I would like opinions on where to eat next September/October.

It will be just me (VEGETARIAN) and my DS21 (who loves a good steak, but will also eat poultry, but NO SEAFOOD).

I know I can go look up menus on allears.net, but was just wanting some opinions from others. :goodvibes

I'm going to try not to go anywhere I've already been.

Here are the places I HAVE eaten:

CRT-breakfast only
Crystal Palace
Tony's
Donald's Breakfastosaurus
Rainforest Cafe
50's Prime Time
Hollywood Brown Derby
Hollywood and Vine
Mama Melrose
Sci-Fi
Garden Grill
Akershus-breakfast only
Alfredo's
Le Cellier
Marrakesh
Rose and Crown
San Angel
Boma
ESPN
Spoodles
California Grill
Chef Mickey's
Hoop Dee Doo
Trail's End
1900 Park Fare
Garden View Lounge-tea
Kona Cafe
Whispering Canyon

I was thinking maybe:
Boma (I know, I know, it's a repeat, but I LOVE it and DS has never eaten there).
Liberty Tree Tavern (for lunch, so we could pick off a menu)

Any ideas??

Thanks,

It's counter service, but Columbia Harbor House has a really good vegetarian chili and a hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich - and you can get 1/2 sandwich and chili as one meal. Mmmmmmmmmm They do have a ham sandwich if DS is too old for fried chicken strips. :) My DD isn't veg like me, but she's still on the kid's menu and didn't try the ham, so I can't give a review, but if it's as good as hummus, it's good.

I'm looking more for table service recommendations, but we will be eating counter service everyday too, so thanks! I've had the hummus sandwich. I agree, it IS good!! I haven't ever tried the chili, though, so that's an option. I didn't know you could get the 1/2 sandwich with the chili. That's good, since I don't think I could go there and NOT get that sandwich!

I'm not sure which restaurants are vegetarian-friendly, but (other than those you've already mentioned) we really like Concourse Steakhouse. We HATED the Plaza in Magic Kingdom and Teppanyaki Dining Room in Epcot. Happy Trip! :Pinkbounc

I would suggest the Grand Floridian Cafe. The food is delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere lovely!!! Another would be Artist Point, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. We eat at both every time we go and have not had a bad meal yet!!!

Thanks ashresiren and Eeyore2003! I will check into those. I had actually wondered about Concourse and Artist Point. I hadn't thought of the GF Cafe.
Thanks for the opinions!

Anyone else?

I am vegetarian who eats dairy products. I very much enjoyed the lunch buffets at both Akershus and the Biergarten German restaurant at Epcot. I found plenty that I could eat at both.

Akershus does a vegetarian entree of tortellini pasta (I think it was) with pesto sauce and lovely stir-fried veges (zucchini, carrots, bell peppers etc), and you get all the cold buffet selections too. They also include a platter of 3 different desserts in the buffet price.

I also enjoyed dinner at Boma and the character breakfast at Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary. Both had a big selection of food to choose from. Chef Mickeys even had granola and a healthy trail mix along with the usual cereals.

The Commissary counter-service restaurant at MGM had nice tabouleh hummus wraps served with a side of bean salad.

If you are going to Disney Quest at Downtown Disney, they have a counter-service place on the 5th floor called Food Quest which serves yummy burrito/fajita wraps. Just ask them to subsitute the chicken or meat for black beans.

I checked the menu listed for Grand Floridian Cafe before I recommended it and noticed that they had no vegetarian meal listed. I could swear they did have one on the menu when we went in November, but even if they don't, they are VERY accomodating there and I'm sure would come up with something delicious.
The mushroom soup at Artist Point is YUMMY as is the Berry Cobbler. The Chocolate Fondue at the Grand Floridian is....well.....can't wait for April!!! YUM!!!

Akershus and/or Biergarten sound interesting. I had thought of them as being too fishy (Akershus) and too sauerkraut/sausagey (Biergarten). Hmmmm.......maybe I should take another look.
That tortellini pasta sounds good! What did you find to eat at Biergarten? I eat dairy, also.

I love Boma and we WILL be going there!

I DO want to try the tabouleh wrap at ABC Commissary!

I don't know if we'll be going to DQ or not, but will keep that in mind.

Thanks!

So far, I think we've decided on Kona for breakfast, as DS wants Tonga Toast!
Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch, so I can order off a menu.
Boma for lunch or dinner.
Le Cellier for dinner. DS has his meal planned! Not sure what I will get.
Les Chefs de France for dinner. He has his meal planned here, too! Again, I'm not sure.

Hi Debbie, my name is Debbie too. :earsgirl:

The buffet at Akershus doesn't have as many vegetarian choices as Biergarten, but along with all the fishy stuff they had several salads and a selection of cheeses and yummy grainy breads and crackers. The vegetarian pasta meal is quite large (they give you a huge plate) and you can also ask for a side of mashed potatoes or rutabaga if you want. And of course you get the 3 different desserts all included in the buffet price. So I was very full after all that!

