Options for 3 adults, 3 kids, and a baby

I'm planning a trip for early next year. Last time, it was me, DW, and the kids and we enjoyed our stay at POR. This time, my mom may be going with us. We'll be on a budget, so the obvious choice is to get 2 rooms at a value resort. But before we had asked my mom to go, we had wanted to spend a few nights at AKL or one of the other deluxe resorts. With her going, it looks like we won't fit in a single room at AKL or anywhere else that I can see. And 2 rooms at a deluxe is probably out of the question.

Are there any other options for rooms that would fit 3 adults, 3 kids, and a baby? Anything that isn't outrageously expensive?

I've looked around here and on Allears. Is there anywhere that has a good list of the occupancy limits for different room types at the WDW resorts?

Your best bet would be to probably rent points from a DVC member and stay at one of the DVC resorts. You can stay comfortably in a two bedroom (8 people occupany limit), or splurge on a Grand Villa that fits 12!

Check out the Rental board under the DVC forums.

I thought about that and if I'm reading the point charts correctly, it looks like a 2 bdrm would go for $220 - $300 per night during the week, but over $500/night on fridays and saturdays ($10/point seems to be the going rate).
That might be in the budget for the weekdays, but definitely not for the weekend nights. Since we could get 2 rooms at a value for around $130-140/night or 2 rooms at a mod for around $280/night, I can't see spending $500/night or more for a DVC rental.

We'll probably end up just doing the 2 rooms at value, I was just hoping maybe there was a reasonably priced larger room at one of the deluxes that would fit all of us. Or maybe we could split the stay and end the trip with a Sunday-Thursday at a DVC. We are planning on 10 or 11 nights total.

The only other ONSITE option I could think of is the Fort Wilderness Cabins. They sleep 6 & a baby! The one cabin is slightly less then 2 rooms at a moderate.

Figure out how much it would have cost you (with your original plans) to stay at AKL/or another deluxe & then I presume move to a value. It may come out to the same as 10 nights at a Fort Wildness cabin. :confused3

But financial speaking 2 rooms at a Value is the least expensive way to go.
However.......3 adults & 3 kids & one baby even in 2 rooms (at a value) for 10 to 11 nights is rough  . Remember there are no "comfy" chairs or ottomans or HIDING SPACES, they are small rooms. That may be a bit stressful.

Otherwise ...there is always Offsite! In answer to your question, NO I have never seen a occupancy list anywhere. Sorry

Good luck ;)

Sounds like renting a house offsite is your best bet. There are some really nice ones with pools and spas and game rooms and you will have some PRIVACY!!!!

I know this is a lot of problem for a family.

but spend the weekend at the value, then move to a DVC resort.

you don't want to do it the other way - then you will miss the better place.

there are some suites CSR, AKL, WL - I think all the deluxes have suites - but if DVC is out of your price range - these places are so much more.

the only thing would be (as has been mentioned) is FW.

the problem with FW is one bathroom for 6 people can be a big problem!!!

the 2-bedroom at dvc resorts are different.

of course if you want to save money and don't mind a smaller space. then I would suggest two studios. two studios will be cheaper than a 2-bedroom - it will cost about what a 1-bedroom does.

but until you see a 1 or 2 bedroom - they are amazing!!!!

Since last time we spent 4 nights at POR in one room with 2 adults, 3 kids, and the baby, I think 2 rooms at a value with one extra adult would be fine. I'm sure we won't be in the rooms much. If we decide to split the stay, I guess we'll probably do 2 rooms at a value for half the time and either 2 rooms at a mod (we loved POR and wouldn't mind trying that again or maybe POFQ), 2 studios at a DVC, or a 2bdrm at a DVC. FW cabins might be nice, but since we're from the pacific NW, it's not really an interesting theme for us.

How do the DVC properties compare to the mods and deluxes? Like I said, we're on a budget, but would like to stay somewhere nicer for part of the time.

The DVC resorts are so much nicer than the moderates. Studios have two queen beds (OKW) or a queen bed and a double sleeper sofa. The one bedrooms have king sized bed in the master bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The two bedrooms are a one bedroom and a studio connected. No studios connect to another studio.

You will also have a small kitchenette in the studio - a microwave and undercounter refrigerator.
