Opinions wanted on congrats "ad" -updated version post 20

AWESOME....:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Thanks :goodvibes I really did/do want honest opinions, not just to be told I did a great job.

When I first finished the first one there were a few things about it I noticed - but I thought I would ask for some opinions - knowing that if anyone else saw what I did - more people would and I needed to fix those things. The other things I saw that no one else has said anything about - I was probably just nit picking on.

So thanks everyone. :)

well if you want to nitpick I'd probably clone out the reflextions, but that's just a personal choice, they are a little distracting to me..

where were you 10 years ago when my daughter was still dancing, I could have stolen your idea..:thumbsup2

:rotfl:

I did on one of them - the lyrical at the top. But the others - they're stayin. I like em. ;)

:goodvibes

Overall, I like the 2nd one better. BUT...why did you clone out the reflecion on the one pose? It's the first thing I noticed about the new ad. I'm guessing it's because it's the only one not on an edge?

Wow! They are both wonderful!

Personally, I like the less bright pink of the gloves in the 1st one. And the Hip Hop picture definitely too gray in the 1st one, but I would tone down the pink in the 2nd a bit.

I like the 2nd one without the reflection on the top right.

Yes - because the reflection cut off and I (as well as another person) thought it looked kinda odd - just kinda hanging there.

Fabulous! And what a lovely subject you had for those shots. You should be very proud!

LOL I *did* tone them down already. You should see these gloves - they could safely bring in a ship on a dark and foggy night. Add the huge sparkling rhinestone earrings the teacher is holding for the girls and well - maybe an entire fleet of ships could safely harbor. ;)

Before I actually submit the file to the studio - I will see if I can tone them down a bit more. They do really kinda scream - "here I am" huh?.

I like that second one Jen! Great job! I didn't notice the gloves until just now and I guess they are quite pink, huh? :lmao: If you can tone them down a bit, that would be good but I think it looks AWESOME as it is too!

nice Jen i like both, but the second while not quite as "dreamlike" i think i like the color on the complexions better...probably to late but i haven't been around and didn't see it...and well, doubt you were waiting for my "approval" anyway:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

what great postcards for business promo this would make, a similar one with senior photoish pics instead of a couple of the dance ones and different wording like maybe congrats class of 09 blah blah blah...Emily, ready to pose some more?.....;) you could include some of the dance ones and stress the unique customization for their interests and maybe include some in your packages for invitations for kids to send for grad. parties( if they do that where you live, here they invite a lot of people, not just kids)

Thanks Janet - those are some great ideas. :goodvibes

Okay. Here's my opinion, for what it's worth. Jen, I have utmost respect for your work. These photos in particular are stunning. Individually, they are each strong portraits. I have to say that when they are put all together in one ad, because of their individual strength, together they seem overpowering. It's almost as if they need some white space to breathe. Have you tried removing the jazz pose on the bottom? To me, it breaks up the flow. When I first looked at the ad, the first image to catch my eye was the graceful ballet pose. The angle of your daughter's legs in the background mimic the angle of her arms (starting with her right arm at the top left and flowing town to the fingers of her left arm). This flow naturally brings my eyes down to your contact information, where my eyes are hooked again by the hip-hop pose and led back up to the top. By removing the jazz pose, you could even move your contact info to the left and center it under the congratulatory words, giving the overall effect a little more balance. Just my opinion, of course.

I understand and respect what you are saying. I really did want honest opinions - that is why I asked.

The jazz photo is my least favorite. I kinda messed up the lighting on it and to me - that shows.

The reason behind having all four of the photos in the ad is because she is on 4 dance teams and will be performing all four + the finale at the recital. I didn't want her to feel like I didn't like one of the routines or like I was excluding anything that she is really proud of. Does that make sense?

The jazz photo is the last I added - and I really wasn't sure where to put it - so it went where it currently is.

If the ad was only for ME - I wouldn't have had it in there - but the main purpose is to support and show our pride in Emily - my business stuff at the bottom is just an added benefit - and hopefully *may* help me get back a bit of the $$ I put into the cost of placing this ad to begin with.

I do know one thing for sure - that dance studio has to be making a KILLING. Just from the cost of these ads... let alone how much they get for tuition and all the other little things we are nickled and dimed to death on. Oh well - seeing her on that stage dancing - and the happiness and pride in her eyes - makes it all worth it. :)

I hear ya there! Our dance studio has a few informal arts concerts throughout the year, and at every one the owner of the studio asks for donations to defray the cost of operating the dance studio. Uhhh...isn't that why I pay tuition? I'm generally a pretty generous person, but I usually pass on that collection plate!

Makes perfect sense. Sorry, I wasn't aware of that. You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful and willing subject! Good luck with the recital. :thumbsup2

no need to apologize :goodvibes

and I agree with you again. I feel very blessed. I have two amazing girls -even though one (the oldest) is very camera shy. ;)
