Opportunity Came Knocking

Last week I got a knock at my front door. It was a realtor asking if I would be willing to sell my home. I have thought of it from time to time and actually hoped to sometime next year. He had a buyer interested.

In negotiaions they are willing to pay my asking price and I had to scramble to find another house. That was a lot harder than it seemed and I am picky! I have a 115 year old victorian aka my dream house so moving would be difficult but I am on a busy street and I really want more of a neighborhood setting for my daughter.

The buyers want my house and are willing to take whatever terms I need. They are paying cash (nice huh!) Isn't that the stuff dreams are made of. Someone walks up and offers you a bunch of money :teeth:

So scramble, scramble I found a house I really like. The price is a little more than I want to pay (isn't is always) and here is where I have to keep reminding my self I am NOT playing VMK because the word TRADE came into my head more than once. I would trade my house for this one! All they would need to do it throw in a yeti pin.

So seriously my house is being looked at and they are working the numbers in what it will take to upgrade it for office space (I am zoned commercial) and I am about to offer on this other really pretty house.

I swear that my VMK negotiation skills have come in handy. I am usually a person that likes to please and I give in more than I should in real life. In these negotations I felt myself much stronger and I know that it sounds werid but I think that all of the negotiating on VMK and how many times I have to walk away from a trade has taught me something. I bought the house before I got married so all the negotiating was mine to do, they really had to deal with me and not my husband.

I was truely shocked at what my house was worth. Then I got another big shock at what a comperatable house would cost. I am not getting rich but moving to a really nice neighborhood and getting a garage, an extra bathroom and a nice yard. It is looking like almost an even swap or dare I say it, trade! What I will make for my house will get me about the exact same mortgage at the new one.

So I am still not sure if the deal is working. I won't sell mine if this other house does not go through but I really felt that I did this whole thing well. Thanks to VMK and all of my trading to teach me how to be willing to walk away if the terms are not right.

So I have had little time to play the new game! I am busy in real life trades right now :rotfl2:

Congrats!

I've only bought the one house- got our current home for a steal- much less than other buyers were offering because we were pregnant with two other kids- and the owners really wanted it to go to a young family... so that worked for us.

Now as a kid my parents moved us around alot with dad's work- but one move didn't- my parents and a some friends of theirs were just sort of conversing on how their house (an old victorian with 8 bedrooms) was too big for their family of 3 and that our house (an older home but a little younger than the other) that had 3 bedrooms and 5 of us in it- and only 1 bathroom- was really too small for our family- and they said- "wouldn't it be great if we could just trade houses" See my parents smaller home was completely refurbished- their home had some work done on it but needed much more- well when a lawyer also in on the conversation said- "it can be done" it happened- my parents did trade houses with another family. It was the craziest move too- we used one moving company and two trucks- and they'd load then drive to opposite house- unload and reload... there was about two months after that we were still exchanging boxes that got mixed up back- good thing they were all friends.

But it is a neat story to share- and hey no pesky trade windows and having to click on accept more than once lol

Excellent news, Lisa! It sounds like you're happy, and that's all that matters. I hope the deal goes smoothly for you and hope you keep us posted! Woohoo!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See, playing a game on the internet can come in handy and not a waste of time. GO VMK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scary how you thought you wanted to "trade a Yeti pin" as part of your
gut reaction! VMK has invaded our real lives.

Seems like yours for the better!

Thanks you all for all of the kind words. I am so excited about the new house and I should know this week what will happen. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

I should be packing but I couldn't resist a little playing with the new game. It seems like a lot of fun and I hope I can master it lol! I am not great at games like that without a lot of practice.

In my neck of the woods, if your house is zoned commercial, offers are 3 to 4 times MORE than what the house is worth. After all, they want the commercial property probably more so than the house. If I were you, I'd definately check with a realtor who specializes in commercial property to see if you are actually getting offered a fair deal. Especially since the people want to offer you cash. I know that usually cash talks and BS walks but I would hate to see you sell your house and find out later you could have gotten much more for it. Good luck with it all. :-)

:bounce: Good luck on your sale and possible relocation.

I agree with Raccyn the Realtor that approached you does not have your interests at heart....Check around.

Best wishes and I know all your VMK training is going to come in handy!

VMK does help IRL... sure you wouldn't like to move to FL? JK.

Oh FLorida is in the plan about 8 years from now. DH is going to go work for Disney that is the plan if we do not win the lottery. :rotfl:

Should we win it I will be moving into the Castle as soon as the check clears.

NC might be getting the lottery woo hoo. I think that my obsession with is is just because we do not have it. I love the dreams we can get for a 1.00!
