We'll be staying at WL soon and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced their QS location Roaring Forks. We have never eaten there and are wondering what to expect.

What is the atmosphere like? How's the food? How does it compare to Captain Cook's at the Poly? Is it as busy as Everything POP?

I looked at the menu at Allearsnet but it is incomplete. It doesn't list the hot breakfast items, for instance. The selection also seems limited in terms of variety. Are the sandwiches made to order or grab and go? The turkey & brie sandwich sounds yummy. Is there anything here we simply must try?

In many reviews, people commented that the layout was confusing. How is it set up? I also read something about them doing cookie decorating here. Anyone know about this?

Just trying to figure out whether to look for other alternatives for QS or if this location will work for us. Any feedback would be appreciated!

First, Roaring Forks does get plenty busy at Breakfast, I don't know about other times of day as we don't usually eat there for lunch or dinner. As for the layout, once you go in the main entrance, you turn left to go into the sales area to get your food. To the right will be the seating area. If you can find some photos online it will help you see how it is set up. The way things are supposed to work is you will get in line to the right once you enter the food service area. There are trays stacked there. You will first pass the hot food area, they sell the same type of hot food as most of the other food courts, ie platters with scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit. You can also get pancake platters or hot breakfast sandwiches . This area will sell individual pizzas and burgers etc at lunch and dinner. From there you will pass a cooler with milk choices, juice, bottled water, containers of fruit, yogurt - premade cold sandwiches and such at lunch and dinner. Then you'll pass a case of baked goods ( breakfast will have bagels, assorted pasteries, bread to toast, etc. Hot oatmeal (and grits I think) are available.
Then there is an area to buy freshly made sandwiches and salads for lunch and dinner. Along the back wall are beverage dispensers, etc.
then coming around to the left hand wall will be cases with ice cream and then you come to the station where the registers are. There are freestanding cases in the middle of floor with bagged chipsand fresh fruit.
I am sure I'm forgetting some things as I'm listing this all from my bad memory! I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong or forgetting anything.
My DH loves the turkey and brie sandwich you mentioned, and I love the salad that has chicken and apple in it. I think the breakfast platters are good too. The eating area is decorated with fly fishing decor and is wood paneled and cozy. There is a wall in the room that has toasters, a microwave, packaged condiments, plastic silverware, napkins, etc.
We like eating at Roaring Forks!

Thanks so much for your description and recommendation! I found it very helpful. Glad to hear that the turkey & brie is tasty. Is it premade or fresh to order?

Any other reviews would be greatly appreciated!

I like Roaring Forks a lot better than Captain Cook's (except for the Dole Whips @ Captain Cook's).

Perdido said it all re: layout and such. I really love to eat there even when we aren't staying at WL. I love the turkey sandwich with the fancy cheddar cheese...forgot the name. It's good. All sandwiches are huge!!! So beware. ;) I also like to get a soup and some crackers with peanut butter. And it is nice to eat out on the patio.

I think it's more that I have just never been impressed with the offerings or the ordering system at Captain Cook's. I have yet to have anything to eat there that I thought was very good (tried some of the more "upscale" sounding things last trip -the fancy grilled cheese for example).

Roaring Forks we mostly used for breakfast and burgers and we've always thought everything was good there.

I appreciate the comments. I\m not really a burger person. I like to try different things on vacation. I'm happy to hear that the turkey and brie is good. I'll definitely have to try it but maybe we'll share since it's so big.

Vicki, sorry to hear you didn't like CC's. We had a great meal there and quite liked the self-ordering system. I liked being able to see exactly what was in each item. I know I'm OT, but we had the noodles and pork sandwich. I really loved the Polynesian chips.

We love it! We love the sandwiches and burgers and it's the only place we'll eat pizza (it's actually a flat bread) The desserts are also really good and fresh. The staff has always been very friendly.

Yes, the seating area is small, but we've never had a problem finding a seat.

As mentioned before, RF is really quite easy to navigate. All of the stations are very well labeled. It is on the smaller side, and can get quite crowded, but we've never had any unbearable waits.

I personally think that the food at RF is terrific. There's a lot to choose from and everything is of great quality. All of the sandwiches are delicious and very, very big! They have a couple of soups or chili to choose from. I also really enjoy their flatbread pizzas. I know that there's not a lot that can be done to screw up a flatbread pizza, but they're perfectly done at RF - not at all greasy, crispy and delicious. I haven't tried many of their breakfast offerings, but the make-your-own oatmeal is really good.

When we've stayed at WL in the past we've eaten at Roaring Forks at least a few times per trip. If it's nice outside, I recommend taking your meal out to the patio and eating while overlooking the gorgeous pool and landscaping. Have a great trip!

I assume their are tables outside? That's great news! I think I would like eating out there very much.

Also, I'm glad to hear that the pizza is of the flatbread variety. That makes it sound way more appealing.

I really liked this place. They have an awesome roasted veggie sandwich, and their salads are quite good as well. I second the suggestion of eating on the patio across the way if weather permits (there is plenty of seating). My mother even liked it and to say she is selective is putting the case mildly. ;)

Mmmm...that does sound good. I like roasted veggies.

Do you get a good view of the pool outside?

We stayed at WL in August so if you click on my thread there are a ton of pics from RF. We LOVE the hot pecan cinnamon buns there, out of this world wondeful! Not too thrilled with the rest of the breakfast items, very limited. The cup full of berries was good though. The one thing I didnt like about the place was it is teeny tiny small and so loud you could not hear yourself think

Capt Cooks is awesome! Much larger and a lot more variety....would rather eat there

Thanks, Nicki, for leading me to your thread! I thought both posts on RF were very helpful. I appreciated the photos of the breakfast menu, as I wasn't quite sure what they offered. The pecan cinnamon bun does look incredible. I think I will definitely be sitting outside so long as the weather is nice.

We will likely eat at both RF and CC's.

We stayed at WL our last 2 trips. We just got back from our 1st stay at the Poly. Compared to WL, the one thing we did not like at the Poly was Captiain Cooks. Roarin Forks was SO much better for breakfast. We love the chocolate crossants at Roaring Forks. We had a week at the Poly and in a week of breakfast at Captain Cooks (except one day we went to Tusker House) we didn't find anything we considered worth eating after a couple of bites.
(I was all excited about Tonga toast before out trip, only to discover I didn't like it. It was so dry.) As far as other meals, we ate a quick dinner at Captain Cooks, and did think they had some pretty good options, but the Roarin Forks makes a great burger and DH really missed that Turkey and Brie sandwich. We found Caption Cooks to be more crowded, slower, and their ordering system to be a pain as opposed to WL. We prefer RF. RF does have cookie decorating in the afternoon. We happened across it the one day DD (then 2 yrs 10 months) was in a bad mood, and the wonderful lady running it saw we were having issues with her and got up and came and got her and turned my grumpy child, into a completely happy kid. Love the cookie lady!!!

Glad to hear that the turkey & brie is made fresh. Now it's even more appealing!

So, the cookie decorating does happen at RF. Any idea about when? Or is it just random?

We really enjoyed Roaring Forks when we stayed at WL in October!! The chicken nuggets were great and my kids love the fries. I loved the corn chowder as well! Best I've had in awhile! It's a bit cramped when filing up mugs though!! Mara is much laid out much better as far as space goes.
