Received a Walmart ad today. There is a tent (12X10) on sale for $49.64. It is an Ozark Trail.
As I have posted, we have an older, cabin style tent that I cannot put up myself without becoming a total grump. Someone on these boards ( ) suggested that certain dome-style tents are much easier to set up. We are a family of 5, and was thinking of purchasing 2 smaller size domed tents (which brings up my second question, down below). This is a great price, but I also know you get what you pay for. I don't want to invest TOO heavily in new equipment, but realize I have to in order to get this family out the door and into the campground! (Plus, I am secretly hoping that Santa will bring me a pop-up!).
Second question, other than FW, how do most campgrounds or state parks feel about more than one tent per site? Is this the 'norm' now days, with most tents being the smaller, dome style?
Anyhow, any and all opinions would be appreciated. And, if I haven't said it lately, you guys are the best!!

I don't know if the Ozark Trail tents are any good or not, but that is a pretty good price. I have an old Coleman cabin tent we never use anymore because we now have a trailer.

As for multiple tents per site - usually not a problem. I have seen sites that looked like a Bedouin oasis in some of the campgrounds I have been in. Two or three tents is usually not a problem.

We have had Ozark Trail tents for 3 years. We use them quite frequently (weekend once every month, week at Ft. Wilderness every year) and they hold up quite well.

The first ones we bought we used for almost 2 years, the next ones we bought we have been using them for about 1 1/2 years and counting.

The second set we have been using is holding up better than the first set because we have discontinued using the bags they came in.

I purchased a large Rubbermaid bin for each of us that holds air mattress, linens, tents, sleeping bag, groundcloth, flashlight, raingear, mess kit, etc.

It is much easier to pack up and set up each time, and the material of the tent is not subjected to the stress of rolling and stuffing into that sack each time.

I agree about splitting up. Myself and my boys each have our own 10x10 tent.

We have a large Ozark Trail cabin tent that is a pain to put up. We used it once in VA, then waited a few years and used it at FW for 3 nights. It's still in good shape. We also purchased a smaller dome tent (10x10) at Walmart(another Ozark Trail) my son uses for boy scout camping. It must be pretty sturdy to survive "he-who-takes-care-of-nothing". I was looking at purchasing the new EZ-Up tent(by Ozark Trail) for myself and my son to use, since my husband and 3 daughters want no part of camping. I have insisted hubby go both times to put the tent up, but if this new tent at Walmart is as easy to put up as it looks, he is no longer needed. It's a dome, and smaller than I wanted, but it is only $59. My local Walmart must be expecting to sell alot of these...they had plenty of them.

Those EZ-Ups look cool!!!! Those have the poles integrated into the tent!! You just kind lay everything out, lift it up, and snap some couplings into place!!

I would love to get those, but ours are still in great shape and hubby looks at me funny everytime I wander through the camping section at Wal-Mart!!!

Okay - I'm complete lost now! I looked for the EZ-up tent, but can only find the EZ-up canopy (love these for baseball tournaments!). Can someone post a link for the tent, so I can see it, pleeeeeese??!?

I just had to comment about the tent that Carol currently has. We went to a Boy Scout "Camporee" this past weekend, and the whole Farm Park was wall-to-wall tents. And guess which one we saw the most of? The one Carol is currently using! Walmart had to have sold a million of these things in NC alone! Several troops had nothing but this tent...one for each boy! They must be pretty sturdy.

We do a lot of camping with the Boy Scouts. Dad is an assistant scoutmaster, and Mom is the cook.We just purchased the 10X12 tent at Wal-Mart. We have had Ozark Trail tents and have found them to be very sturdy. We haven't set it up yet but it looks like the quality of a Coleman with the same style of floor. We really like the bathtub floor. We have several smaller tents, but bought one of the elevated air beds and needed a larger tent. By the way, the air bed is great. I have arthritis in my hips, and sleep comfortably and get out of bed easily in the morning. Beware of the tent size, when they say sleeps 5 that is 4 across and one at the end shoulder to shoulder. Out 9X7 tent was only big enough for our queen size air mattress. Hope this helps. KQ

I know several of our scouts have the Ozark Trails.

In answer to the # of tents per site, most of the campgrounds I know say no more than 2 per site (unless it's a group site). But 2 is fine.
