"oprahbama"

Why or why not?

His quiet riot speech turned my stomach. So that's the card he is going to play? No thanks. I've had enough of it. Enough is enough!!!

It's time for someone to play the middle class card. Red, yellow, black, white....all of it. The working middle class.

Too poor to be rich, too rich (ha!!) to be poor.

Our family's health insurance is going to nearly three hundred dollars a week...A WEEK!!

Hillary is not going to win. Obama is not going to win. All the other democrat candidates except John Edwards aren't too well known.

That leaves John Edwards or a republican. And I would love to see congress lose their health insurance......or do something to help us with ours.

It will help him keeping the big Mo going his way

Ya know, I feel we democrats are in a spendid place right now. We have several electable candidates. They are all fabulous people and I could back any one of them for president. sigh! Right now, I'm for Obama but I see great things from almost all of them. I really like Kucinich because I have personal knowledge of him and he's out there really telling it straight. We are very lucky as I don't feel any of the Republican candidates hold a candle to our democratic runners. Some days I am giddy with glee. It's about time!!!
You know, I can honestly say I've never felt 'giddy' about any politician. Good for you! The reality is, when it comes to crunch time, the majority of voters will vote the party line, no matter who the candidate is.

I am just happy I figured out what POTUS meant on my own...

Didnt need Oprahs help either

Be honest. It really doesn't matter how much experience he has because this is America. He could be the most qualified on either side, and if he did get the nomination, in the general election, there is a percentage of Americans that simply will not vote for him for an obvious reason.

Let's hope that percentage is very, very small.

I personally think that becoming Vice President is akin to a political stake in the heart. VP's rarely get elected POTUS. If Obama wants the top position, he should stay Senator until he gets the nod for #1. He would be useless to the country as VP.

The same could be said for Hillary. A certain percentage of the population will never vote a woman into the top office in the nation. But if someone who had no qualms about putting a woman or black person into office, chose not to vote for them in the primary ONLY because they thought others might be too prejudiced to vote for them... that to me would be sad and pathetic.

I don't have any qualms about Obama in the foreign diplomacy department. He spent years of his childhood overseas, travelled extensively and was raised by a man who lived a majority of his life in Kenya. Obama has an innate awareness of the world, and their perception of us. He is aware of culture and perception differences that many people are not.

Being aware of the impact of how seemingly teeny tiny things appear in different cultures can make a TREMENDOUS difference in diplomatic issues. Back when my major was International Relations we studied some of this with various politicians and the best diplomats were ones with cultural sensitivity (not that they didn't make demands and get their point across but that they did it in a way respectful to the person hearing it). Ie, there is a thin line between drawing a line in the sand, or making a threat wrapped in a demeaning insult akin to slapping the person in the face (the current POTUS doesn't know where that thin line is, Obama I believe would).

Yes, this is different than diplomacy experience, but it still puts him lightyears ahead of the current POTUS... who had neither the background of international and vastly different culture experiences OR diplomacy experience (aside from Mexico).

To me Obama is a breath of fresh air, and Hillary is the same old. I completely supported President Bill Clinton, but I think the country needs new leadership to rescue us from this mess we are in now, and I think Obama is the man for the job.... whether Oprah says so or not.

oprahbama...love your title it fits sooooo well what I feel about the 2 of them and this meeting....think she has more pull than him...maybe she should run for POTUS :goodvibes

I like him also but the lack of experience is what pulls me away. I must say that I do like Hillary but will not make a decision completely till all the facts are in and the moment I punch out that card at the polls:thumbsup2

For those of you saying Obama lacks experience, a question. Two of the most experienced politicos in the US-Cheney and Rumsfeld- just really made a mess of things; what is it you think experience does? I think what we need is a bit of fresh air and Obama is just that. Anyway, I think 'experience' is WAY overrated!!!

My opinion is that Cheney and Rumsfeld made a mess of things because President Bush wasn't up to the task of managing them. Being VP and Secretary of Defense is VERY different from being the guy in charge.

I would say being a good president is more about managing people than it is about anything else. I think that's where Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, to use examples from each party, both succeeded -- they brought in good people around them, but they were clearly in charge. They could take sound advice from their subordinates and yet be authoritative enough to tell them no when necessary.

That is where President Bush is lacking and that's where I think Sen. Obama is a big unknown. And in this political climate, I think that's the biggest obstacle Sen. Obama has to overcome.

:confused3 'Cause........ he's............... black?

Glad you brought this up. I don't think that I could ever vote for a Jew or a Muslim or a woman.

Or a Morman.

Really!! Just how hard is it to push a big red button marked "NUKE 'EM" anyway??

Feeling truculent this morning, John?

How is your dfi doing with the quitting smoking? Tell her to hang in there. It gets better.......and tell her to be nice to you, you're getting cranky. ;)

If i was ever inclined to vote for Obama, just hearing that the big O endorses him turns me off completely. I can't stand that woman!!

Thanks for all the replies! I wish there would be more emphasis on what Obama has to say instead of just hearing/seeing Oprah and her reasons for endorsing him.

I guess my biggest problem with this election year is that I do want to see some drastic changes in our country and I guess I will just have to wait until the candidates are more specific about what they invision and how they plan to implement the changes.

Like what? What's your vision? All of the candidates have their most current "vision" for the country on their websites.

We were invited to go tonight and we are not going. The weather is going to be bad and we have met him several times. If he gets the nomination we would vote for him. Until then. we are supporting Hillary. After meeting her several times and talking with her on a conference call I have really changed my views on her. A year ago there would of been no way that I would of supported her.

Never see it. All you'll get is talking points until "after" the election. They all have to appeal to the largest number of voters and that means "not" being specific.

lori

Yep. I think that is one thing to keep in mind actually. There are some people who will be inflluenced by Opray, but I can tell you that when choosing a new book my book club very specifically AVOIDS her books. It is one of our rules of order! :rotfl:

I think you have a very good point here. I could see Hillary managing people fairly competently but I dislike too many of her stances to overcome that.
