Was just wondering if anyone here had seen the show as was planning to join the group? I am and would love to have a disney fan as a partner! :wizard:

I only caught a bit of the show... What do you have to do :confused3

Well it goes something like this..

12 weeks of regular vigorous exercise(8 work outs a week)
No alcohol
6 8oz glasses of water per day
no food 3 hrs prior to bed time
no "white foods" ie... pasta, potatoes, rice and sugar.

There are more details on the site but thats the gist of it. Its following the book by Bob Greene. A new one that I just put on reserve at the library. Im sure it probably is close to the "get with the program" system.

Hey, I just checked out her website... I think I can do it.

Except maybe the no bread/pasta/potato/cereal for a month. Do you have to follow every rule????? I am currently doing WW so I am following that progrom.

ok, that is just too weird. I was just printing off all the information on her website.

By the way - go read the article she wrote on the boot camp section. Its a great read!!! REALLY GREAT read actually!

I have Bob Greene's original book, but the second edition called Making the Connection. He also wrote Get with the Program and his new book. His first book Making the connection is a great book and I recommend everyone to find it in the library and read it. He really makes sense with the things he says and I find myself re-reading it all the time. I fully read it at least once a year, but read different chapters throughout the year.

I have to figure how this fits into my training for the 1/2 marathon in April. I'm just confused that since I'm training (and I would be adding in even more exercise according to the boot camp plan) where am I getting my fuel (carbs) for exercise? I guess from the fruit, but is it enough?? That's the only thing Im confused on? It's only a month that your giving up the healthy grains.

I have the show TIVO'd, I'm hoping to watch it tonight.

I havent figured out the foods myself yet. Personally Ive been following the Dr Phil eating plan for the last week with the exception of dinners. I just cant seem to get meat with 2 vegetables past my kids for dinner. SO even with me changing and adding one pasta, rice or potatoe at night Ive still lost 3lbs and that was with NO excercise or all the water drinking.

What do you serve for a side dish if you cant serve rice, pasta or potatoes? THATs what I want to know. Besides vegetables!

Hi MelanieC, I was over at the site this morning but I didnt read the article yet. I will though now that you said it was so good. I also have read his other book(but I didnt get with the program then) and now I have the new book on reserve. Im going to head to the library and pick up the old one for atleast a start.

Im also hoping to start training for a marathon. Somethin I never dreamed about until I came here! But now its become a goal. What better way to plan to go to disney every year than to reward myself with a marathon and a few days at the park!

Good morning everyone!

I started Oprah's challenge yesterday. I follow the South Beach diet so the eating plan for the first month is similar to Phase 1. I said I'd never go back to Phase 1 because it's too hard but here I am! This is day 2 for me and I got up this morning and did a 43 minute Firm Super Body work out. I've given up my whole grain products and even though a whole month without them will be tough, I'm ready. The scale is already down 1 pound from yesterday so that's progress already!

I forgot to watch the show. :(

But I just spent a few mintue reading about it online and signed up. :)

:cheer2: :Pinkbounc

I'm already doing 45 minutes of cardio so just need to contiune to keep it up and make it more consistant. :) Which I've got the next two weeks scheduled in my calendar and I'm gonna do it. :) :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

Oh and I also have the making the connection book. :) I loved it I'm gonna re-read it. I read it years ago though so I can use the touch up.

I don't know about potatoes and pasta either. I will just limit the portion on these because I don't think I can totally cut it out either though I'll give it a good try.

I think the exercise portion not eating after 7:30 and water is great. I will avoid sugar and sweets for sure but potatoes(which I have on occasion) and especially pasta will be hard to cut out. I think I'll be out of pasta soon so maybe I can talk dh into a month of meat and veggies or I'll make his on the side. LOL Its so hard to make extras for just one person though. Ahh

Melissa - I know it can be so hard to give up the poatoes and pasta. I never dreamed it would be over a year for me not eating any french fries or mashed or baked potatoes but it's doable. I will say that I wasn't all that happy about giving up the whole grains for a whole month, that's two weeks longer than you have to give them up for Phase 1 of South Beach. But I'm determined to do it. It's nice to have everyone's support and know that we're doing this together!!!!

Lisa- what do you eat???? I really don't know how I can give up whole grains for a month... I really think I could do everything else

I don't drink (that often but not for the next 12 wks)
I don't have much sugar
I excercise 6 or 7 so I will bump that up
I give up food at night
I will bump up the water intake

BUT How do I give up all Grain-products.... ?????

Ok,
I went out and bought Bob's new book Total Body Makeover (TBM). It looks like it's similiar to Oprah's Boot Camp, but not as tough. 6 workouts a week instead of 8, etc.

I also bought a journal, now i wish I would have bought a bigger one to have more room to write. I really love my exercise journal I have. Its basically just a little black year calendar that I mark what I do and what I weigh each day. It's been a fun ritual to write in each day.

