I don't know what they are charging you, but it is a wonderful resort. The drive to DL is a quick 20 minutes on the toll road. There are great restaurants and shopping areas nearby and the resort itself is very relaxing. I am an owner there and we love it. The units are large and my favorite feature is the master shower with 2 showerheads!!
Very nice resort, but the drive to DL took us considerably longer than that. Driving times vary tremendously depending on how bad the traffic is, of course.
I stayed at Marriott's Newport Coast Villas about a year ago on an Interval International exchange, and liked it very much. (I didn't use my Disney Vacation Club points to trade; I never trade those.) The beach is across the street and not really close to the resort, but you can borrow a free parking pass if you drive there. The pools at the resort are very nice. The resort is fairly new, and is Marriott-built and managed (not all timeshares with "Marriott" in their name were actually built by Marriott), so the quality is first-rate and there are many planned activities. The location is excellent and was, in fact, going to be used by Disney to build a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) resort, but sales at the other beach DVC resorts were slower than expected, so Disney sold the land to Marriott. It seems that some of the architectural elements of original DVC plan were kept (it's supposed to be a Mediterranean village, I believe), but other than that, it has no connection to the original DVC concept. (So, no hidden Mickeys!)
There is a Trader Joe's very close by; very convenient for stocking your kitchen. I also like Wholesome Choice in Irvine, although that's considerably further away.
Overall, great resort! I have another Interval International trade there for this December. (That's off-season in Southern California, but I bet it'll be way warmer than here in Michigan!)
