Last week I got a knock at my front door. It was a realtor asking if I would be willing to sell my home. I have thought of it from time to time and actually hoped to sometime next year. He had a buyer interested.
In negotiaions they are willing to pay my asking price and I had to scramble to find another house. That was a lot harder than it seemed and I am picky! I have a 115 year old victorian aka my dream house so moving would be difficult but I am on a busy street and I really want more of a neighborhood setting for my daughter.
The buyers want my house and are willing to take whatever terms I need. They are paying cash (nice huh!) Isn't that the stuff dreams are made of. Someone walks up and offers you a bunch of money
So scramble, scramble I found a house I really like. The price is a little more than I want to pay (isn't is always) and here is where I have to keep reminding my self I am NOT playing VMK because the word TRADE came into my head more than once. I would trade my house for this one! All they would need to do it throw in a yeti pin.
So seriously my house is being looked at and they are working the numbers in what it will take to upgrade it for office space (I am zoned commercial) and I am about to offer on this other really pretty house.
I swear that my VMK negotiation skills have come in handy. I am usually a person that likes to please and I give in more than I should in real life. In these negotations I felt myself much stronger and I know that it sounds werid but I think that all of the negotiating on VMK and how many times I have to walk away from a trade has taught me something. I bought the house before I got married so all the negotiating was mine to do, they really had to deal with me and not my husband.
I was truely shocked at what my house was worth. Then I got another big shock at what a comperatable house would cost. I am not getting rich but moving to a really nice neighborhood and getting a garage, an extra bathroom and a nice yard. It is looking like almost an even swap or dare I say it, trade! What I will make for my house will get me about the exact same mortgage at the new one.
So I am still not sure if the deal is working. I won't sell mine if this other house does not go through but I really felt that I did this whole thing well. Thanks to VMK and all of my trading to teach me how to be willing to walk away if the terms are not right.
So I have had little time to play the new game! I am busy in real life trades right now
