LOL, you know rusty I've never understood the "you're paying for characters" argument.
Are the characters doing the cooking? why is it exclusive? Can you not have a decent chef and Cinderalla at the same place?
Op, I've only done breakfast and all I can say is never again. 55 bucks is a lot to pay for cold, 1/2 done waffles even with the fairy godmother.
Rusty is likely trying to point out that CRT is not as expensive as it is because of the food. It's the same kind of food you could get at any mid-range restaurant in the real world. What the guest pays a premium for is the princesses and the castle. Which many of them gladly do, but the OP asked spedifically how the food is. That's a hard question at CRT, because if you're not going there for the castle and princesses, you're going to think it costs too much for the type of food they serve. Food's pretty subjective, though, there will probably some who would gladly pay $60 for the same dinner with no castle and princesses.
If the same food were served in another location, it would not cost what it does, and if it did, it would be kind of a ripoff.
Disney figured out a long time ago that in certain restaurants (character meals, ahem) the guests would shell out the big bucks without also requiring that the restaurant put a lot of effort into the food, because the food is secondary to the character experience. It's not horrible, or inedible, some of it's pretty good, but if the characters don't mean all that much to you you'll likely walk out of there saying "look what I paid for THAT."
