We are trying to decide if we want to request Poly's second floor in The Concierge building or the first floor. Would appreciate everyone's thoughts to help us !

We were just there 2 weeks ago and had a 2nd floor room. I wanted first floor but the only room they had available didn't have a view of the castle and the room had a horrible smell.

I missed having a patio/balcony, and it would have really been nice to have a place to sit outside after the kids fell asleep. However, if you have a first floor patio, be prepared for duck droppings to be all over the patio.

Have a nice trip :)

We have stayed three times at the Poly Concierge. Twice in the current building (once under the current name Hawaii, and once under its previous name).

We had the 2nd floor all three times. Probably beccause we never made any room requests (It was before we found this forum).

We had a room close to the lounge and was very convenient.

Anyway, I didn't miss the balcony. We went in June each time and I like A/C too much to want to sit out on one.

We just returned a couple of weeks ago and had a second floor room. I am highly sensitive to smoke, in fact it gives me migraines and asked for a first floor room. I wanted to be as far away from the third floor(smoking) as possible. They did not have a first floor available and we were given a second floor room. It worked out just fine. No smoke smell at all. I was very happy with it. As for the lack of a balcony, it didn't really bother us. I asked the staff if they would be putting in balconies in the second floor when they do the Hawaii building over next year, but they said that no, the building could not structually hold balconies. When the Poly was originally built the balconies were ommited on the second floor rooms because in Walt's design he wanted accuracy and in Hawaii they think it's bad luck for a balcony to be on a second floor room. This is what a cast member told us. He said that Disney realized their mistake, as everyone WANTED balconies, so the later buildings were built with them. All three CMS who happened to be at the concierge desks at the time nodded and said that it is a nightmare for them because a lot of people don't want the second floor and they were hoping that when Hawaii was done over they would put them it. WOW, I guess I wrote more than you wanted to know!! LOL!! Bascially we had no problems with the second floor. My kids and hubby did go up to the third floor and said that the smoke smell was terrible in the hallway, just for info.

Have a Wonderful Trip!!!

In july we had requested the 3rd floor and then the 1st floor ( we are non- smokers too but thought we would try it). BUT we got the dreaded 2nd floor. We were garden view and got a room directly in the middle. It was fabulous and we really did not miss the balcony! We just pulled our table and chairs over to the window opened up the shades and felt like we where out there. Although still in air conditioning and no bugs! I guess if your going when the weather is great it might really be missed but to check the weather we could open our "door" and have it half open for a while. but in july a while really is too long. We really worried about this to before going and when we got it I was not happy, but went in and when I saw our great location and view I was pleased! If its between seeing the castle or looking at the sand beach and foliage or palm tree I would take the 2nd floor quickly! As the garden view we had a view of the quiet pool, and the tree's and foliage just off to our right obstructing the pool building a little (good)! It was probably as good as the garden view concerige gets for a view so we were very happy to snag it!

Please, don't worry about. Go look in the room and then decide, if you really don't like it, ask to be moved when something opens up, then would of done this for us, but I changed our mind.

Do you remember your room number ? Sounds like it was great ! Thanks to all of you for all the wonderful information ! This site is awesome, and so are all the users !

We stayed in the Poly concierge on the second floor in August and LOVED it. We did not miss the balcony at all and it was great to be on the same floor as the lounge. I think you will be fine. Also, I am very, very allergic to smoke and I did not have any problem being only one floor away from the smoking level.

We prefer the second floor for a GV room. If I were doing LV I would want 1st floor to be able to walk out to the beach, but since it's not guaranteed I'll stick with GV. The first year we have a ground floor GV and I couldn't believe what a better view you have on the second level. You are able to see more of the lush landscape, plus you're on the same level as the lounge:D

We were in 2529 (Garden View) last Dec and didn't miss a balcony at all. We loved the convenience to the lounge as we made a lot of trips there! And the second floor tends to be quiet as everyone requests the first and third floors!
