Optimistic October 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

Hello all. Thank you for the birthday wishes. So much has been going on both good and bad. Let’s get the bad over with and end on a positive note.

The bad: My violent student has turned my classroom upside down. He only sits down to eat. Otherwise he’s pacing around my room threatening my students and myself. He is frighteningly aggressive and destructive. I have to keep everything on high shelves to protect the beautiful materials that I have bought with my own money, from him. He’s already destroyed some expensive items. My students are suffering because they are not safe and we must evacuate the classroom often. In the effort to protect them, I have had to block them and he’s punched and kicked me leaving bruises. Their instruction is constantly interrupted by his outrageous behavior, and the play centers are very limited. I can’t set up anything elaborate because he will destroy it. He was pounding so hard on my promethian board on Friday that I thought it was going to fall off of the wall. We have had two PPT meetings and all they tell me is: “collect more data.” I have enough to publish a book. The other day, a woman from Rhode Island was killed by a kid who kicked her in the chest. Houston, we have a problem.

The good: DD’s boyfriend arrived from London on October 1st. HE IS DIVINE. The day after he arrived, he cooked me a roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding for my birthday. We talked and laughed the entire day and evening. They went to Cape Cod for a romantic weekend and the following week consisted of preparing for their friends’ wedding. DD was their maid of honor and he was their best man. We had a wonderful time at the wedding. He stayed with us for two weeks, and when he had to leave, we all cried.

So glad you have something good to focus on in your family! But my heart goes out to you in your work life. There is no world where it's OK for you and all your other students to be unsafe because of one. I can't understand how admin has not acted yet.

Connecticut has added the Hindu holiday, Diwalli, to our calendar.

I get the day off. I really need this time off to get my head on straight between my school stress and challenges at home. I have not done a great job of taking care of myself. I started switching over my summer clothes to fall/winter yesterday but I got derailed by DH. It’s not okay between us, so I don’t have a peaceful place to just be right now. My after school job has become an escape to some degree. The kids are a lot, but violence isn’t tolerated. I’m very much appreciated and valued there. Plus it’s a little extra money. Today, being home alone is precious. I’m going to take this time to try to get back on track.

I got Animal Kingdom Lodge... never stayed there but whenever I go to Boma to eat I go early and stay late to enjoy the ambiance.

Sunday I took care of myself by meeting up with my Niece for lunch... it really hit the mark to sit and gab.

Motivation this week... Friday we travel down to the first building that will be going onto the new system to do some production testing. It is a big milestone and it has been a wild ride to get to this point. So I guess my motivation is to keep myself together and get thru it! I'd like to think we'll be able to take a breather after that, but in two weeks we go back down again. Thankfully it is to N Cal, so no long flights or time zone changes.

Woohoo... in general I'm doing better this week. Plus today is my first counseling appt and I'm looking forward to it and to getting to a place where I can manage life better.

Woohoo... finally, my allergy appointment is tomorrow. I've been off any allergy meds for almost a week and man am I stuffy and runny and all the things. It is good tho, because it means the medicine is out of my system and I should react to whatever is bothering me.

As if I didn’t already have enough going on, I had a car accident yesterday and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. By the grace of God, my injuries only consist of a cervical and lumbar sprain. It was a horrible experience. The person hit me while I was attempting to turn left into the parking lot of my after school job. Instead of patiently waiting another few seconds, she passed me on the left as I was going into the turn. Then she yelled at me for 30 minutes while we waited for the police and paramedics to arrive. My husband (who is great with emergencies) showed up quickly. The police didn’t come for an hour and I gave my statement while the paramedics prepared me for transport to the hospital. It was an unsafe scene, and I am grateful to the people from my second job who came to wait with me until authorities arrived. I am relieved to be home after being discharged around midnight. DH has already picked up my prescriptions and went to the body shop to get my Kate Spade school purse with my school keys and I.D. badge from my car which was somehow left behind in the chaos.

I am home through the weekend. I will have to rent a car for next week, but that’s a problem for another day.

Oh Summer, so sorry to hear this. Hopefully you'll be able to take the time needed to heal properly.

I’m thankful that although I’m in tremendous pain and the side effects of the meds are causing stomach issues, it could be SO MUCH WORSE.

I’m thankful for my foster grandma volunteer who told me that God told her to pray for me all day on Tuesday, the day of my accident.

I’m thankful that even though my blood pressure was extremely high in the ambulance, I didn’t have a stroke.

I’m thankful for the kind people who I know in the community where I have worked for 25 years…they saw me at the scene of the accident and waited with me until paramedics came.

I’m thankful that my injuries weren’t serious.

I’m thankful that when bad things happen, God sends his Angels.

I’m thankful for my DH. Even though we are having issues, he dropped everything when I called. He arrived before paramedics and police. He stayed after the ambulance took me to the hospital. He retrieved my things from my car and waited for the flatbed by himself. He came to the hospital and stayed with me, hadn’t eaten since lunch, and brought me home at midnight. He took Wednesday off of work to take care of me. He picked up and brought me my prescriptions the next morning, then he drove to the body shop to get my school purse. He dealt with the insurance company and sat with me as I made my legal recorded statement. He was available for whatever I needed.

I’m thankful for everything good that happened that I don’t know about.

I am so sorry. I hope you heal quickly.

I was in an accident when DD was in 2nd grade. It was a few days before her first communion. My hip muscle pulled away from my hip bone. One thing we learned and would do the next time was to get a lawyer. It was such a pain to deal with all the bills and their insurance (a girl rear-ended us). I had an ER visit, a few doctor appointment and had to do PT. We also had a doctors appointment for DS whose neck started to hurt. It took forever to get her insurance to pay things. Then we only got like $500 for DS and $2500 for me for missed work and pain and suffering. This didn't take into account all the time I was on the phone with either mine or her insurance getting it all figured out. It also didn't take into account the anxiety that DD had after that (she was at gymnastics and bobbled on the bean and then started crying and she also had a harder time leaving me). My car was totaled (it was only 2-3 years old and I still owed on it). There is no negotiated when it comes to cars. You get blue book value. This at least paid for the loan but really much after that to buy a new car. They also only gave us 24 hours to get a new car once the car is deemed totaled before they will no longer pay for a rental. It was all a big pain and lots of tears shed over stress.

Summer... I love your last statement "I am thankful for all the good things that happened that I don't know about."

I am thankful to be working from home today. Yesterday the office was incredibly loud, even with my headphones on and I need the quiet...and the three extra hours of sleep felt great.

I'm thankful to have my allergy appointment today and hopeful the tests will pin point what I react to so that treatment can be more targeted.

And I'm thankful for my counseling appointment yesterday. Well done me for getting that going again. My first follow up action from it is will be to finally hire someone to come in an clean for me on a regular basis.
