We're debating whether to drive or fly from Montreal in mid to late Jan.
The obvious pro for flying is time and convenience. But it's much more expensive and I'm concerned at how DS (2) will handle flying. DS (5) has flown before but given reactions that DS2 has had to other things, I think he won't like flying and might freak out on take-off and landings.
Driving is cheaper but long for 2 kids. We're looking at 2 days: 11 hours of travelling and 5 hours of breaks per day.

What do you think? Who's done the driving method before with kids and how was it?

Thanks!

I've given my kids gravol when flying. My middle son gets sick on flights. They don't have a fear of flying, but it helps them to rest.

We are 5, so flying is expensive! If you can fly from the States it is definitely cheaper. We have done both. We take about 2 1/2 days to do it. We go the I77 route down and return on I75. We have a TV/VCR combo and the kids watch movies all the way down/back. I don't mind doing the flying or driving, it is more time consuming to drive, but if you fly and rent a car/van it gets expensive!

Have a great trip. Don't forget about the snow storms you may run into when driving in winter!

I've never driven to florida with kids but my family used to do it every summer when I was a kid. The drive really wasn't terrible and my brother and I kept ourselves entertained by playing games and I Spy. It might be worth it to invest in a portable DVD player if you don't already have one.

Make sure your comfortable driving in bad weather though. One of my coworkers drives down every January and almost always hits a snow storm. I've lived here all my life and I still hate driving in snow and ice.
