After Oprah gets them in the seats do you think that Barak Obama can close the deal?

His platform is the one I most agree with, but his inexperience bothers me. I don't know why it bothers me so much - I keep hoping for a POTUS that hasn't been around long enough to have sold his soul many times over but whenever the opportunity is presented, I get unnerved by the inexperience.

Well, part of that is because we are in a huge mess right now. I think if things were better settled that would change.
Do I think it is on purpose....yep.:rolleyes1

Yup. I think Oprah's followers would drink the kool-aid if she told them to, so why not go with Obama? I don't think that Oprah's support (or that of her followers) will mean much in the long run, though.

There was a poll this morning that said 81% of voters wouldn't consider the "Oprah" factor at all.

I'm actually a registered Republican and thinking about trying to go tomorrow night just to see what they both have to say. I'd actually MUCH rather see Barack Obama as the nominee. I think we need a vigorous dialog about issues in this country, and not a mud slinging fest that the general election WILL become if Hillary is the nominee. In my mind, she has way too much baggage to even get past to take a look at the serious issues.

I really don't get that...why does Hillary have so much more "experience" in the mind of many Democrats? To me, living in the WH for 8 years and selecting the Christmas decorations doesn't really qualify you to be POTUS either.

I wish we didn't have commitments, I'd love to go hear Obama and Oprah this afternoon... more for Oprah than Obama I think.

I am having a hard time deciding who to support in the Caucus next month - there are things I like about several of the Democrats, and each has significant drawbacks as well.

For me, it is because she already has some experience in foreign diplomacy, as she did have to "host" state dinner and entertain foreign heads of state while she was first lady. She also is familiar with how the protocol of the office of POTUS works. I don't think Obama is as good at diplomacy, and right now, given how America is perceived worldwide, we can use all the diplomacy we can get. I agree that Oprah has enough influence of some people to get them to vote her way, just BECAUSE she supports him, but I would hope most voters would take an honest look at the candidates and make their decisions based on what they feel is best, not just because some celebrity (Republican or Democrat) tells them for whom to vote.

I like Obama and would like to see him POTUS someday, but I don't think he's ready for what just yet. He hasn't had the exposure to international diplomacy. Plus, whoever is the next POTUS has such a huge mess to clean up, they are going to be open to critisism for not being able turn back the clock. A Clinton Administration has been through that to an extent, so they would fare a little better.

I'd love to see a Clinton/Obama ticket in '08 and Obama as POTUS in '12 or '16. I think Obama will be in his 50's then and will have much more experience to bring, especially if he serves as VP.

I completely agree :thumbsup2

I like Obama. I'm not a big "fan". But I like him. I like how he handles the media instead of letting the media handle him. I like that he said he did inhale and that that was the point. He said everyone has made mistakes. Direct. Unapologetic. There is strength in that.

Don't know about the Oprah factor. She sure can sell a book! It'll be interesting to see how she influences (or doesn't) the race.

Given recent history I think the strongest candidate will be the one that can convince people that they won't make a big mistake, particularly in foreign policy. Sen. Obama is a dynamic personality that says a lot of things that appeal to people. But this is where, at least in my opinion, he falls well short. I think he has the potential to be excellent, but also the potential to really screw up. I'd say the same of Giuliani. It's not so much a matter of experience (Congressional experience isn't really that relevant anyway). It's more a matter of confidence in the judgment of the candidate.

Despite some of her missteps while in the White House, I think Sen. Clinton is thought of much better in that regard. I think she's learned a lot from that time and has moderated in many of her views since. Those missteps from the past have allowed her to grow in stature today, IMO. Sen. Obama's missteps are more likely to be in the present.

Just my opinion. Yours may differ substantially ;)

Barack Obama has been overseas many times and as a Senator has met foreign dignitaties. Our current president had never been across the water in any direction and had not been involved in foreign politics(Mexico aside) as a governor. Whoever gets elected this next time may only get 4 years because of the mess W is leaving. I'd rather see Obama get 8, I think he's wonderful.

I HAVE heard/seen him speak in person and I can tell you that if Oprah gets them out, Obama can reel them in. He's enormously magnetic.

Ya know, I feel we democrats are in a spendid place right now. We have several electable candidates. They are all fabulous people and I could back any one of them for president. sigh! Right now, I'm for Obama but I see great things from almost all of them. I really like Kucinich because I have personal knowledge of him and he's out there really telling it straight. We are very lucky as I don't feel any of the Republican candidates hold a candle to our democratic runners. Some days I am giddy with glee. It's about time!!!

I've wondered several times if this will come to pass, but he just doesn't seem like the type to want to be second string. I think it would be a shame if he did let his pride get in the way, though, because this would be a good place for him to get some of that much-needed experience and make many Americans comfortable with him for a future run.

Actually, I think it may be Hillary who lets her pride get in the way because she may not want someone to overshadow her. I would bet though she picks the VP that would bring her the most votes.

Clinton and Company will NEVER let Obama close the deal. I cannot foresee a Clinton/Obama ticket because I think by the time the dust settles, neither one will be on speaking terms.

Pretty much that and that is why she will be the POTUS.
