Greetings! I am normally on the Budget Board, but figured this is the place for my issue.
My 35mm film camera is just about done. I have an older digital camera that I am ready to replace as well. Should I just take the plunge and go completely digital? That way, I'd only need to buy 1 camera. I have just never been happy with the quality of the printed photos (from the digital) and I scrapbook them. Also, can you get matte finish prints from digital images? Thanks!!

YES! I dipped my toe into digital with a cheap Kodak EasyShare, before finally diving in head first this summer with the Rebel XT. Love it. Period. There's been no looking back at my 35mm!!!!

I think there are excellent digital point and shoots out there; I finally splurged for the dSLR for the faster shutter speeds for my kids' sports shots.

And yes, I believe you can get matte finish, but I'll leave the official answer to those who go that route.

Absolutely, go digital. There is very little reason to use film anymore, certainly not for better quality. Don't worry too much about megapixels (4 or more is fine for prints up to 8x10), just be sure you are using the highest quality setting available on your camera.

There are plenty of matte finish papers available for home inkjet printers.

You might even try digital scrapbooking, where you assemble the page on the computer, then print out the completed page. The flexibility of this method is far greater than cut & paste scrapbooking.
