Hey all,
I have just booked a short (4 night) trip in Sept for free dining. I booked all of our TS meals but am rethinking the one for our AK day. We currently have Boma booked for dinner. I have heard mostly great reviews of this restaurant, and I thought it would be convenient to get a bus there after finishing up at AK.
My concerns at this point are: How long will it take from AK to dinner at Boma, how long will dinner take, and will we end up missing the bus back to our resort once we finish dinner and take the bus back to AK? Our ADR is for 5:00, which is when AK closes. I know they have busses for some time after closing, but are we cutting it too close?
I should say, that even though Boma gets good reviews, it's not at all a "must do" for us. I really booked it as I said, for the convenience factor. Now with the concern regarding the bus, I wonder if we wouldn't be better off traveling to MK or EC and then haveing dinner at one of those resorts (not in the parks). Or, should we just go back to our resort (CSR), and use our TS at Maya Grill? I haven't heard much about this restaurant, is it any good? I may lean this way, as it is a short trip and my girls are very excited about the pool there. So far the only block of time they will have there is on our arrival night (a couple of hours), and the other evenings after we return from the parks and dinner elsewhere.
Sorry for rambling, but I just can't decide what to do. Any advice? Thanks!

No, you're not cutting it too close! We did this during our last trip (we were staying at AS Sports). Got the bus from AK to AK Lodge at park closing time (it was probably a 2-minute drive). Dinner took about 2 hours (including the wait time when we arrived). Don't worry about the time. After dinner, just get a bus from AK Lodge to any of the parks (including Downtown Disney, which is open very late) and grab a bus there back to your resort. Take your time and enjoy!

BTW, we loved Boma! You should really give it a try.

I would stick with Boma. We stayed at AKL and the bus ride was incredibly short maybe 5 min tops wait and ride over together. Boma is a great meal than after you can do some activities around the lodge like storytelling by the firepit, night vision goggles at the animal viewing area Arusha Rock, or even watch the little parade in the lobby. It is a great place to eat and lots to do afterwards. They have a great gift shop also. Have fun and enjoy yourself then you can take the bus to any park or DTD and then catch a bus back to your resort.:thumbsup2

just my opinion...but we too were thinking of going to AK Lodge for dinner after AK all day and changed our plans when DH reminded me that we usually look pretty sad after a day at AK with the water ride and all...we have chosen to return to our room freshen up and hit the hotel TS which happens to be BC Clambake...

that being said I have never been to Boma so not sure if it is worth it or not...

if you have park hoppers you have time to hit another park after AK for fireworks...have a CS meal for dinner and do 2 TS on another day such as a character breakfast buffet and a dinner TS.....

Thanks for asking this question! We too have ADRs at 5:00 for Boma. We are going to try to do a full, but leisurely day at the AK. If we make it, we'll eat at Boma. My memory of AK in August can be described as sweltering so I am not sure if we will be able to handle the entire day there.

We will try to go to Boma as we want to check out the AKL.

To the OP - another option is to keep the Boma reservation and take your time at dinner and enjoy the resort after. Then, take a cab back to Coronado Springs (bell services at the front entrance can help you). From Animal Kingdom Lodge, it's not that far to Coronado Springs. Maybe $10 but it sure would relieve any indigestion.

For anyone else concerned about their appearance at Boma after spending the day at Animal Kingdom, don't worry about it. The bus over there is air conditioned. The wonderful lobby is air condtioned. You can sit there and cool off for a while. Also, there are bathrooms outside the entrance to Boma where you can wash up. There will be people there who look alot worse than you think you do.

I agree with previous posters about catching a bus to another park to get back to your resort, however I would use the Downtown Disney bus only if there are no other buses running. We stayed at AKL last year and it took FOREVER to get to DTD...Epcot or MGM would be a better choice.

I figured since I was going to take a bus to a resort for dinner on AK day, id like it to be 'Ohana (its my girlfriends b/day, and I think that will be special for her

Yes I agree! You can take the bus from AKL to any park thats open and transfer to your resort. The DTD bus runs past 2 AM but it is a long trip, that I take only when I must. I usually drive to DTD for dining and shopping. Thats how much I hate that DTD bus service!

I think your idea of the Maya Grill and the pool sounds wonderful! Even though your vacation is short, don't feel you should go full-tilt for those four days. You want to remember how much fun you had - not how exhausted you were! LOL!

Transportaion? AKL is fairly close to CSR, so if you keep Boma, take that cab. If you take a bus to another park, or to DTD, you're going from point A to point C, back to point B. That'll be wasting that precious pool time at CSR.

Good advice on this thread. You might also consider stopping by the Guest Services desk in the lobby and have them call you a cab.

Always a good back-up plan in any case.

Enjoy.

Thank you for all the replies! I actually had my husband look at the menu for Boma, and he doesn't think he will like it! I am still going to keep it as my plan, but in case it doesn't pan out, does anyone have any info. on the Maya Grill? Thanks again!