I still need more clarification on the no grains. I need to read up on that, because I use healthy grains in conjunction with protein in order to get the energy I need to train. Also, I must eat good carbs for my marathon and that would include whole wheat pasta and other whole wheat grains.

Lisa - I admit it a bit tough not to have the whole grains, that's probably why I haven't been losing like I need to because I've come to rely so heavily upon them. I have a journal on the WISH board with all my menus from the first two weeks of Phase 1 so you can check that out if you do a search under my username. I have next week's dinners planned out already and I'm having: fish and cole slaw, grilled chicken salad, grilled chicken and broccoli with cheese sauce, NY strip steak with garlic shrimp and salad and philly cheesesteak (steakkums) with sauteed mushrooms, onions and low fat cheese, plus I'll do our old standby crustless pizza. That will get me through next week and probably several weeks thereafter. I don't need a lot of variety (I've been having tuna salad at least 3 days per week for lunch for about a year now). I hope this helps you out some. It is totally doable to give up the whole grains for a time but I wouldn't want to do it for "life" or anything. We can be strong, guys we can do this!!!! Down with whole grains!!!! :)

Melanie - I may check the book out from the library. If you go to Oprah's website she has a whole section on the program and she does specifically say to give up the "white" stuff and whole grains and she even lists things like crackers, bread and cereal. I was crushed but it's day two and aside from feeling a little irritable from the sugar withdrawal, I'm fine. But unlike you, I'm not training for a marathon. You might want to modify the program a bit so we can do this together.

Are we sure her "white stuff" includes bread and potatoes or could it just be sugar?? I'm betting both but I didn't watch the show just what I read on the page today. :)

Okay never mind I found it the food section it does say bread potatoes. :)

I have decided to do the 12 week boot camp. I have been following the Somersize program which also cuts all the white stuff. My problem is the consistent exercise. I am hoping this will kick me into gear. I bought Bob's book in January, but I hadn't started the program until today.

I think the idea of planning the menus is great. Ive done the shopping this week but will have to make what I have work for the diet. Like I said I have been following the food program from Dr. Phil and personally I like that a little better. It never leaves you hungry and seems to include food from all groups. Im going to do the boot camp exercise, water, no late eating part. I think everyone should find what is working for them and that they can live with. If your doing WW then incorporate the rest of the program!

Thank you all for such a great response and support! Im excited! :bounce:

I am definately going to do the Boot Camp. I am skiping the no grains and going to limit but I will skip the "whites" but everything else I am going to stick to. I am afraid if I deprive myself than I will go over the deep end and I can't afford to screw this "life style" change thing now I am really close to goal.

I really think we can do it... I am really pumped up. :cheer2:

Lisa- I read some of your Journal thanks for the advice... Can I come over to your house for Dinner???? :goodvibes

Hey guys!!! I joined yesterday, intended to start today...well, I guess I did..my eating was on target but didn't get a lick of exercise in unless you count mopping and vacuuming all the floors! :) So Tuesday's will officially be my day of rest! :)

Yes, they did ask that you avoid all breads/grains/potatoes/corn for the first 4 weeks. I can probably swing that for 4 weeks...I just added in wheat toast 2 weeks ago...I'll miss it but I want to make this 12 weeks work for me...if I can lose what I think I can lose (up to 20 pounds) that'll put me within 10 pounds of my GOAL!!!! Well, my first goal atleast...I just want to be in the 150's by 4th of July then I'll take a siesta and just live in the 150's until I figure my body might want to go lower. I'm guessing 145 would be best for me....but it's been SOOO long since I've been down there I need to let my body adjust.

I'm getting up in the am for my workouts..I'll be anyone's buddy if they need one...I just need encouragment to get my workouts in...I've been eating South Beach style for 3 weeks now and have developed a good eating habit for the most part...but I need 3 strong weeks of exercising to get that started...TOMORROW is the day! :)

Let's do this gals/guys!
Tara

Okay- I'm in. I have a bad hip so I probably won't be able to exercise as vigorously as they want- but I'm sedentary (pretty much) now so anything will be an improvement. The alcohol won't be a problem.... the white stuff will be hard... but I can do it.... water will be easy (I love water!).

"Owning" that number was HARD!! I'd like to lose 25 pounds in the 12 weeks!!

I think Im going to put it for sale! Ive "owned" it too long. :confused3

Ok yesterday was my first full day and did pretty good. Today Im going to work on the menus for next week with the elimination of grains! That is SO hard. Mostly because the Dr Phil program includes them and I already did shopiing for that diet! I dont know how everyone else feels but I find that you almost have to be rich to eat healthy!

When I first started buying the Dr phil foods my grocery bill doubled and it hasnt come done. All those very lean meats are very pricey not to mention the huge variety of vegetables.

I would still like some suggestions on what to replace the "white foods" with. I know of cottage cheese and that works with the kids. BUT life without mac and cheese doesnt go well around here!
