Opinions on Problem at Little Ones EMH

Folks, you were in WDW with your kids. In the grand scheme of things, is this really THAT big of a deal?

ESPECIALLY since they still got to ride with Stitch...that's very special in and of itself, no matter which elephant he was riding with.

I won't even try to assume why the CM did this. IMHO, there is never an excuse to boo another person. Shame on the adults who teach this as a proper behavior to their children.

Perhaps the "older lady" was developmentally disabled? I know how unfair it looked when you only look at it from a physical age standpoint, but I know people three times my age who have a cognative level equal to my 5 year old. Perhaps the CM was making magic for someone like this?

If I "was" ;) a character , I would have been a bit frustrated that some other person had taken my thunder by picking the person for me. When I saw it was an older women i would have quietly asked the person to allow me to ride with the kids first then a quick ride with the women. Unfortunatly I would have probably gotten fired for doing that though.

regardless of what the lady's story may be, that is messed up and shouldn't have happened.

So true.

Parents booing and hissing are such a rotten example to their children. It's no wonder kids think they are entitled to everything. Their parents do too.

As Lindsay said, "you were in WDW with your kids...what's the big deal?"

OT! Hey Lindsay! I got a tag from your thread yesterday! :)

I don't like playing the "what if" game. What if she was dying of cancer, you ask? Well, what if she was just a cornflake who wanted to ruin a childs day by taking something they desired away from them by cooking up some cancer story? ......Sorry if this sounds harsh but why is it we always automatically assume someone is dying and that's why they got their way? :confused3

The only reason I bothered to speculate is, the OP was upset by the situation, still has a 'sour taste' over it, and sometimes it helps to have other people offer possible reasons that might help that sour taste go away. :)

In the end, it doesn't really matter why it happened. It happened. But booing another human being when you don't know WHAT their story is is uncalled for under any circumstances, in my opinion. There are better ways to make your unhappiness known and even more importantly, better ways to make sure it doesn't happen again if it was something the CM did that was really out of line.

When the CM unhooked the chain holding back the next group of riders from the circular loading platform for Dumbo, four kids ran up to Stich as fast as they could and the first two to get to him grabbed Stich's hands, jumping up and down and yelling, "Could you ride with me?".

What should Stich and his entourage do?
You finish the story.

......We were there on 9/30 as well. I saw that Stitch stayed on the ride the whole time. Did you try again to have your DD ride with him or ask if she could wait and ride a loop with him? My DD6 was happy to play a game with Snow White and Dopey and ride Snow White (although not in the same car) as well as the Carrousel with Goofy (and still a few horses away from his. She was just happy to be there and having fun with the characters, whether she got special attention or not. :wizard:

Seems to me the "fairest" approach to who gets to ride with a character is to select a child before the character even appears. All a CM would have to do is approach a family with a child, ask if the child would like to meet STICH and ride the first ride with him, then STICH emerges, takes the child by the hand, and marches up to the ride.

Magic for the one kid, without having opened the "competition" can of worms for any other kids.

I'll try this again, it didn't make a difference which kid Stitch picked. That's the luck of the draw. The issue I had was that an adult was chosen over any of the kids seeing that this was during The Little Ones EMH. I thank everyone for their opinions, but please keep the facts straight. My issue was with an adult being chosen, not that my DD wasn't. Also as to the booing, this was done by the people waiting in line which the woman was taken out of, not myself, or any other of the parents whose kids were with Stitch. My opinion was that the woman was a friend or relative of the CM.

Strmtrooper96,

Been PMing you did you get the doll that we were supposed to trade over a month ago?? Still waiting for the strawberry shortcakes from you?? What gives???????

We found the whole thing a competition of who could be the pushiest parent. The kids getting to interact with the characters were the one's "lucky" enough to have a mom who would shove them past the other kids that were there first.

maybe the lady was developmentally disabled as pointed out by others. My DS is 16 but is at the developmental age of an 18 month old. He would love to ride with a character. Anyway I do agree it was handled poorly. I feel bad for your little one. They should have let the "lady" ride with Stitch the next ride.

To the OP:

Did this incident with Stitch happen on 9/27? Because I was the other poster who also resported the same thing happening during the Little One EMH on 9/27.

The bottom line is it was little one EMH. A "child" should have been chosen. My 8yo wanted to ride with Stitch and I told him he was too old then had to explain to him why a 50ish year old woman was in the car with Stitch.

It was mass chaos the day we went, parents pushing and shoving their kids to the characters. Some kids were even too little to have a clue what was going on. It was sad.

I was pretty put off with the adult riding with Stitch also. I could see if no children wanted to, but many did and were clearly disappointed. A real shame.

I agree though shame on the adults for booing and hissing but shame on that woman as well. :sad2:

Lets keep in mind that this was little ones EMH, an hour geared towards toddlers. I don't blame parents for being upset that an older woman got to ride with Stitch, although booing wasn't the best way to handle the situation. I don't blame the OP for being upset by the fact that this woman was chosen over the little ones who were there. Personally I think any adult who wanted to ride with a character during little ones EMH should have been told by the CM that they were sorry but this hour is geared towards young children and due to that fact they had to pick a young child.

We can speculate all day about the older woman, was she dying? Was she mentally disabled and at the mental capacity of a 3 yr old? Or was she just some nice old lady who asked if she could ride with Stitch? Whatever the reason, Little Ones EMH wasn't the time or place to grant her wish.

It's a LITTLE ones magic hours meaning people probably get their kids ready and tell them this is THEIR time, only for the little ones, so it's a big disappointment for the children to see an adult being picked instead.

The booing was stupid,IMO. Not going to accomplish anything. Maybe the older lady riding had a condition (though I gotta wonder how many 60 year old's "last wish" is to ride Dumbo with Stitch) but in that case couldnt they have arranged it for any other time in the day or BEFORE the little ones EMH began?
