places, bedding ripped, beadspreads terribly faded/worn, there were bits of popcorn/food etc behind furniture/under beds which hadn't been cleaned for months, the TV screen had huge sticky finger marks as did the diningroom table and the place in general was not up to our standard of cleanliness. The towels were thin and scratchy and a few had rather large holes in them. One soap per bathroom and no shampoo.

The villa was full of artificial plants/trees/bushes etc (to make it look nice I suppose) but had years of dust attached to them and they looked really grubby, all I wanted to do was bundle the lot up and throw them in the bin Yukkkkkkk...

The nearest swimmingpool was a drive away and far too crowded and noisy for our liking, but saying that my DS (10) enjoyed the fun slide. The so called beach area was very small for the size of the resort and again needed a good clean-up (litter). We didn't use any other facilities except the puttputt - everything else was too crowded for us. The restaurants didn't appeal either especially the one with buffet service - $12.95 for a dried up joint of beef, a couple of other meat dishes and several, what looked like, tinned vegetables Yukkkk again. This was the only place not crowded, (I wonder why !!!!).

On our first morning Sales called to see if we would go on the tour - but we declined the offer and said the place was too big for us and that the villa was not to our standard of cleanliness. She was very sorry for the state of the place, made a few phone calls, and eventualy admitted that they had had a few complaints/problems with those villas and said they would send a maid to make it right. We again declined the maid offer as it needed more than just a maid and a duster. She tried her utmost to get us on the tour but we weren't having it, even for the "free gift".

All the cutlery and crockery is obviously included but as soon as you opened the cupboards the mustyness was just horrid. The colours were just awfull too, bright green sideplates, bright yellow dinnerplates, bright orange coffee mugs yukkkkk..... very cheap and tacky - every dish smelled of strong bleach. 2 dishwasher detergent sachets were included, 2 (1 load) boxes of washing powder and plenty of bin liners, but no washing up liquid. Bleach stained tea towels and coffee pot stands.

We did enjoy watching the golfers first thing in the morning though (about the only nic thing) right outside our lounge window and if golf is your thing, then this is the place to play.

Obviously most of our time was spent off-site, but I have to say the Kissimmee area is a bit tacky and the 192 was bumper to bumper most of the time - took ages to get anywhere.

We ate out every meal and found some nice new restaurants that were recommended on this site - but just a warning that the Golden Coral on the 192 was disgusting and put me off breakfast for the rest of my stay. We love the one near Crossroads on Vineland Ave (I think!!).

I could probably go on and on but I feel depressed with what I've already written and it's all flooding back.....

This was our tenth trip to Orlando and only once before have we stayed in the Kissimmee area.

We are Hilton Grand Vacation Club owners and after OLCC we had 10 nights to look forward to. The Hilton know how to look after their own, professional and have good customer service. Obviously nowhere can be 100% spotless but our experience at OLCC was not a good one and never have we experienced anything like it in all our travels around the world.

We spent each day at the OLCC just wishing the days away. Once we were at the HGVC we soon forgot about it.

We have been owners at the HGVC for the past five years now and upgraded twice. This time we traded-in our Seaworld property and bought at the new HGVC Tuscany Village - it is going to be a gem of a place.

I know this is not the review some of you were waiting for, but I had to be honest and hope that when any of you stay there, that it will be a much better experience than ours.

We have put it behind us now and it is all part of lifes experiences - one good thing has come out of it though - it has confirmed to us that we made the right decision 5 years ago to purchase with HGVC, we have never had a complaint yet and if we did, we know it will be dealt with professionally.

I am so sorry your stay was so bad.

post on the DVC rental/trade board - and next time try to trade with a DVC owner - they are wonderful!!!

I think your points can be used at any HGVC not just one in Orlando - I know alot of DVC members want to trade to Key West (there are several Hilton's there). So you might get someone willing to trade with you. (I know that you would normally trade through RCI - but a direct exchange with an owner would be better in your case - first of all DVC only exchange with II not RCI - and they have extra charges $95 (fee) that is added on plus the exchange fee.

disney is like hilton - they try to do things right - nothing is this world is perfect but when you have a problem - it is nice if the person you are complaining to at least understand your viewpoint.

try for a 2-bedroom at BCV (my new favorite) you can walk to Epcot or the Studios (or take a boat) here.

I am so sorry your stay was not as nice as you would have liked.

Really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at OLCC!! I was hoping to hear better news since we are due to stay there in Dec. Well, we'll heed the advice of others who have posted as to what section to request, and otherwise NOT expect to be "wowed"! Thank you for posting. It's good to hear the good with the bad so we can be prepared for whatever happens!