The Biergarten buffet had quite a few different vegetarian salads, various hot veges etc, bread rolls, and about 7 or 8 nice desserts. I tried all of them! Also kids' choices like macaroni cheese. Some of their salads were interesting. They had one with wheat "buds" I remember. They also had an unusual thing called spatzle which was some type of soft homemade pasta I think. I found plenty to eat there.

I found everybody at both buffets very helpful and willing to explain to you which dishes are vegetarian. The Biergarten has a German band for entertainment and a dance floor which the little kids love. You eat at communal tables but we had very nice people at our table, so we didn't mind.

For meat eaters, both places had several different hot meat dishes to choose from. So you don't have to only eat fishy stuff at Akershus or sausages at Biergarten. My husband loved it all! :cool1:

Thanks Debbie!

I think I might add Biergarten to our list! I'm trying to go places neither of us has been, and so far I've got 3 repeats on my list: Boma (because I LOVE it!), Kona for breakfast (because DS wants Tonga Toast), and Le Cellier (because DS REALLY wants a steak here). These 3 will all be new to him. I've had breakfast at Akershus (with DD for the Princess thing) 2 years ago, but never been for lunch or dinner, and DS hasn't been at all. I think they are doing Princess meals there for lunch and dinner now too, so Biergarten sounds like a better bet for me and my 21 year old son! It's going on the list! Of course, we don't go until 9/27, so I've got lots of time!

Thanks again!

Yes, all 3 meals at Akershus are princess meals now. We liked the "adult" atmosphere it used to have before the princesses. It gets more crowded and noisy now unfortunately.

Hi Debbie and Debbie. Obviously this thread is popular with Disney-loving-vegetarians-named-Deb. :rotfl:

DH, I and our youngest son are all vegetarian and we had a wonderful lunch at Wolfgang Pucks in Downtown Disney last summer - I know there are a few sections in Wolfgang Pucks with different dining options but the one we ate in is the sit down restaurant on the ground floor. We had a gorgeous vegetarian pasta dish with wonderful service. They had a nice choice in non-meat pizzas too and some lovely salads.

Enjoy!
Deb

Hi Deb! :wave2:

That's cool! Three of us! :teeth:

Maybe we should have a Vegetarian at WDW thread. I think I remember seeing one in the past, but it's been a while. We could tell where and WHAT we've eaten. My major problem seems to be that I DON'T like mushrooms!! Almost everywhere I go, WDW or not, when I mention being a vegetarian they tell me about this great portobello mushroom dish! :crazy2: I can stomach them if there's a few, small pieces in something, but not when they are the main ingredient! I also don't like squash or zucchini (but it's okay if they are IN something), and I HATE eggplant!

My DD14 and I are vegetarians, but my DH and DS20 aren't.

Great idea! There were some very helpful threads over the last year - it would be great to have links to all those too in a new thread.

YES! I'm the same. I like mushrooms in small doses. It happened me with aubergines recently too. I went to a restaurant (here at home I mean, not in WDW) and I ordered what sounded like a lovely dish - stuffed aubergine. It looked great and tasted great until about a third of the way into it, I suddenly felt kinda nauseous looking at it and realised it was just WAY too much aubergine. It started to taste slimy (all in my head of course!). I can't look at an aubergine since. :teeth:

We have different names for some fruit and veg here in Europe. I can't think what squash, zucchini or eggplant are. I've heard them all mentioned in movies and I'm sure I came across them in menus at WDW. Hmmm, I must do some research to see what we call them.

Same here! I now have to go do research to figure out what an aubergine is! :teeth:

AH! I just went to www.askjeeves.com to look up aubergine, and it said

"aubergine means eggplant in british english" !!!

So, I guess I don't like aubergines, since I hate eggplant!! :teeth:

:teeth: I did a bit of research too. Yes, eggplant is what we call aubergines. So neither of us are big fans of those, lol!

And it turns out zucchinis are what we call courgettes. I never knew that!! I like those diced up in vegetarian lasagne but can take or leave them really. :teeth:

WOW! Aubergines and courgettes for eggplant and zucchini?? I never would have thought they would have a different name somewhere else!! That's interesting! I wonder what strange looks I would get if I asked for aubergines and courgettes around here!?! :rotfl:

I agree. As a vegetarian that hates pasta, it can be difficult! Whenever I go somewhere that is family style, I ask for a substitution and they always offer a pasta dish. I can't stand pasta! Also, it drives me nuts when a family member says, "I bought turkey burgers for you", well sorry but turkey is meat! People just have a hard time understanding that you do not eat meat.
