Oprah show - annoying!

Yeah, I was beginning to wonder if anybody else sees the irony in the world's richest woman preaching debt reduction to us squibs.

At least Dave Ramsey's been there, in debt. Oprah, geez. :rotfl2:

Maybe the commercials thing varies from different areas. I read this before it comes on here(4 pm) and we did not have that many commercials!! I wrote the times down!! The first commercial was at 4:12 then averaged about every 9-11 minutes after that and they only lasted 2 minutes at each break.

Yes, she did mention that in today's show. Another thing, if she DID pay off everyone's debt that was on todays show, and we all know she COULD very easily, they would more than likely just get back into deep debt again, not having worked at paying it off themselves. They need to learn how NOT to get in hot water. It will be interesting to see how this show goes each friday.

Exactly! I've tried to convey this point before. I'm so glad to see that someone else shares my opinions. She has cajillions of dollars. She could easily help out any of those people on her own. Remember when she gave all those people those cars on her season opener?? Yeah I thought "oh how nice of Oprah. Finally doing something good with all that money." Then NOT! Sponsors (I believe Pontiac) DONATED those cars. None of Oprah's money went towards those. Yet all of her worshipping followers just go out and buy stuff because it has the "Oprah" stamp on it along with her book club. Who cares?!

In defense of Oprah, (not that she needs any), She actually does give cajillins of dollars away but would it help those who are debt ridden to be given a bail out? After watching the show, (tivo'd) their spending habits are so outrageously out of control that if they don't change their lives, it would matter if they made a million dollars a year. With regard to Pontiac, no one would have gotton any cars donated if it wasn't the publicity that Oprah provided for Pontiac. I never was a big Oprah fan and I don't agree with every stance she takes, but I have grown to like her more and more. I believe she is sincere and a good person.

Ok, I never ever watch Oprah, cuz I don't really care for her. BUT, I have it on now, because over on the budget board, they said todays show was talking about the debt diet. Ok, heres my vent...there is a commercial every 2 minutes!! Literally! Is this how talk shows are now? I mean, she can't even get thru a list of 4 items, and she goes to a commercial..I timed it....less than 2 minutes of the show, then more commercials. How annoying!

DH and I turned it off for that very reason. Somebody needs to fund the woman who buys $250 pillowcases talk on debt management

But then, she doesn't live beyond her means. If your Oprah, you can afford a $250 pillow case. If your Jane Doe, better stick to the $6 ones at Walmart.

Then Oprah should not be promoting it on her show--and who in the world would spend even $6.00 on a pillow case? kohls mark down are usually under 3 bucks.

Why not? Not everyone is in debt. The first family was ridiculous. They had absolutely NO FOOD in their cupboard or fridge. They ate out for every meal. She talked on her cell phone more than 8000 minutes a month. That was one out of every four waking moments. Talk about clueless.

I would say poverty conditions with a whole history of molestation. Like her or hate her, she overcame the odds and good for her. I don't see any irony in a multi millionaire talking about debt reduction. There are lots of multimillionaires that found themselves in trouble. A lot of lottery winners couldn't manage their money and ended up in debt. Mike Tyson, Willie Nelson, its a long list.

I think Oprah, although she rose from the masses, is truly out of touch with the lifestyle of the average American, but at least an Oprah debt reduction show is better than a show of Oprah kissing some movie star's behind.

At least she could give them the credit and not make it seem like they were coming from her, like she does with everything she "gives" away.

I don't see the big conflict wiht her having "favorite things" shows and also doing this debt reduction diet plan she is doing. IF you can afford the things on the show or are lucky enough to go to the show and get them for free what's wrong with that? You see all kinds of expensive things on lots of shows but it doesn't mean you have to go out and buy them. And while I agree that Dave Ramsey is helping people he's also PROFITTING from people in debt. So not that big of a difference in my opinion. Oprah never says "go buy this stuff" she says they are HER favorite things. Big difference to me but I'm an Oprah fan. I watch My Favorite Things every year but I don't own any of those things. :)

People do actually buy the things on her favorite's list. My aunt every year prints out a list of what she gave away and checks the things off as she gets them. Not that she is an Oprah cult follower, but she has too much money. My point being though, that people buy the things, that's why businesses fight to be on her show.

And I love Oprah. I love what she does for women in other parts of the world. She may not talk about important things 100% of the time, but at least some of the time she does. A much better comparison than, let's say, Fear Factor?
